I'm so disappointed. We will be in LA starting Thursday. The weather looks perfect until Sunday, of course this is when we head to the Grand Californian for our Disney fix for 5 days. The weather looks like rain every day we will be there!! :furious::worried::(:scared1::mad:

Why me?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

We only get to Disney land every 5 years or so, so each trip feels like in needs to be perfect..........

Sigh, maybe the rain will keep the locals away? I need a bright side to look at.....

I'm in the same boat. We arrive Tuesday. The weather has been SO nice! Totally bummed. I am not a fan of DL in the rain, but we will make the best of it.

Look at things on the positive side...you'll still be in Disneyland! With some rain, it might mean the crowds will be lower. Also, weather is variable, right up until that day, so it might still change. I looked at Weather.com and it does show 50%-60% chance of rain, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be continuously raining all day. Mostly likely, there will be periods of rain, followed by dry periods. I would recommend getting a weather app with radar for your phone so that you can see when a shower is coming and when it should be dry.

Looks like I'll be packing ponchos for next week.

Don't be surprised if that rain forecast goes away, or if there is rain, it will be minimal.

I'm checking Accuweather and see rain for Monday and Tuesday, then a few showers Wednesday and sun by Thursday. By Saturday it's back up to 80.

I love rain and because we get so little of it around here, they always make a huge build-up before (storm watch graphics on the news and all that hoopla) and then it sprinkles for an hour over night and that's it for another couple months. I wouldn't be too worried about it at this point. If it does rain, it rarely lasts more than a day or two.

We arrive in DL on Sunday, also. Our 1st few days will be in San Diego, with gradually declining weather. And then, as you said, Rain! Rain! Rain! when we get to DL. We'll be in the parks 4 1/2 days, starting on Monday morning.

This will be our grand-kid's 1st ever trip to DL, and the 1st Christmas trip for the rest of us. This is certainly not at all how I envisioned this trip to be. We were ready for some sunshine and warmth amidst all of the holiday decorations.

What outdoor events & attractions will be canceled/postponed/stopped if it's raining?

Another thought, we're renting a power scooter for the 1st time ever. Is it going to be OK to drive it thru the rain?

Local news in LA is calling for the rain to start Sunday night into Monday. Hopefully the worst of it will be overnight then. I'm just keeping an eye on the weather since it will likely change quite a bit before next week. I might also get caught by the rain; my dad's visiting for Thanksgiving, and we're planning on going next Tuesday, which also has rain forecast. Probably best to invest in ponchos just to be safe...

First, California DEFINITELY needs the rain. They are in a severe drought. If the drought does not end eventually there will not be a Disneyland that is able to operate. Putting things in perspective, that is more important than someone's trip being disrupted.

Second, December is among the rainiest months in Anaheim. See http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1711098.

Third, if I had a trip rained out I would be disappointed too. I would hope I would be philosophical that I chose to go during a month when rain is more likely. So I took my chances and it did not work out.

Finally, everyone has a different definition of "perfect". For those whose definition of perfect revolves around perfect weather, then choosing a month with the least chance of rain may be the best approach. Everyone would define this differently but on average May, June and October may be the best tradeoff in hot temperatures (also an issue for many) and chance of rain.

I really hope your trip goes as well as possible and all the rain (and hopefully lots of it) happens at night when the parks are closed!

Good luck!

Very well said!

And now I know why California is experiencing such a drought--because everyone in the world prays it won't be raining when they visit. ;)

As others have said, rain in SoCal is usually spotty. It probably won't drizzle all day like in other parts of the country.

We've done many rainy days at Disneyland. Actually, it's a blast! We just bring disposable ponchos for everyone and keep on hitting the rides. Some people decided to pack it in leave, which made the lines shorter. If it's still raining by evening, it really seems to clear out. We were there on the Sunday before Thanksgiving a few years ago. By around 9:00 p.m., we were being allowed to stay on the Matterhorn and Splash because the lines were almost non-existent. Splash was fun because we couldn't get any wetter than we already were!

Just remember to bring extra shoes. We wore the same ones all day because they were already wet. But it was nice to have dry ones for the next day, especially since we were flying home in the afternoon. Squishy shoes on a plane is no fun!

Right now, the forecast really only shows rain Monday and Tuesday. The temps looks great though! And yes, rain does often keep locals at home.

Bring a rain coat or poncho. Extra shoes/socks. We've been many times in the rain and still had a blast.

Personally, I'd take rain over hot weather.

A little rain shouldn't ruin your vacation. We've gone through storms at DL and had a great time--even when it was so windy, it was raining sideways. Literally no lines for any of the rides, although BTMRR kinda hurts from stinging rain...

We've had rain on many vacations from DL, Hawaii, Alaska, Univeral Orlando, Rome, Venice and on and on, but it didn't ruin our vacations. Just part of life on Earth.

Often our squishy shoes turn to smelly shoes which makes us have to dump the shoes and hunt for new ones :scared1: Smelly shoes on planes is definitely no fun. If you know it can rain, get waterproof shoes like hiking shoes or something.

I know how you feel. I am sooooo bummed. We check in on Sunday. We will be in the parks starting Monday for 3 days and 1 day at SeaWorld. It says rain during every park day. We check out on Friday. It's my littlest daughters first trip (my other kids have been before BUT they were very young) to Disneyland and we only go every few years also:sad1:
Here's hoping it changes and doesn't rain:worship:.

Don't worry! Come prepared with some ponchos and extra shoes and you'll have a fabulous, maybe slightly moist time :thumbsup2. Our first trip, it was forecasted to rain for a few days. Being from the Wet Coast, we thought nothing of it, and just made sure to bring rain jackets and extra shoes. But not only did it rain... it torrentially downpoured! (think I just made up some words there...). It was crazy windy and rainy, rain coming in sideways from all directions. Yes, it cleared out the parks nicely and we spent some time enjoying no lines but eventually, you can only stay soaking wet for so long and be comfortable. Honestly though, we didn't let it ruin our trip at all! It's 100% all in the attitude and if it rains, it rains (it likely won't be anything like when we were there so don't worry :goodvibes). Do some shopping, hit some indoor rides (Indy, HM, POTC, Space, etc) and have a great time enjoying the low crowds. Then when you've had enough, pick up some hot chocolates on your way out, get into your warm pjs back at the hotel and talk all about your day together.

Thanks Hydroguy, I certainly didn't mean to make light of California's drought problem. I know you all can use the rain. Being from Oregon I was just hoping to dry out a little.
I am definitely trying to look on the bright side, and I know we are going to have a great time no matter the weather. I was just looking for some positive words to help me look at the bright side!
I also knew this was the perfect place to do that, since this has always been such a positive place.
I can't wait to get there and use all your good advice to make this trip a memorable one. Thanks for all the time you have spent trying to help everyone on these boards!

California's "storms" are drizzle for an hour. I've been there when a light mist was falling and everyone screamed and ran for cover and exits like the mist was acid or something. Yall should try Disney World. Heavy thunderstorms every afternoon all summer long and everyone just carries on and has a great time. I can't imagine what yall would do in Southern California if you ever got a real rain storm. Rain so heavy you are drenched from head to toe the second you step out into it and can't see more than a a few feet ahead of you. I've never seen Rain in California; only drizzle. You don't even get wet in it if you stand outside for the entire hour. At least when I was there.

Based on the reaction from the locals, that drizzle was as "rainy" as it gets so I wouldn't even bring an umbrella especially if you are from a place that gets real rain. Correct me if it ever really rains hard in Southern California. I doubt you've even seen anything in Disneyland approaching what is considered a regular afternoon rainshower in Florida.
