Rain All Day Forecast, Which Park Would You Do

laughing re the 'inside' west coast comments, those of us on the east coast do tend to buy into the stereotypes:laughing:.

Not familiar with ridging term but it sounds ominious for tourists hoping for warm dry weather, but i realize rain will be welcome in your area.

Intering re the FP machines & rain, can't say i ever noticed them shut down in the rain @ WDW, even when it's pouring but the popular rides tend to run out early anyway.

We'll roll with whatever. Will just pack small umbrellas & our commando rain hats;). Being forced to take the ponchos on & off for each ride @ WDW got on my nerves last trip. Is it safe to assume DL enforces this too?

Looking at the latest models as of this morning and they're all in agreement. No precip through Feb 15th.

from your lips:wizard:that's the date i'm questioning. I had a friend whose employer subscribes to the premium accuweather that gives the hourly forecast check my vacation dates. Was thrilled to see warm enough temps that we can hop in the pool:banana:! But, she said it showed steady rain & thunderstorms the evening of the 10th, approx 1/3rd of an inch. That's nothing for my part of the country, but as bumbershoot mentioned, didn't think it rained much in CA and was hoping it'd keep the crowds down that day.;) We'll be there, rain or shine but will likely concentrate on DCA during the day.

:lmao: I'm in CA but it sure as heck rains here.....it POURS here, often and regularly. Heck, it even freezes here! LOL I think you mean to say "didn't think it rained much in SO CA" because that makes all the difference. :)

And we all live by the beach!

Right?? lol My company's HQ is located in MA, IT called after I first started working here and asked how our "lunch time surf break was"....I about DIED laughing. First off, I'm at least an hour from any beach, second we get half an hour for lunch.....LOL I do live in a great place, I'm an hour from beaches and an hour from the mountains (without traffic) but I don't go in the water, it's too cold.....LOL

OP the weather here changes daily, I wouldn't even start looking until Monday or Tuesday of next week. :)

Pixie I got a kick out of reading that.

I've been living here in San Diego for a bit more than three years now. My friend from Miami is coming to visit me next week for the first time. She typed out an elaborate itinerary of all the "California" things she wanted to see and experience. It's your basic stereotypical list, but I was particularly amused when she was planning out our meals. She literally asked "will it be hard to find restaurants that I like? I'm not really into the whole raw food/vegetarian thing". :rotfl2: Bless her heart, she really envisions that everyone here is living off of sprouts and seeds.

That's pretty good. Going back 20 years ago or so, my older brother came visiting from Chicago with his (then) girlfriend. My DW helped her unpack, then came back to our room, practically busting a gut. I asked her what was so funny. Turns out the GF had brought about 1/2 a suitcase of, um, feminine products. She wasn't sure she could find any out here on the coast :rotfl2:

Wait...you mean you don't live off sprouts and seeds? :lmao::thumbsup2 That's awesome!! Similar to something my brother said once, about not being to come see me because he couldn't go a week without having a nice juicy steak......:rotfl: I cried...I laughed so hard I literally cried. I couldn't talk to him anymore, I had to give the phone to my DBF and then he laughed so hard he almost cried.......misconceptions about Californians are simply ridiculous. LOL

No offense OP, this is not directed at you at all! :)

Oh and....my Grandma couldn't understand how I could live in a state that had an earthquake every day, don't I fall out of bed every night? LOL

what i don't know about CA in general would fill a book;). Watched new Alcatraz show the other day & was suprised the actors were bundled up. DH (he who was stationed there years ago) brought me up to speed re temps. Heck it was 63 degrees here in western PA yesterday and it's been a really mild winter with no more than a few inches of snow on the ground at any time, climates seem to be all over the place.

We leave on saturday for Vegas so i'm just trying to fill that suitcase. Yesterday the forecast for that city changed nearly 10 degrees/day:headache:. I'm losing faith in accuweather. Just going to pack a little bit of everything and a sweater/light jacket.

I always layer, that way you can add or take away when needed. And I always over pack :rotfl2:

Temps in Vegas can change drastically. It is a desert after all.

