Race Reports/Encouragement/Kudos for March 29th and 30th!

Wow, it's like half the WISH team are out racing!

Good luck everyone and i hope you all have lots of fun :thumbsup2

Yay! I get to post the first race report of the weekend!

Thanks everyone for all of your good WISHes.

I ran the National Half Marathon in DC today.

It was cold (wind chill in the high 20s at the start), but actually good running weather. DH Matt and I found Mike (Optimator) (running the full) and DW Kathy (momoftwogirls) in the port-o-potty lines before the race. (Kathy - thanks so much for standing in line to check our gear bags for us!) We were able to chat for awhile and then made our way over to the corrals. Mike and Matt stayed up with the 8:00 minute people and I moved back to the 9:15-10:00 group.

The course was a little hilly, but much less so than I had imagined in my head from having driven the streets in the past. I did feel like there were more downhills than ups, so that was nice. I can't really tell you much about what we ran past because I don't ever seem to pay attention to that stuff. :confused3

I got a chip time of 2:01:11!!! I am thrilled!

I'm really happy with the time (its a PR of over 7 minutes) and I also really feel that I ran a good race. I think I got that "comfortably hard" thing down for the first time, at least for the first 10 miles. After that it was just plain hard and I had to push myself (especially at around 11.5 miles when I felt like I was going to pass out for a minute - luckily that passed).

I am really happy with the race!

I hope everyone else running this weekend has a great race too!

:cheer2: GREAT JOB CINDY! Congrats on the PR! :goodvibes

Keep the reports coming guys! Living vicariously through you all this weekend! ;)

WOW, Cindy!!! AWESOME job and PR!!! 7 minutes off:scared1: :scared1: !!! :jumping1: party:

My pace is twice as slow as yours, and I don't notice the stuff around me!!:lmao:

Way to GO!!! Awesome job on your PR!!! I ran a 2:01:26 a few weeks ago and I would never have called it "comfortably" hard. Just plan miserable for 2 hours. (the first minute was ok)

Congratulations! Now go celebrate!

Cindy - Fabulous time!!!! WTG. I'm glad you had a great race.

Tell Matt congrats as well. It was fun leap-frogging with him.

My race went pretty darn good as well.

Clock time was 3:41, chip time should be a couple of minutes less so this should be a PR for me by a few minutes (I was too dazed and confused at the finish to remember to shut of my Garmin).

It was great meeting up with Cindy and Matt prior to the start and yes, it was cold.

Like Cindy said, the course was alright; a little hilly but not too bad. There was a big steel grate draw bridge to go up and down at mile 19 that was no real treat, quite a few rolling hills over the last 4 or 5 miles that I didn't appreciate, and the always popular uphill to the finish line .

I didn't see too many oddities but DW Kathy (thanks so much for enduring a cold morning just to see me pass by a couple of times ) did see 2 blind people (not leading each other, thankfully), a guy juggling 5 or 6 balls as he ran, and two Navy guys running in a cardboard ship.

My highlights included being passed by the mayor of D.C. around mile 25 and some truly entertaining woman up on a balcony "singing" the Star Wars theme at the top of her lungs. It was too early for her to be drunk so I'm not sure what the deal was but it sure made me chuckle for a few blocks.

The post-race grub was pretty good. I had a couple of Starbucks iced coffees, a cup of ice cream, a nice and salty soft pretzel, and a fabulously cold beer. I think there was some other stuff but I was more than satisfied with what I got and was ready to get the hell out.

I was real happy with how everything went. I had a plan going into the race that I was able to stick with. I was able to keep running when what I wanted more than anything was to just stop. I was completely spent at the finish but now I feel REMARKABLY well. No hobbling or crying on the stairs! Tomorrow may be another story but I'm happy for today.

Good luck to everyone else running this weekend!!!!

Excellent job to Cindy and Mike! Wow! I'm also jealous of the good post race food spread you had. :rotfl:

I just got back from my Run Away With Cirque du Soleil 5K. This was the third year I have done this race. It's fun and the post race entertainment is always good. I finished with a 9:05 pace in 28:14. I am pleased with those numbers since it's my best time yet. I hope to break into 8's next time. Here's a post race pic from today, I hope that is okay. I must also add that I love my running skirt from runningskirts.com. It was perfect for today!

Myself and a few Cirque performers

Woohoo! Go, WISH team! Go, WISH team! :woohoo:

Cindy--that is excellent!

Casey! Way to go!

I'm so in awe of all the racing WISHers--I can't believe I'm going to be one of you in one more month! :scared1:

Great job guys! I love Cirque du Soleil - that looks like fun.

And good luck to all of you running tomorrow!

Great job, Mike, Cindy and Casey! :cool1:

Cindy: WTG on the PR & your "comfortably hard" pace! That's awesome! :goodvibes

Mike:  for your PR, as well! And yay for being able to stick to your plan. To my mind, every event should feature someone singing the Star Wars theme.

Casey: Another PR today. What a great weekend. Your race pic is great & I love your running skirt! :goodvibes I have no doubt you'll be seeing the 8s soon.

Good luck & woo hoo to everyone else out there this weekend!
