We did some more stretching while waiting for the 8:00am start.
We did a 5 min warmup walk. DD6

was really nervous that we would miss the start of the race, but I assured her we'd be OK. Notice the sun went in, and it was definitely chilly (probably 50 degrees). [Note - the

are in running skirts!]
8:00am we're off... there were over 500 runners in the race.
The girls ran the first mile faster than they ever had before. We got to the first mile around 14 min. The leaders passed us on the way back before we even made it to the first mile. That was pretty impressive. The princesses

were having a great time during the first mile, but then it got hard for DD6

. She was really having a hard time during the 2nd mile. It seemed to really bother her that we were in last place. But I kept assuring her that she was doing great just being out there, that she was going faster than she'd ever gone before, etc. At that point DD9

and the cool Aunt were a little bit ahead of us, and DD6

said she WISHes she could catch up to them without running. I yelled ahead that DD6

would really like to be with them if they were OK waiting. DD9

was great, and stopped right away to wait for us to catch up. Now we were all together, and helping DD6

get through the race.
We tried to sing some songs, and play some running games. We ran tree to tree for a while, which was alot of fun. But the thing that really brightened DD6's

spirits was when she asked if we could go out for a special breakfast when we finished the race. I said of course, since we're burning lots of calories, we can go wherever she wants. She decided to go to Friendly's for pancakes. So we all started chanting "Friendly's, Friendly's, Pancakes, Pancakes...", and that really brightened DD6's

spirits.
Coming up, the finish...
