Rainforest Cafe or Storytellers

I vote for the meal at Storytellers also, but take the kids to Rainforest for an appetizer at the bar on another day as a break during a crowded afternoon - the food isn't fabulous but the appetizers are pretty good and the place is just fun to experience with children. It has a great big WOW factor

Our family loves RFC but ate at the DTD one many moons ago and were disappointed in the food and service in comparison to other RFCs we have eaten at. (Our all time favorite one is in Arizona) We did the character breakfast at Storytellers and the buffet was fine but based on reviews I am going to order off menu next time. Also I have heard from more than one person that RFC ended up being their most expensive meal of the trip and not their best dining experience.

I vote Storytellers Love the ambiance and the light fixtures are amazing.

Have been waiting for my DS to be old enough to appreciate RFC but when I look at the menu the main courses don't really appeal. Anybody tried/liked the desserts lately? Really just want to experience the ambiance and put a toe in further than the gift shop without spending an arm and a leg.

We usually go to Storytellers for dinner. The food is good and its very comfortable and relaxing. RFC is more "fun" with much more going on. Just kinda depends on what kind of experience you're looking for, I guess. :)

Thanks so much for all of your opinions!! I will take them all into consideration. Not sure which one we will go to yet though...As always, you have given me alot to think about! Much appreciated!

Although I'm not the OP, I'm glad I ran into this thread.

We want to try something new for our May 2011 trip. (We've eaten dinner at Ariel's Grotto twice, lunch at Blue Bayou twice, Minnie's Breakfast once, and several times at Carnation Cafe.) After reading this thread I think we'll just try RFC here at home and try something else during our trip. Now to convince the family that Storyteller's should be it ;)

We really thought RFC was a terrible waste of money when we tried it. Admittedly, it was several years ago, but we will not go back.

We have always had good meals at Storytellers. We tried Jazz Kitchen the last time we were there and we would go back in a second. It was quite good. Also, if your boys are sports fans, ESPN might be fun for them.

Is there a reason why Storytellers and RFC are your only options? So many choices in DTD..Storytellers is OK..not a huge buffet fan..I'd rather just have nachos at WWS for a fraction of the cost. RFC ok..but not a huge fan. However, they do have a decent and not expensive breakfast that is not crowded. I enjoyed the Mexican food place in DTD and La Brea is good too. The take out window at Jazz Kitchen is also good.

Keep in mind that RFC is a chain, so the experience you will get at DTD is the same experience that you will get at your "local" RFC (which is a good thing if you know your kids alreadly love the menu and are normally horrifically picky eaters).

I've only had breakfast once at Storyteller's (I ordered off the menu), and the food was delicious. It still is my second-favorite meal that I've had at DL.

My favorite is the meal I had 7 years ago at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen. The atmosphere was great, the food was great, and the jazz band was great. I had been to New Orleans 2 3/4 years prior to eating at Ralph's and it really reminded me of the restaurants that I ate at while I was there (minus the Hard Rock Cafe). Plus, they flambéed the bananas foster tableside (nothing quite like seeing flames shoot up a foot or so into the air to complete the meal).

We were really trying to plan and budget and thought that we would "go out" for a couple sit down meals. As it stands though - since I created the thread - our budget has gotten a little more tight! We thought RF since it looks soooo neat and I thought ST because my DH loves buffets BUT I think we have now decided on only 2 sit down meals and are leaning towards Big Thunder Ranch and Bubba Gumps - my DH is from the east coast and loves sea food!! Thanks so much for all of your input! It really does make a difference when planning a trip - especially on a budget!!!

I ate at BTR last May and have nothing but good things to say about it. The food is tasty and truly all-you-can-eat. My group was seated during a quiet time (no entertainment going on), so the restaurant was fairly empty and the service was great until it came time to get the check, but that's probably because the entertainment had started up and a lot of people were coming in at that time. My uncle's one complaint was that they don't serve corn-on-the-cob (so he actually left BTR, got corn-on-the-cob from somewhere else, and came back and ate it at our table).

Thanks Americanitgirl! Actually, I read on the menu that they offer corn on the cob during the dinner service, so perhaps the next time you go you could go for dinner!!!
