Background:
We used to go to Raglan Road every trip. Loved it.
Second to last trip - food was fine, service was pretty lacking (guy may have been new or just every overwhelmed and confused).
Last trip - had we never been before, we would never consider going back. Seated in the area between the host stand and bar. Crowded with people standing around waiting for tables - why on earth would they be allowed to wait there? Drunk group of middle age men who kept bumping the table and stick their rear ends in our faces! Service was slow as molasses - we had the impression our server had no desire to fight the crowd near our table. Food ranged from one good dish to two average and a terrible cut of steak. Hd trouble getting refills on drinks and felt like we were there forever.
It was so bad, after really good experiences that I emailed the manager. He wanted to "make it right on our next trip" (we have no need for that, just wanted him to know we had a terrible experience at a once favorite restaurant.
That was two years ago. Going this winter and will be meeting people at DS for the evening. The choice of the bday person is Raglan Road.
Was this last experience an anomaly? Should I email and ask to NOT be seated in that area?

Thoughts?

We had a similar experience. It was always one of our favourite spots and we went every year.

We last went in March 2016 and it was a disaster. Service was terrible, we waited forever to be seated. we were seated nowhere near the entertainment, which we requested and is why we go. When I asked how much longer it would be for a table that could see the dancers, she shrugged and walked away. Couldn't even give me an estimate. That was just the start of slow, inattentive service.

We were so disappointed because it was always a trip highlight for us. We are in the process of booking March 2017 and DH wants to try something new, but nothing else is really calling my name. I don't know what we will end up doing :confused3

We were there earlier this month. We waited for over 30 minutes past our ADR time but we did request to sit in the main dining area to see the dancers. Service was slow, but that was okay because we enjoyed the band and the dancers. Food was delicious. Worth the wait. It's a definite must do for us.

Sorry to say that we went last week and had a similar terrible experience as OP. We were not seated between the host stand and bar but actually further in near the bar on the right hand side, at a high top table with a view of the show. It would have been a great table except there were tons and I mean tons of people standing in there just watching the show (not dining). They kept leaning all over our table and we kept having to ask people to move and one guy would not move. His arm was draped across our dinner table. The waitress looked overwhelmed and just shrugged. We decided to leave before eating. In my opinion, if they are going to use these tables for dinner guests with reservations, they need to stop people from standing there.

That's exactly where we sat and it was awesome! We would definitely request that area again. Sorry that there were a ton of people standing around your table. That's too bad. There were just a few people at the bar the evening we were there so thankfully we didn't have the same experience as you.

Whenever we go it is a must stop for me. Of course I will typically go just for the bar. If you think the service is bad inside, try sitting outside in the middle of the day. I cant tell you how many times the service was just garbage. But I love the music and the atmosphere, for me its a good place to sit and cool off while my wife shops. I'm happy because I get to enjoy a beverage or three, and my wife is happy because by the time she gets there, I don't care what she bought.:drinking1

We were there in March, spring break, our first time. We loved it. I can see how the waiting area/seating there can be tight. We were seated in the dining room (early ADR) near the dance podium. DD (a dancer) LOVED being that close, but it was hard to hear even with no dancing or singers. That being said, it was a wonderful meal overall.

I had been wanting to experience this restaurant for a long time. Finally, on my last trip, I did. One and done for me!! Service was awful...slow to bring the food and no time to discuss the menu with me. Food was not impressive. I had a great table, so that was a positive in terms of seeing the entertainment. But...I won't be back. :(

We went last week. A group of three, ended up with a high top table near the bar. No one was in our space, and service was great. Food was excellent. The entertainment however...was a bit disappointing. Raglan Road has always been a must do for me. Going forward, I think I'll be checking more regularly to see who is scheduled to perform that day.
