Have fun and stay hydrated!

Public Service Announcement. ;)
Remember, no PR is worth being sick.

This is going to be my first evening run. It is just TOO HOT down here in AL to run during the daytime. :scared: I'm looking forward to it, but I'm a little askeered too. During my run on Wed., my left hip, buttock, and leg started hurting. :sad2: I know I won't get a PR, but I just want to finish with a decent time, and NOT LAST. Please send some running pixie dust my way. If I have my WISHERS behind me, I'll be fine! :thumbsup2

Good Luck to everyone else this weekend, especially you Stacie (think about how far we have come since Jan). ;) :thumbsup2

GO ALLIE!!! Sorry to hear about the left "buttocks" (Like how Forrest Gump would say) area. Hoping things go well for you and you don't hurt yourself more. Good Luck to you and hear is pixiedust: pixiedust: to help you along!!

A big shout out to Mike for doing his first 1/2 Ironman! :woohoo: :cheer2:

Allie - good luck on the night race. The ToTerror last year was my first night race and I loved it. Just watch where you're going. :teeth: :cheer2:

Cam, Angie (Go Super Goofs!), Stacie and wellesleyprincess - Good Luck with your races! :cheer2:

Here's my race report:

I haven't normally been a morning runner and so I've been getting up the past few days in order to practice. Apparently it paid off.

This course had a lot of soft hills. Nothing really big but kind of a lot of gradual change. This actually worked out really well. For some reason perfectly flat courses are just annoyingly monotonous to me. Anyway, I learned from last week and started of towards the middle of the pack to prevent the desire to take off too fast. Any way my goal had been 30 minutes based on my runs this week. I get to the first mile marker and the clock says 8:24. I think that can't be right when I run sub-9s I feel horrible but I don't now so I just keep going. Hit the second mile, the clock says 17:45. I still feel fine, so I tell the race worker your clock is wrong. He just laughs. I then hit mile three at 26 minutes and change. I normally sprint but legs are tired and I well ahead of schedule. My pacer for the last mile is a good 15 seconds ahead of me and he's a 30 something army reservist so I decide I'm not going to press it and satisfy for my happy 28 something PR. Well we've just past the 3rd mile and I sprint for a few feet and decide it ain't worth it. Then all of a sudden this slightly past middle aged man (turns out he was in his late 50s) says to me you aren't going to let an old man beat you are you. Well after that he and I both laugh and sprint for the finish line with me ending up 1 second ahead of me at 27:28. My goal for the summer had been a 28 minute 5k and this was only my second race. I cut 5 minutes off of my time from last week. It was also better than all my practice paces.
I placed 3rd in my Age Group and 89 out of 180 overall.

I wanted to add Allie, I know evening runs in AL can be tough. My suggestion is drink as much water before during and after as possible and remember the heat will affect you so don't let that affect your feelings about your performance.

wellesleyprincess, Congratulations! Sounds like a fun event and I love that you had a "race" partner at the end.

Well luckily our race wasn't during the DARK of night, but luckily the sun was going down. :thumbsup2 Although it was still HOT and NO BREEZE here in AL. They had a kids fun run first at 6:15. I got there right after they started. DS was a little late getting back from his mission trip. Then the Men had their race. Then it was time for the Ladies. I'm not sure why they separated us except that the title of the race used to be Women's Distance Festival. :confused3 Anyway, I fired up my Garmin and it couldn't find the satellites AND it said the battery was low. :headache: Note to self: when getting running gear together for a race, make sure Garmin is charged. ;) Well, we started and it was still looking for the satellites. Once we cleared the trees it found them. :thumbsup2 Well, it died on my about a half mile in, and it WASN'T coming back on. I told my running partner, that we just needed to run like we always had, and we would be fine. We did well, not great, but not bad considering the heat and my hamstring. (Some friends have determined that it was my hamstring that I hurt on Wed.) We finished in 39:20 and 39:22 respectively. And my son was actually there to see me finish. :yay: He has never seen me run before, so I was glad to have him there. :thumbsup2

I was definitely not as speedy at wellesleyprincess, but not bad for a newly 40 yo woman. :thumbsup2 I think we represented AL very well today! Thanks for all your pixie dust because my hamstring hardly bothered me at all. You all are the BEST!!!:grouphug:
