Hi,

We have a ressie at Raglan Road but know nothing about it, other than it's really good, a friend of a friend recommended it to us. Anyone have any suggestions/recommendations as to what to order? What's not to miss?

Thanks!:goodvibes

We are going for the first time in October. I have heard that the bread pudding is really good.

I had the bread pudding on Sunday's lunch. It was very very good! The waitress suggested putting the bread onto the plate it was served on and pouring both the creme anglaise and the butterscotch sauce on top. It was soo good!

I had had a big breakfast that day so I only ordered the calamari appetizer with a side salad. The calamari also comes with tempura style veggies: red peppers, pea pods, carrots. It was a good light meal.

BF had the burger and salad. The burger bun was good in that it had red onions baked into it. It was quite juicy and flavorful.

I love the Scallop Forest, hubby loves Kevin's Kudos. We order the colcannon as a side. We have three children, spouses and grandchildren, so we have tasted almost everything on the menu. All good...never had a bad meal there.

The desserts..well, had them all as well. The bread pudding is fantastic, lol, but so are the rest of them.

Order what sounds good to you and enjoy your evening.

The bread pudding is the BEST we've ever had - and we've tasted a lot.

Guiness is always good ;)

I have been dreaming about that bread pudding since I had it last in Feb 07. I was heavenly! I'm looking forward to having it again in less than 2 weeks! Seriously, the bread pudding is the reason we are going back to Raglan Road this trip. The rest of our meal was great, but it was by far the best!

DH and I went last September and it was one of our favorites. :thumbsup2 We loved the atmosphere and the food but stay away from the Irish Sangria, it's apple cider based and awful! :scared:

Robert's linked review is AWESOME but since we were just there on Sunday & had completely different items off of the menu I'd like to add our experiences:

We had 6PM reservations but after waiting for a half hour for the bus we knew we weren't going to make it in time. I called RR, they resceduled us for 6:30 without a problem and we were seated immediately when we arrived (it turned out that the DTD bus had broken down en route to us).

We found the bread to be good, but very hearty. If you're planning on a heavier entree you probably won't want to fill up on the bread but definitely try it. The guinness reduction that they served to dip it in was a nice, sweet touch.

We had the fried calamari appetizer and it was lovely. Very, very light batter and perfectly crisp tempura veggies. My son ate most of the calamari :rotfl: .

My husband had the four provinces flight which is a great way to try out any beer that you're unfamiliar with without committing to a full pint. My husband was very familiar with all of the beer offered :rotfl: . Still, he couldn't make up his mind so the flights are a good idea.

The one beer that he hadn't had before was the Tucher Hefe Weizen so he ordered a pint of that. The fact that the pint arrived garnished with an orange slice should have tipped us off. Be advised that the Tucher is a very, very fruity beer & not the best choice for drinking along with food (or at all  ).

Anyway, my husband had the mixed grill which he really enjoyed but I NEED to tell you that the Salmon of Knowledge is TO DIE FOR! Oh I've been going nuts trying to get the recipe ever since we got back. It was perfectly cooked, perfectly moist and just divine. The smoked salmon across the top provided just the right amount of saltiness and the glaze just the right amount of sweet. If you like salmon, please try it. It comes on a bed of mashed potatoes and sauteed leeks, which was also good but, oh, the salmon!

My son had the chicken & chips. Very heavy batter on the chicken, like you would expect to find on fish.

For dessert my husband had the bailey's creme brullee (served as a pie slice rather than in a ramekin) which was delicious but a bit sweet and I had the chocolate trio (dark chocolate mousse, white chocolate mousse and a small chocolate shake...really, is there such a thing as too much chocolate?). The dark chocolate mousse was very rich, the white almost like froth in comparison and the shake was good, but just a shake. If I ever do go back I'll have something else for dessert. I was afraid that the bread pudding would be too heavy.

We live & work in close proximity to large Irish communites with many of these Irish pub & nouveau pub style restaurants. We're also just north of NYC with it's many outstanding Irish & English restaurants so the food was nothing new to us but I would go back to Raglan Road in a heartbeat. I'm already on the hunt for the chef's cookbook.

bread pudding is amazing!! :) The shepards pie was good...a little dry but yummy. my friend LOVES the sausages appetizer...i forget what it actually is!

Ditto to this comment.

DH wants to try the Heavenly Ham and I think I am going to try the Chicken Pot Pie...and of course the bread pudding

We recent went to RR as well and I LOVED the Chicken and green beans w/ tiny carrot slices with the mashed taters....BUT the soup/dipping sauce? a creamy mushroom to die for yumminess, haha, was the highlight. In the words of Brobie "Try it, you'll like it"
Hubby had that salmon mentioned above and LOVED it. We were all very pleased with our meals. :)
