We were there yesterday to see some friends who were staying at the Loews Vanderbilt. Going back to our hotel, which was out by the airport, we noticed I24 closed.
Leaving the hotel this morning we went to grab breakfast at an IHOP near the Hermitage. After breakfast, the route our GPS had us taking was closed down. The river had flooded the roadway.
People were driving like fools, BTW. Most of the roadways we were on had lots of water on them and we had people speeding through and weaving in and out of those of us taking it slower.
Anyways we managed to find our way to I 65 so we could get home.
Areas along the HWY looked horrible. My husband was taking pictures out of the window. Flooding everywhere and in a number of places the water was coming right up to the highway.
The worst things we saw, a number of barns under water, some houses under water, submerged cars and this one brought tears to my eyes:
A group of horses that were in water up to their shoulders. They were huddled together in the water, must have been ten horses there together. Their little heads were all sticking up in the air. I don't know how or even if they could be rescued, the land all around them was under water.
I feel for the people in the affected areas. We have never seen this much flooding.
Last night, in the Loews vanderbilt bar, we were watching in shock as that school building went floating down the highway and broke into pieces. Everyone in the bar got quiet, mouths dropped open.
