I am glad that you take precautions that lessens the burden on the agencies that are assigned to handle these catastrophes.. Let us now consider those doctors and nurses in the hospitals. Those patients on life support. Those newborn babies. The elderly who don't drive and don't have the means for temporary lodging. Those who actually stayed behind to help the elderly and disabled who couldn't evacuate. Those who are just to attached to there pets to leave. The children who had to stay with parents who stayed because they thought they could weather that storm. Those victims holed up in hotel rooms. Those who were working in those hotels. Those that are affraid to leave everything they've ever known for a life they know absolutely nothing about.

Even if half stayed foolishly those that couldn't or wouldn't leave for legitimate reasons are far to many. For those victims alone we have to do a better job. Those people will always be somewhere in danger when disaster strikes. That won't change.

With the most perfect plan in the world, there will always be some that can't get out themselves and that the officials can't move beforehand, for a variety of reasons. But those are a small percentage of the people we're talking about here. And the rescue and recovery would have been totally different if the first responders had only had to deal with that smaller number.

Americans are way to kind to people! This is not their country, it doesent matter if they had kids here, im not responsible for having to support them. I don't care if your an American, I shouldn't have to support you. The government was not set up to support their citizens (and non citizens for that matter).

Actually, I do. Who do you think pays for all the "food, water, shelter, blankets"?? ITS YOUR TAX DOLLARS GOING TO FEMA AND OTHER GOVERNMENT AGENCIES!!! You are paying for it, and don't beleve anyother thing you hear. This country was founded on one basic belief. That beleif was that every citizen has religious freedom and the choice to lead a life on their own, AS LONG AS IT DOESEN'T INFRINGE ON ANOTHERS RIGHTS!! Don't you all see how racist this situation is?

I mean, after all, Mayor Roy Nagin (black) and New Orleans P.D. Superintendent Eddie Cassell (black) obviously sent those poor (black) souls to the Superdome to die a miserable (black) death. And the New Orleans P.D. (54% black) did nothing to help the stranded poor (black) souls left to die at the Superdome and Convention Center.

And we all know that the area hit by the storm is 99.9% black and that's why the storm chose that area, because President George W. Bush, who hates blacks, gave Katrina the coordinates to hit the Gulf Coast, where it would kill as many blacks as possible.

OK, sarcasm off now.

What really, really bothers me about this whole thing is that there are a LOT of people getting overlooked because the media truly wants to make this a black/white thing. Do most people not realize that New Orleans Metro area is really 57% white and 37% black? Do most people realize the storm didn't even make landfall in New Orleans, it made landfall in Plaquemines Parish, which probably won't ever exist again? And why is it that we're just now seeing footage of Plaquemines Parish today, some eight days after the storm hit? Could it be because Plaquemines Parish is 70% white?

I mean, for every black leader that comes out and says this is blatant racism against blacks, I can point out the exact same thing occurring to whites. Sounds to me like this storm was an equal opportunity disaster.

And does Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Kanye West realize that it's WHITE AMERICA that's doing the MOST to help these people? To say this country doesn't care about these people because they are black is like spitting in my face. I don't visit shelters to get my face on TV. I'm not donating money to sell a CD. I don't have any reason, other than pure sympathy for these affected by the storm.

I really think JJ, Sharpton and West do more to hurt the cause than help it. Eventually, they'll understand that.

Actually the term refugee can be usd for anyone displaced by war or circumstances. It is not racist in nature because it has been used to describe Jews, peoples of African descent, people in Latin countries, people leaving Russia during communism amd many others.

This is not the first time in the USA history where Americans were called refugees. During the dust bowl times, the ones who left were call refugees. The term was used to indicate that most would never return. And most of those refugee were poor whites from the bread basket of America.

Did anyone else see the story of the 18 year old kid who hotwired a school bus that was left somewhere, filled it with total strangers, drove to the astrodome, and got there hours before the first rescue buses from the superdome arrived? Our local news was saying how he could face criminal charges for stealing the bus

DH told me about him "stealing" the bus. I thought it was a great idea. I did not know about the charges. I hope that is not true. He did not steal the bus for personal gain (like looting) but to help those who could not help themselves.

I am fully aware of what he did to Iraq. Perhaps more aware since American information released MUST be biased because of the need for support for the war.

Do I want him back? No, I want the Americans out and the locals to be able to decide for themselves who they want to lead them.

The US has more important things to worry about. Like their OWN citizens.

Weather you agree with the war, or not, don't downgrade the millitary for it. These guys make jack squat, and put their a*s on the line for you and me, so don't go their.

I have no problem paying for the "removal" of people that infringe on my rights. I do, however have a problem with people that live off the system, refuse to better themselfs, and whine and complain that they aren't getting proper treatment, then have the nerve to blame it on their skin color and politions.

I'm not downgrading the military. My stepdad was a Major in my country's military. He was shot in the Gulf war. He's been more places than I care to count and on more military peacekeeping missions than I can mention.

I never once said I don't support the troops. I don't support the war because I think it was made under false pretences and lies.

How many people do you actually think don't want their lives to be better? Out of everyone I know in my life, only ONE hasn't made an effort.

You assume too much of people. Some people really are stuck where they are.

What I can't stand is how some people actually assume that everyone stuck in those situations, doesn't try to make it better.

I've been on welfare. Did you know that? When I was little. Its not that my mother didn't want to make it better. Its that she had no other choice.

Have you ever been starving? So bad it hurts? I HAVE. Because my father left and my mother couldn't afford to buy food. I've been for a week without anything to eat.

And you presume you have the right to judge?

Was my mother just a horrible mother because she couldn't make enough money to pay all the bills and feed us too? Was she just a horrible woman because she wasn't willing to take us to a shelter to live homeless rather than trying to keep it together by being on welfare?

Until you've been through it, you can't know what its like.
