My family (me, DH, and DD8) is headed to New York to see the Radio City Christmas Show next Saturday. My experience of New York is limited pretty much to 42nd Street, 5th Ave, Broadway, Toys R Us. I'm a city neophyte; my DH and DD have never been there before. We've got about 5 hours after the show to do some sightseeing and lunch. I'd like to not stray too far from the Rockefeller Center area. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to spend our time? I've already planned to see the tree and skaters and go to Toys R Us to ride the ferris wheel. Any good places to have a leisurely lunch?

You're a short walk away from FAO Schwartz (across from the Plaza), Tiffany's, and all that around 5th Ave. just up from Rockefeller Center. There's also a Godiva Chocolate store. Below FAO Schwartz is a Houilihan's restaurant that might be a good lunch. That's the one place I've eaten in that neighborhood. I'm sure some other posters will have a few more ideas.

We just went to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular last week! It was very good! It was our first time in NYC and we toured everything we could in 3 days. There is a great restaurant that was recommended to me called Virgils BBQ. It is close to Toys R Us and Broadway. We didn't think we would end up at a BBQ coming to NYC but it was very good. It is a very nice restaurant and everything was delicious. We also did Madame Tussaud's wax museum. We had a blast going from person to person getting tons of pics. DH especially liked Marilyn Monroe and Madonna! LOL! You will have such a great time! We are already planning on going back next November for another anniversary.

Ellen's Stardust Diner is on 7th and 51st, right near the wWintergarden Theater and just a few blocks form Radio City. Serendipity is on 63rd Street -- they make the best frozen hot choclolate. Mars 2112, across the street from Ellen's, is a theme restaurant -- great theming but kind of pricy.

If your DD is an American Girl fan, the just opened an American Girl Place on 48th and 5th. Very short walk frome Radio City.

I'm going with my GS troop this Saturday. After the show we're meeting up with my sister who lives in Manhattan. She recommended Ellen's Stardust diner, so we're going there for lunch, then the American Girl store, the big tree at Rockefeller Plaza, and some window shopping. :D

Here's another idea. Take the tour at Radio City(if they still do this). its very popular. You get to see some places back stage, hear about the history of the Rockettes and even meet 1 or 2 of them for a Q&A. Its well worth the money i thought. They'll tell you things you'd never guess otherwise. Its been a few years since i was there, but the show is great. Can't remeber where i ate the last time but it was right around the corner from Rockefeller Center. Enjoy yourselves. BTW, food is not cheap in NYC. But the serving sizes are amazing, so don't worry the prices on the menu.

Octoberbride03, do you know if you can purchase the backstage tour tickets on site day of? The website puts me into Ticketmaster. My browser doesn't like the Radio City site and keeps crashing so its hard to navigate.

skiwee1, thanks for reminding me of Madame Tussaud's. I have a coupon for it too! Do you remember the running time for the Christmas show?
