Rain?

We stick to the indoor rides until the rain stops--Star Tours, Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, etc. The outdoor rides aren't so fun during that time with the rain in your face--even on a slow ride like Autotopia the rain is stinging! I carry a compact umbrella as I walk from building to building (I'm from Washington state, so carrying an umbrella to me seems quite normal.)

You can buy ponchos at most retail locations on Main Street, as well as other locations around the park.

Speaking from personal experience I love DL in the rain. A lot of the locals and AP's will go home because of the rain, so there are fewer people in the parks. Take advantage of things you might not have done; check out the Animation Building in DCA, take in a show, or go on a ride you might not have gone on, then ride it again. :)

Hope you have a fantastic trip!

Poncho vs. umbrella? Discuss.

Ponchos are nice because you don't have to hold onto anything, but they're so stifling hot. Any tips on how to minimize the discomfort?

Umbrellas aren't as effective at keeping the water off, but keep me more comfortable.

We didn't enjoy it last Friday, but then again we had two little ones and an older woman in a wheelchair. We spent a lot of time in the Animation Building and caught Aladdin at the last minute. I ended up walking back to the room w/ only my hoodie and got very wet and cold (jeans were wet about 8" from the ground). I would recommend a waterproof jacket and boots you can tuck your pants legs into, as well as an umbrella and cap. My sleeves still got wet in the poncho. Lines were short, as there was a mass exodus when the rain started coming down.

Disneyland in the rain is awesome. Of course, I was the guy who saw the rain last week and had to go ride Big Thunder Mountain. If you approach the rain at Disneyland as a chance to enjoy the rides with a lower crowd level and in a way that doesn't happen everyday, you will have a blast. If you approach it as a big bummer because you are getting wet, then it might not be fun. The right attitude makes or breaks tour trip. I, personally, want to go every time it rains. My wife only agrees like one time in 5.

It's going to rain this weekend. :( What rides are closed during rain and is Disneyland still enjoyable?

We love Disneyland in the rain as long as we are prepared. If it's a real SoCal gullywasher, it can be...challenging...but it's still fun. NO lines. Dash from ride to ride. We use both a poncho and an umbrella. Not so fond of wet feet/jeans, but it's a small price to pay. I'd do rain boots if I didn't have bad feet.

We had one trip last year in February we called "Ponchos On-Ponchos Off". It rained off and on the entire weekend. We still had a GREAT time!

Have a good attitude. Take ponchos (or buy them).

These are by Splash Mountain. It was a ghost town! We figured we were already wet, so why not ride it???? (This was also a no-kid trip.)

Last year while on our honeymoon at DL it rained the first day - not for long really at all but remained very overcast the rest of the day - it was a Thursday and we didn't wait for more than 10 minutes for any ride - it was great fun! The rain is nothing to be afraid of since there are plenty of areas to go to. It's Disney so just have fun with it ;)

For me there is no better time to go than when it rains. The park clears out and I have been able to walk onto most any ride.

I completely agree.

Well I went and got my DD some waterproof Tevas and a new rain jacket and we are just going to go with the attitude that we will get on more rides. It's Disneyland, what's not to like? :yay:

We will be there this weekend and we will be prepared for rain. We are from Vancouver, BC and definitely know how to dress for the rain:rotfl:I was just really hoping to escape the rain:sad1:
The forecast keeps changing so I am hoping if we prepare for the worst, anything else will be bonus!

I LOOOOOOOOVE Disneyland in the rain  :rotfl: In fact, I am hoping for rain on my trip this December. Why do I love disneyland in the rain? Because it's usually practically empty!

With that said, I bring my own poncho...it's alot cheaper than buying one in the Park (you can even pick them up at Wal-Mart, in the camping department, for about $2 for the cheapie disposable ones), plus I don't have to go search for one whilst getting soaked

As to what closes:

Rain Only:
Alice in Wonderland
Mad Tea Party
Mark Twain
Columbia (if running)
Storybook Land Canal Boats
Heimlich's Chew Chew Train
Francis's Lady Bug Boogie
Matterhorn

These all become slippery when wet, so it is not safe to keep them running.

If there is Lightning:
Splash Mountain
Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthough
Finding Nemo
California Screamin'
Grizzly River Run
Gadget's Go Coaster
Rafts to Tom Sawyer's Island (These may close during rain only, depending on how heavy the rain is)
it's a small world

This is for the obvious safety reasons, lightning and water are not a good combination.

Please note that this is only a general rule, Disney will always adjust what is closed based on what is safe and what will work and won't work due to how heavy the rain is.

Love DL in the rain too. And I like the ponchos they sell you at the resort for $7 over the dollar ones from discount stores since they are very sturdy and just stay in our Disney suitcase ... we've had the same ones for 7 years so its a wash as far as price, though small tears are starting to make them look bad (though they still keep water out).
Even if they close the rides they do cool things like having characters come out. Our last rainy day my friend and I got these pictures since there was no Jedi Training Academy.

Anybody know the code to make the pictures appear smaller on this board only, not on my facebook?

I LOVE DL in the rain, as long as I am prepared for it (rain boots and poncho). I went last Sunday specifically because it was supposed to rain. I don't like umbrellas because they don't keep me as dry and I hate trying to dodge around them when other people have them, so I figured I shouldn't take them.

I will say that the Matterhorn WAS running in the rain, but it was not a down pour, more like a steady rain.
