Rain and DSLRs

You can get a few different olympus p&s models that are completely waterproof, as well as shockproof(drops of around 5 feet) and freezeproof. Our 7y/o has one...its great for when I don't want to pull out my D80/18-200mmvr

I use one of these when I shoot the kids soccer/baseball games. You get two in the package and I've used the same one over and over again.

When I was at DL, I used one in a ziplock bag and shot through that.

Life is short. Hope that you end up on the dry side.

Love the pic. What camera and protection did you use when this was taken? First WDW trip in December and don't want to be afraid to use it, it will also be my first trip with a DSLR.

This was the last shot of the day for my Canon Rebel XS. I stood to the side, but a wind gust caused this watery missile to do a direct hit on the camera. It was soaked. By the end of the day it was trying to work, but would keep fogging up due to all the moisture inside. Once back at the motel, I took off the lens and let the camera body dry out over night. The next day it worked fine.

PS: If your camera does get very wet DO NOT keep hitting the shutter release. This could cause a short and a very expensive repair.

DisneyGrampa,

I think I ran across you flickr account once or twice. I love looking at your pics.

Three words: Pentax Weather Sealing.

Plenty of folks with K-7s or K-xs who have and will shoot in a rain storm no problem. Weathersealed body, weathersealed lens combo is great.

I haven't taken my K-7 out in the rain yet, but I look forward to trying it out just for funsies. If you can, why not? :)

Because I hate rain?

Because Florida is the lightening death capital of the world?

FWIW, the K-x is not sealed, but I really didn't think I would use that feature anyway <see above>.

The camera was a Canon 1D Mark II. For protection, I pointed the lens away from the splashes so that I wouldn't get water shots in my picture.

True, but there's a difference between standing in a light rain shower (fun sometimes) and going out in a crazy thunderstorm (crazy always).

Funny I should read this...I was doing a camping trip last night w/ our RA boys from church and I was taking pics w/ my D60 w/ SB 600 flash..well, it got left out by me, and it came a rain shower during the night...Everything was soaked, but the power came on and I took pics..flash worked, and the pics came out great..but I don't know what the long term effects would be though...I told my wife right out, so she wouldn't think I did it "accidentally" to get a new camera...
