GOOD LUCK WISHers!!! HAVE FUN!!

Hi all, I guess I am the first race report.
Hopefully I won't bore you with a racewalk report.
I got up at a good time this morning around 5:15am. Got changed, got my gear put together, had some V8 fruit fusion and a bit of cereal. I packed a small cooler with some ice and water. In the car I went and drove up the turnpike to Tradewinds Park (about a 30min drive). I got there around 6:10am. I got my race day gear. In a judged racewalk you get a number for the front and for the back. I did some warming up for about 20min and used the restroom. Put my race numbers on, got my visior and reapplied my sunscreen and lip balm. BOY it was HOT this morning and I was already sweating like a pig before the race began!! ugh!
At the start of the race I saw 5 ladies and aobut 6 men. Kinda small I know, but that's competitive racewalking in the area. The horn blew and off I went. I didn't bring my Garmi because it was stated that no timing devices were allowed, but I saw lots of people with them. So, with no Garmi to help me stay on pace I just did what I thought was my best. I did start off kinda fast and had to slow a bit. Two ladies and 2 guys took off past me. Another lady (#102) kept with me for a bit and then slowed down. I man came up beside me for a time around mile 1 and then he passed me. Alittle past 1.5 miles the girl that was behind me was even with me (102) I decided to let her pass me and I just used her as a pace. She would speed up a bit, but I just held on to staying behind her. Around mile 2.5 I started doing some speed drills to see how hard I could push it and if I could possible pass her, I thought it might work. So with about .10 left I started my pass and she started to speed up and I kept with her for a moment and then I found something down inside and pushed it some more and passed her and stayed in front until the cones!!! Not knowing, but she kept going and did the 10K. This lady was also at the Minnie. I just couldn't do a 10K after the Minnie 15K last Sunday.
I was almot hyperventilating at the end - ugh, I had to catch my breath. So, I came in first for the 5K. They switched my category from Open to State so It would be on record. Actually, the two ladies in front of me beat me for a 5K, but they were entered into the 10K. I did 3.10 miles in 39min53sec for a whopping 12:53 pace - OMG I think I was flying and don't know how in the world I did that. I am amazed at myself. I had two judges come up to me after and said I looked good and my form was great and not to change much. One said I have potential to get much faster, but it would take much work!!

So, that is my report. I was so excited I called my Mom on my cell while I was driving home and I got on the turnpike going North (to Orlando) ugh. I chalk it up to my car wants to go see Mickey Mouse. Well, I had to find the next exit so I could turn back around and head South. haha :lmao:

Hey WISH!

I didn't submit this race for the calendar because I was undecided until this morning. This was a local 5k, the Race for the Pinks. It was at 8 a.m. Funny how I think nothing of getting in my car at 4:30 a.m. or earlier at Disney, but this seemed like a horrible hour!

Anyway, I told myself if the kids woke me up in time, I'd go. Sure enough, they were up! I decided to take Harry with me since he's never been in a 5k where I've run. This one didn't restrict strollers.

Coach Harry and I headed on over, dragged out the stroller, and registered (all within 15 minutes before the race- cutting it a little close!) Harry and I had one moment of trouble before the race when I told him I was taking off his shoes to put in the stroller basket so he didn't throw them while I was running. He was very indignant-- "No, I want run!" I told him he couldn't this year, but maybe soon!

We started in the back so we could stay out of the way. As usual, I was excited when it started, but hated the first mile. The second mile was slightly better. By the third mile, I was feeling good and passing people. There was plenty of room on the streets. I felt slightly guilty passing people with my stroller, but at least I had on my WISH shirt! ;)

Harry and I finished in 32:xx. We decided that since technically I was doing the work for 3 people (me, GoofyBaby, and Harry), that was a pretty good result! Harry loved racing. I think I'll take him in any other 5ks I do until I'm post-GoofyBaby. If I go too fast, the stroller starts shaking...:rolleyes1

I got some comments on the shirt-- all positive of course! People are so funny. They were mingling after they finished, but no one stuck around to cheer for the racers still coming in. You will be pleased to hear in the spirit of WISH, Harry and I stayed at the line cheering for everyone (ok, he wasn't so much cheering as eating a banana). :rolleyes1 It paid off too- I got to see one of my friends finish who I didn't realize was there. It was her first 5k, so that made me happy!

Hope everyone else had/will have great races!!

Tracy- that is so cool! I am so impressed with your report and your speed! And your trophy is fabulous!:woohoo: I have so much respect for racewalkers- I couldn't have kept up with you for even a block if I'd been walking, and I don't want to even think about having my form judged!
