rack rate with dining plan?

I know that for the free dining plan, you had to pay rack rate for a room. However, if you are not going during free dining and will be paying for the dining plan package, are the rooms still at the rack rate? Are you able to use any room discounts or deals with the package? Can you get the dining package with AAA? Sorry, I'm sure this has been asked, but I am just trying to figure out whether to book a package or do everything separately. Thanks.

If you are having to pay for the dining plan, then you can go for whatever discounts you can find, AAA, Disney, whatever you can get. The rack rate stipulation was only for those, like me, who were able to get the free dining package due to choice of off-season travel time. The stipulation was part of the package, I guess you could say. With certain discounts, you can save about as much money as you would by getting the free dining package, although you'd pay for your dining plan. I know last year, when I stayed at BC, we saved about $600 on our room, with a discount. This year, we're saving $603 by getting the free dining package. So, as you can see, it's sort of a wash.

As of yet the only discount you can combine it with is AAA. You can't combine it with a room only discount like an AP rate. if they come out with a general public discount code for rooms they used to allow it to be applied to the room portion of a pacakage but at this point I kind of doubt there will be a general public room code. If there is a general public code, I bet it is free dining or some other such thing that requires you to buy a package.

I'm not sure exactly what this means, but keep in mind that the OP is not trying to combine FREE dining with any other discounts, but is wondering if you can get other discounts, if you're also paying for the dining plan. I can't see why you could not. You may have to book the dining plan at the same time you get your room, but in the end it's just an add-on to your room cost, like park tickets.

For instance, last year, I got that BC room discount, like I had earlier for WL and Poly in years past. I chose not to buy the dining plan in place at that time, but I could have chosen to purchase those, just like you can buy the MYW dining plan now. My room discount would not have been affected at all.

I really doubt the free dining package will be offered again anytime soon. In the future, I'd say they are more likely to offer room discounts as in the past. They give up less by offering discounts on the rooms, which are not costing them anything, than by giving guests free dining, which definitely costs Disney some money.

You can get a AAA discount off the room portion of a MYW package + dining if you book directly with a AAA travel agency.

Hope this helps!

what I meant is that you can't take an AP rate and apply the dining to it. You have to book a package and an AP code is a room only rate so you can't make it a package even if you add tickets to the room to be picked up when you get there. It is still a room only rate.

As of yet there have been NO general public room discounts this year. The only general public discount has been the free dining. Disney seems to be pushing packages more than room only so I wouldn't be at all surprised if the entire year goes by with no room discounts for the public.

A lot of AP holders elected to book the FREE dining pacakage and pay for one day tickets in order to get the free dining because they felt that would save their party more than the AP room discount would. That meant they paid rack for the room.

The only discount you can apply, as of now, to a package with dining is AAA and that has to be done through a AAA travel agent.

We had the MYW + dining package in February. We paid for the dining package.
We had to pay rack rate for the room in order to get the package.
The only discount that the system will allow is one that's booked only through a AAA Travel Agent.
No other discounts can be applied.

I was told by a CM that you cannot combine the Florida Resident with the Dining Plan.

Thanks everyone! It's been so long since there were any special codes for room only deals. I wonder if they will offer them again, anytime soon! I'll just have to wait and see and then do the math and compare. Does anyone remember if there were any specials this past May? I'm planning on going next May. Thanks again!
