Rain?

Of all the trips I've made to my favorite place I have never been there when it has rained. Last February was my first time there during the rainy season, but it didn't rain. I was just curious how rain can affect rides?

I'm really really excited about planning this trip. I am 23 and have been dating the best guy since July. I've always joked with my mom that before I get serious about someone they have to pass the "Disneyland Test". I have decided he is worthy as my first companion to the happiest place on earth other than my mom. He is the first relationship I've been in where everything has just clicked. We are both playful and always have a great time just being together. We crack each other up constantly. I know this trip will be great.

We are going to be there from January 12 - January 15. I'm not worried about rain. Rain or shine I know we will have a great time. (It will also be our 6 month anniversary!) I was just curious if certain rides shut down...specifically Screamin' and BTMR. Thanks =)

The only rides that close in DL for rain is Alice and Teacups. However, I can tell you from first hand experience that Matterhorn and Screamin both HURT if it is raining hard at all. OWIE!

If it is lightning, all the outside roller coasters will close.

Also, when it rains, people tend to stay away so lines are very short.

Also what are the crowds like during that time? Will the holiday crowds be long gone?

Sounds good to me. I am sure it will be great. No matter what. As far as the rain hurting on Screamin...no pain no gain

I am getting so excited I can't stand it! I just talked with my boyfriend and he was able to get the time off of work. Time to make some reservations!!

Our first trip was in January 2004 when it was flooding everywhere in Southern California. It rained everyday for like 20 something days. We saw and heard so many families who stayed in their hotel the entire time. We didn't mind. We had a few hours a day of no rain. W were still there everyday at rope drop and made the best of it. We were able to ride everything except Alice and Tea Cups. But it dried up enough so we were able to ride them a few times. They did cancel several parades because the floats are on wheels and could loose their traction. If you buy ponchos at DL and they tear, they will replace them for you!! Also, if you wear a poncho, put a baseball cap over the hood and it keeps the raindrops from hitting your face as you walk through the park

They generally only close them if it is lightening, and that is a severe rarity here in Southern California

My oldest DS and I were there in January 2005 and we had rain for most of the afternoon and into the evening of one of our days there. Being from the east coast where rain is not exactly a major event, we were amused by the locals reactions to the rain, how when we watched TV the night before the rain, the lead story of the 11:00 news was the upcoming storm. I was a little worried, thinking it must be really severe, but when the next day came, it was really nothing. We just put on our ponchos, got some umbrellas, and we had a great time. The park was just about empty. Toontown must not drain very well because we were slogging around through a couple inches of water on the pavement back in that area of the park.

As for crowds, I've been to DL for a 4 day weekend the weekend after MLK Day both in 2005 and 2006 and the crowds were very minimal, I think the longest wait for anything was maybe 20-25 minutes, most waits much shorter.

Disneyland is wonderful in the rain! We have some very fond memories splashing thru DL in our ponchos. The crowds really thin out and there are hardly any lines for the rides. When we were there the rains did not last very long and the sun would pop right back out.

Thanks for the poncho and hat trick. Hopefully we won't have to deal with rain. Although we could definitely use some this year! Oh well I guess it's win win. If it does rain then I don't have to worry about doing my hair in the morning!

If you're not a sissy about getting wet it's a perfect time to hit outdoor rides. We've also found that even if the *ride* is inside, people bail on the outside lines, so you end up with a shorter wait.
