Rain!!!!!!!!!

I might be able to talk my family into a staying the parks for normal California rain, but today's stuff is heavy. Man, that dopler in SoCal looks brutal. I'm guessing this is one of those days when the people who make long trips hit the parks because they paid a ton, and the locals decide to stay home. Still, I feel your pain if your there. Probably all sorts of stuff cancelled and closed. Try to enjoy those short lines. :thumbsup2

It's a warm sunny early summer day here but I would STILL rather be getting wet at Disneyland. I've checked out the HoJo feed a couple of times, was looking OK at one stage, light rain, but Screamin' was still running. Couldn't see it going the more recent time I looked, when it was definitely looking gloomier.

Wanted to take some pictures at the park today, but opted to stay in today. Couldn't use the camera outside anyway. I don't mind going to the parks in the rain (done this at WDW many times), but today's rain came with lots of water flooding the roads. It has been steady all day long. There were several cars stranded about Anaheim. I saw a couple of cars trying to get through that water and stall out. I did have a good laugh about people saying how cold and rainy it is today.:rotfl2: Being from the east coast, this is nothing for us. As long as it is not snow. Plus, this gives me a chance to do some posting on the DIS.

WDW's rain is hardly ever cold though. It's usually hot and everyone just throws a poncho over their summer clothes and takes it off when the rain stops. None of this talk about hot drinks and blankets and staying warm in the rain there. Seems like the words "rain" and "cold" are synomomous in the minds of Californians. Maybe that's why you are so adverse to going out in it. Do yall EVER any warm summer rain? I feel sorry for you if you don't because warm rain is so nice to run through and cools you off nicely.

It's cold, windy and rainy. I doubt rain in Florida is like this. It was a tough day to be in the parks. Not looking forward to tomorrow if it's going to be the same way

I actually prefer a colder rain. When it's hot and rainy, I hate having to put a rain coat or poncho on in the heat...yuck.

Rainy days are the best as long as you don't have little kids. I always loved how empty it is. I honestly wish I could have been there today instead of working. The rain was bad for southern California, but not bad compared to most of the rest of the nation. It's an entirely different world when it's wet, empty, and cold. There's so much magic to be found.

Tell us how it went later! I'll be there tomorrow :)

It was great! We rode 8 rides practically walking on plus had lunch before noon. Lunch was a challenge since we were in nos and the covered outside seating leaks. Kids found a dry bench and ate their soup /bread bowls. Since we got a lot done in the morning we opted to see big hero 6 in dtd after our afternoon break. It was a great choice - i never would have "wasted" time seeing a movie here if not for the rain.
We never go to the movies at home as most of our entertainment money goes into DL so it was a great treat for the kids.
today will be raining again but looks like less than yesterday so we plan on being in the parks all day with a rest in the afternoon.

Hello WDW in June! We did this on our first trip and vowed to never return to FL in anything but the winter. That rain when it's 90 degrees - yuck. At least in SoCal, when it rains it's cold.

Exactly. I went to WDW as a kid/teen in the Summertime. As an adult, we've only gone in January and February. We've had a little rain but it was cooler out, similar to CA, so it was nice. Though the crowds didn't think out like at Disneyland.

Here's a pic I saw online yesterday of Main Street. I've experienced a trip like that once, and the ducks were swimming down Main Street! LOL!

I agree that it would have been great if I didn't have a baby. We walked on a few major attractions (big thunder, Indy, splash) while baby took a nap. Waiting for her to nap again so we can take turns on screaming and rsr

Earlier today between 10 am and 2pm it was pretty decent. Walked on Star Tours back to back. Space Mountain had a wait of 20 minutes which actually was about 10. Luckily I was able to walk around the DLR hotels and take some good pictures. Stopped to eat at the Jazz Kitchen as it started to rain. It was raining pretty steady by 3. The day was pretty productive.:yay:

My biggest complaint was definitely the wet shoes! I really wish I'd had waterproof boots on today. I love the rain and being a CA native its a fun rare treat so we had fun today...maybe too much fun?! I was solo with the kids and had to constantly wrestle my 4 yr old to keep on his jacket because it was pouring and at some point he would realize he was soaked and complain. My 2 yr old refused to wear a jacket or a poncho or a hood and figured out immediately that she could water skate and slid all over the park!

