Ok I have reservations at Pop Century 12-27 thru 1-2 for 3 rooms-it will be me and DH, DS-11, DS-6, DD-6, DD-4 and my parents. So we need 3 rooms Checking into other resorts to accomodate is way more expensive and we are paying 2500 already for PC. So here is my dilema-do I keep it and stay onsite since it's the busiest week of the year or do we rent a house at Windsor palms and rent 2 cars which will save us $1000 (the house and cars $1500). It will give us 4 bedrooms, full kitchen, full laundry (i have never made a trip without doing a lot of laundry no matter how much i pack) privite screened pool, 2 car garage and tons more space. Located <3miles from WDW entrance. I also figure we will save a bunch being able to store snacks and drinks in full size fridge eat breakfast at home and maybe even have a night or 2 with something in crockpot when we get home. I haven't figured the total for feeding 8 of us at WDW 3 meals a day plus snacks-but I am sure it won't be pretty. I can't decide! I love staying on-site but it seems like a wast right know with the amount of us! What would you do!

TIA!

That's a tough one. It would be hard to pass up saving that much. I can't remember if you said how recent your last trip was or if you plan to go again in the near future. If I were you and this was the only trip for a while I would stay on site. If you plan to go in the next couple of years then save the money. You may find that the space and convience of a house so great you'ld do it again. In other words, if this is your one big trip with no others in the forseeable future then you may prefer to stay on site and enjoy the extra magic.

Oh man is that a hard call!

I love staying on-site and I know when i've stayed off site i'm missing some of that Disney magic. You just do. Staying on-site is special.

If I was traveling with my parents I would probably want us all together in a house. I think that would be fun. Plus they could help out easier. You'd also be saving that $1000

Very very hard descision!

I think even if the dollars were the same, you'd be much more comfortable in the house with furniture to lounge around on. As much as I would love to stay on-site, we always stay a few miles away in timeshares.

We save a ton of money by eating simple meals in our condo. We run the washer/dryer while everybody is bathing or eating, so I don't have a mess of laundry when we get back home.

The biggest downside that I could see is that this will limit your ability to split up and go in different directions a bit, but it's a small price to pay if you are more comfortable.

The other possible disadvantage is that this might seem a little less like a vacation if you are doing a bit of work (cooking, cleaning the kitchen, washing your own towels every day). It doesn't bother me as I can putter around while the family is winding down for the day, but to some it might be less relaxing.

Hi Sarah,

Where/how did you get such a great rate for the house and car?
Thanks.

Personally, I'm a big fan of staying offsite, especially during busy times of year. Unless you're staying at a monorail hotel, waiting for a bus, especially at the beginning or end of the day, can take up a considerable amount of time to get back to your hotel.
And trying to get from, one hotel to another and be a nightmare for PS times, character meals, etc.
If you have your own car, getting from a park to a meal is as easy as jumping in, driving 5-15 minutes anywhere on property, and being on time. If you're at a park you can get a bus to a hotel, usually with some other stops; unless it's full, then you've missed your PS. If your at a hotel and need to get to another hotel; get ready for a transfer, with the possiblity of haveing 2 full buses.
No thanks, I'd rather drive myself anywhere, anytime, and know I'm going to make it.

sandyfeet-I got the house thru vrbo.com and the rental car & van thru dollar-I didn't have any special codes or anything. I thought that was a really good rate for the cars-especially since we're getting a minivan and a economy size car. The houses I think are really exceptionally priced they are beautiful spcaious homes with nice pools here is a link to the house we rented...

I hope it's as nice as it looks! The Windsor Palms Resort seems to be very highly recommended! I guess we'll see! I hope it doesn't turn out like a bad movie! LOL!