If you want to use a good site for weather, use NOAA. They only go out 7 days at the most and that's because they know you can't predict anything more than 7 days. Actually, 3 days out is the most accurate prediction and that can be iffy.

I wouldn't count on the forcast being accurate, and also realize that rain at DL is very different from WDW. WWDW rain will come and go in an hour, at DL it will come in and stay around for hours - and it will be colder than WDW. Just keep that in mind :)

Also unlike WDW, the two parks are so closes, people park hop between DL and DCA several times throughout the day. They're probably 300 feet apart from eachother.

Rain will have a huge impact on attendenece because the locals will no go to the park, and there is a significantly higher percentage of locals compared WDW parks.

Some rides will close, and other rides have outdoor queues so expect more closures compared to WDW which is more rain-ready in general.

Have fun!

It really is crazy. I live in San Diego and I work outside, so I have to dress for everything and just go with the flow. Tomorrow, in my zip code, the LOW is 39 degrees, but the HIGH is 74. Talk about fluctuation throughout the day! When I leave the house for work, I usually am wearing knee-high socks, long johns, jeans, a thermal shirt, a hoodie, a coat, a scarf, ear warmers, and gloves. Then, by about 1:00 when we reach the high for the day, I can be in pants and a t-shirt. You just have to layer, layer, layer!

:rotfl:

Meanwhile, one of the best vegetarian restaurants I've been to is in North Carolina! (sure, Asheville, but still, it's inside the borders of NC)

Oh and....my Grandma couldn't understand how I could live in a state that had an earthquake every day, don't I fall out of bed every night? LOL

Ah, but then east coast relatives get the west coast people calling and worrying about tornadoes and hurricanes no matter where the hurricanes are actually headed (or if tornadoes are a possibility). :)

I realized that DS has not yet experienced an earthquake of any magnitude we can feel, and he's 7.5 years old and has lived in western WA all his life. Not that I want one, but it's just interesting.

I always layer, that way you can add or take away when needed. And I always over pack :rotfl2:

Layering is your friend, LOL.

I grew up in San Jose CA and I layered there, too! Of course, that's when I thought 50 degrees was just beyond freezing...nowadays I avoid the place because I broil there.

We went in December and had a day of rain. What a mess that was!! Yes, the crowds were lower, but they shut down all they FP machines so you have no choice but to wait standby for everything. Lines for Star Wars were up to 60 minutes, and Indy was about 75 minutes. I asked a CM why the FP machines weren't open, and the first one told me they close them when the crowds are lower. The second CM told me they close them because a lot of them are exposed to the elements, and they don't want them to get damaged from the rain. After seeing some of the wait times, I'm believing CM #2.

We spent most of our day at DCA, doing what a lot of others suggested: Aladdin, Monsters, Inc., Little Mermaid, Animation Academy, Bug's Life...

The rain let up around 5-ish, but DL was closing early that night for the CM Holiday Party. DH went back to get pictures with rainwater reflections (really cool pictures!!) and I grabbed a hot chocolate and went back to the Animation Academy.

 That's ridiculous. In December 2009 when it rained they didn't do any of that. Some of the FPs became useless (they just let everyone into the building for Indy, whether you had a FP or not). But they didn't show all the machines. (They DO normally close SOME of the machines when it's not busy, like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, but certainly not Indy or Star Tours!)

Rainwater reflection photos are the best, though!

Like I said, it freezes here regularly. For Christmas this year I asked DBF for an ice scraper because I was tired of using my credit cards.....lol I had the same misconceptions before I moved here and realized what a diverse state CA really is. You've heard the saying "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in SF"? Well, it's cold most days in SF.......lol I grew up in Oregon, small town in the mountains, it was cold there too..... ;) Layering is the way to go....

Not all of us do that. I know where tornadoes and hurricanes are, we only call if there are really things to worry about. :) My kids don't even blink at quakes, heck neither do I anymore. lol

This is always the way it is for us as well. They don't close the FP machines completely, at least not normally.....
