Yay! I get to post the first race report of the weekend!
Thanks everyone for all of your good WISHes.
I ran the National Half Marathon in DC today.
It was cold (wind chill in the high 20s at the start), but actually good running weather. DH Matt and I found Mike (Optimator) (running the full) and DW Kathy (momoftwogirls) in the port-o-potty lines before the race. (
Kathy - thanks so much for standing in line to check our gear bags for us!) We were able to chat for awhile and then made our way over to the corrals. Mike and Matt stayed up with the 8:00 minute people and I moved back to the 9:15-10:00 group.
The course was a little hilly, but much less so than I had imagined in my head from having driven the streets in the past. I did feel like there were more downhills than ups, so that was nice. I can't really tell you much about what we ran past because I don't ever seem to pay attention to that stuff.
I got a chip time of 2:01:11!!! I am thrilled!
I'm really happy with the time (its a PR of over 7 minutes) and I also really feel that I ran a good race. I think I got that "comfortably hard" thing down for the first time, at least for the first 10 miles. After that it was just plain hard and I had to push myself (especially at around 11.5 miles when I felt like I was going to pass out for a minute - luckily that passed).
I am really happy with the race!
I hope everyone else running this weekend has a great race too!
