Good luck WISH team! Can't wait to read all about your races!

I hate when I sign up for a race and the distance is not as advertised. Today I ran a 3.45 mile "5K". I ran a PR pace but the time was slower than some other 5K's I have run. It was a nice flat course that was on the water in Groton, CT.

In other news, I wore my WISH shirt for the first time. When I was 375, I didn't want anyone looking at me so I wore dark green and blue. The safety color is tough to put on but the race director told me at the finish that he loved it. I think that I will grow into being the beacon of light.

Lastly, as usual my warm up was more eventful than the race. As I was warming up, I ran past a couple Canadian Geese. Well, as luck would have it, they had some kids with them and got kind of pissed. One (assuming the mother because women over react ;) ) chased me down the road hissing at me as we went. No more warm ups for me.

Overall, a great race and I was home by 10:00am!

Hope everyone else had a great one.

Scott

Good Luck to everyone running this weekend!!

Can't wait to hear the reports!

Scott--Great job on your race!! I was laughing at your story about the geese. In the park where I run, there are always so many canadian geese and I am always afraid they are going to chase after me for getting to close!!!

Jill & Christa Good Luck on your 5Ks!!!!!

Scott! LOL over your report. I was quite nervous wearing mine for the 1st time and did in the local park as I wanted to try it out before an actual race. But like everyone else heard wonderful things about the shirt. Woohoo on doing so well in your 5K but how weird it was longer. Loved your Geese adventure!

We have them at our park too and today they had the kiddies out for the morning walks so there was a lot of hissing going on so we practiced our Ceasar Milan techinques with the SHHH :lmao:

Hey all... I am back from my Half Marathon. I did awesome considering the conditions, my PF and lack of training and my allergies that stuffed up my whole head and clogged my ears. I took off of work tomorrow, so I will upload some pictures and a race report.

Stephanie - Yes it was the Cellcom 1/2 and Full Marathon. They also had a 5K. I was quite upset that the Packers were training but didn't even come out for a wave. Brett did show up to training tho, I saw it in the newspaper. I have some pics of me running through Lambeau, they played the Chariots of Fire song since it was right at the end. It was cool!!!

OK, I am EXHAUSTED. I will post my report tomorrow.

Scott - great job! I also got brave & wore my WISH shirt during my last LR before Minnie. I was beeped at ALOT by passing motorists. :confused3 That never happened before!

Jen - we need details, woman! ;)

OK, here's the short version of the race report. We were DLF, but the princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, finished, and we met our goal of under 1 hour. We ran/walked together the whole way, and finished around 54 min. My Garmin said we did a 17 mpm pace. It was the farthest my girls ever went and the fastest. That was the short report, now for the details.

I got up at 6am, princess: princess: slept together and set the alarm for 6:30am. We fueled up, drank water, got dressed, and pinned our numbers on.

The girls were sooooo excited for the race. They even went outside and started stretching.

At 7:20am we loaded up in the minivan, and headed out to the race start. We hung out at the start and snapped some pictures. This was the last weekend of the Lilac Festival in Rochester (our biggest summer festival). So we posed by some bushes in full bloom.

More about the race to come...

We did some more stretching while waiting for the 8:00am start.

We did a 5 min warmup walk. DD6 princess: was really nervous that we would miss the start of the race, but I assured her we'd be OK. Notice the sun went in, and it was definitely chilly (probably 50 degrees). [Note - the princess: princess: are in running skirts!]

8:00am we're off... there were over 500 runners in the race.
DSC00447.jpg

The girls ran the first mile faster than they ever had before. We got to the first mile around 14 min. The leaders passed us on the way back before we even made it to the first mile. That was pretty impressive. The princesses princess: princess: were having a great time during the first mile, but then it got hard for DD6 princess:. She was really having a hard time during the 2nd mile. It seemed to really bother her that we were in last place. But I kept assuring her that she was doing great just being out there, that she was going faster than she'd ever gone before, etc. At that point DD9 princess: and the cool Aunt were a little bit ahead of us, and DD6 princess: said she WISHes she could catch up to them without running. I yelled ahead that DD6 princess: would really like to be with them if they were OK waiting. DD9 princess: was great, and stopped right away to wait for us to catch up. Now we were all together, and helping DD6 princess: get through the race.

We tried to sing some songs, and play some running games. We ran tree to tree for a while, which was alot of fun. But the thing that really brightened DD6's princess: spirits was when she asked if we could go out for a special breakfast when we finished the race. I said of course, since we're burning lots of calories, we can go wherever she wants. She decided to go to Friendly's for pancakes. So we all started chanting "Friendly's, Friendly's, Pancakes, Pancakes...", and that really brightened DD6's princess: spirits.

Coming up, the finish...

At Mile 2, I called DW on the cell, and said where we were and that it would take about 20 min for us to finish. However, DD6 princess: really started to pick it up. When the finish line was in sight, we all picked up the pace.

DD9 princess: sprinted ahead and was the first finisher of the family.

Cool Aunt rushed to catch up with DD9

DD6 princess: and I brought up the end of the race
DSC00450.jpg

After DW took the above picture, DD6 princess: started "Super Speed" and finished ahead of me. I was officially DLF!! That's OK, I promised DD6 princess: that she would not be the last place finisher (that seemed important to her). So I knew that I was going to be with DD6 the whole race, and if we were at the back of the pack she would finish ahead of me. I would not let DD6 princess: finish last.

As we crossed the finish line, the 10K runners were getting ready to start. We bumped into some of our neighbors who were running the 10K, and they all congratulated DD6 princess: on finishing the 5K.

We walked back to DW, and the princesses princess: princess: were spent.