It was tough with the little kids to get food since most of the carts were closed and it's pretty hard to carry food and keep track of the kids at counter service. DS was sad that Alice closed due to weather. Also seemed like very few fast pass photographers around.

On a positive note Toontown was deserted so we immediately got in to see Minnie and a very short line for Mickey. Same with Pixie Hollow. I think we waited about an hour on Monday and just walked right up today.

I watched the weather before our Sunday arrival and when the rain event looked certain, went to our local sporting goods store and picked up the Frogg Toggs suits - they were $19.95 for the jacket/pants combo. We wore them along with waterproof shoes, ball caps and layerable clothes, and we came back to the room, last night and tonight, warm and dry. Not a bit of rain soaked through into our clothing and we rode Splash Mountain, Matterhorn, BTMRR and Astro Orbiter when it was really raining!

This was the best planning we've ever done for a Disneyland trip. :)

After a soaked DLR trip, we bought rain suits kind of like that too. We brought them to WDW with us but it ended up being way too hot to wear them in the rain (even in January.)

Perhaps we should be more disappointed than excited but even with the rain, my son and I can't wait to arrive on Sunday. Being from Vancouver, BC, we are fine with the rain especially when the temperature won't be cold. But I appreciate "cold" is relative. Our Disneyland trips have always been warm and sunny so it's a chance to experience Disneyland in less-than-ideal conditions plus my son has never been during the Christmas season nor have I as an adult. Just need to bring ponchos, extra shoes, umbrellas, etc.

I grew up in Northern California & lived for 6 years in Southern California. Now live in Arizona. A relative lived in Portland, OR for 13-14 years. The rain IS different in all 4 of those locations, and it affects one's perspective/point of view.

When I was living in Southern California, the local weather forecasters & news reporters would get very excited over even a little bit of rain. Why? Because especially in LA, after so many weeks without rain, people seemed to totally forget how to drive in the rain. This would result in lots of car wrecks & fender benders on the freeways. In other words, plenty of interesting video to broadcast from their traffic helicopters. :lmao:

When I lived in Northern California (SF Bay Area) for many years, folks there tended to take the rain in stride, unless the forecast was for several days of really hard rain. Days and days on end of heavy rainfall usually resulted in mudslides. El Nino winters were rough on people who lived on the side of a hill.

A relative lived in Oregon for a long time. She used to say that it rained every day there, but the rain was a lot of drizzle. She described it as "spitting rain."

I have also lived in Arizona for several years now. People (myself included) are funny here about rain & what is considered "cold" weather. "Cold" = anything below 75 degrees. Seriously. Once it hits 69 degrees F, we break out the winter parkas. I, myself, have been known to wear a heavy jacket with flip flops. :rotfl: I know, what the heck, right?

When it rains in AZ, we all cheer. It's considered a wonderful thing. Summer rain in AZ = heavy downpours. 1" of rain an hour would be a normal summer rainfall. But the rain is sporadic. Two blocks away, it could be a gully washer, but at your house it's bone dry. Oh...and Arizonans, like people from LA, forget how to drive in the rain all the time.

We also don't really have storm drains here. It all goes into washes, which eventually drain into rivers which most of the year, are dry or just a trickle. So when it rains a LOT, it's a freak of nature and we all look at the raging river with the brown water.

People from AZ also never have an umbrella with them. We will tend to just brave the elements and dash out to the car, but we get totally soaked in the process because the raindrops are so huge & enormous! Seriously, I have been soaked to the bone picking up my kids from school because I was an idiot and didn't bring an umbrella.

I look at the southern CA rain kind of like this...a wet day at Disneyland is far better than a nice day at work!
