Good luck everyone.

And to all of us SuperGoofs who are racing this weekend....let's race well and have a good time.

Looks like I'm first in with a race report.....

Today I did the "Live Like Andi" 10k. This race marks the end of my winter/spring training plan, and like last year was geared towards running a "faster 10k". I picked this race because it happened to fit the timing, but I'm glad I did it. It was a benefit for Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma--the disease that killed Andi. It's not a cancer that many people know about, and one that is not being researched much at all. So a benefit like this really contributes towards groundbreaking research.

Anyway, the race started at 9:30--a nice change from the 0-dark-30 races that we all seem to run! I woke up to thunderstorms-okay, that can't be good. But fortunately, by the time I ended up at the race, the rain had let up and it held off for the whole race. Checked in, got my little bag (like the ones we got for Minnie) and shirt--they ran out of smalls so I ended up with Medium. Too bad becasue it's a tech shirt and blue, so it would have been a useful thing to have in my running wardrobe. Put my chip & bib on and headed over to the start area. Listened to the band they had, and also saw some 10 mile race finishers, as well aso some presentations--current ACC patients and families, a school choir.

My goal for this race was to better my previous PR of 51:16. Tried not to think about the 63F temp and obviously higher humidity and then off we went. Went out way too fast--did I mention I have no sense of pace and forgot my watch? Did the first mile in 7:30-ish (waaaayyy too fast). Tried to settle down and run steady. Course went through a local neighborhood and around a pond/lake. Didn't run with my belt, so took water at the first stop ~ 1.5 miles. At one point, 5k-ers went off one direction and 10k-ers another. That's when it got quiet! Not as many 10k'ers out there.

Run run run--breathe breathe breathe. Drink? Well, no more water stops til almost 5 miles! (when the 2 races converged) By then, I was ready to stop and drink the water and then resume running. I was having one of those "why do I do this, exactlY?" moments. But at least there were people around and I slogged my way to the finish, which was inside the stadium at the school where the race was held.

Finished in (chip time) 49:40. Yeah! I hit my goal! (I had already conceded that I would be happy to finish in under 52). Stretched, grabbed water, medal, the usual oranges/bananas/muffins/bagels and just recovered. No age group awards--that's okay, though I did come in 1 of 2 in my group.

So all in all, I'm happy. I did my best and today it worked out. Now it's on to the next challenge.

Great Job on the PR Maura.

I know the feeling of not having a water stop when you think there should be one. Last year in the USAF marathon 10K there was almost 2 miles between water shop in a race with 5 stops. There was one about 1 1/2, 3, 4, 6 and 6.2. The section between 4 and 6 were only traveled by the 10Ker's This year they moved the one at 6 to 5, just about the spot we were all saying "wouldn't it be nice to have a water stop around here.

Capital City Half Marathon Columbus, OH was wet, mostly flat, well supported and had good offerings after. I didn't do too badly with a 3:02 finish time and since I'm doing the "Wendy method" for my training I'm thinking this pace is ok for me. There was threats of storms so I was worried that the event would be canceled or worse, that I'd be caught out in the lightening. It rained, but no lightening. Rain was tolerable. There were 10 water/ade stops for the half with one gu offering. Plenty in my mind. The course was mostly flat and went around Ohio State U and downtown Columbus then ended along the Olentangy River. After the event there was water, Power Ade, Muscle Milk, bagels, bananas, oranges, and pizza offerings. Plenty for all to get something. All in all I think this is a good event with a pace that is good for slower participants (4 hours to finish the half).

Good luck to everyone and especially to jusacuz running Bloomsday in Spokane today. Thank goodness the rain went away! :goodvibes

Bloomsday 12k in Spokane was lovely in terms of weather this year. This was my 5th, but the first one I actually tried to run. I usually walk with the kids. DH said he'd stay behind with our 9 year old son. In fact, I was told that if I hung back with them, he'd throw rocks at me. lol. :lmao:

I also had my 14 yo son, 17 yo daughter and her boyfriend with us, but they were in a different color group than me, a "faster" one.

Anyway, I learned that if you want to get a decent time you really have to make sure you're in a earlier color group. I didn't. There are about 50,000 people who do this race and it is insanely crowded. The really high number of people who do not grasp the concept of "walkers right, runners left" and "don't walk in a line across the road" actually drove me insane this year, but I survived.

I went in hoping for under 2 hours and finished around 1:40 or so and I'm really happy with that time. Won't have final results until Tuesday. DH & son took over 3 hours to finish. Poor kid was so tired. I managed to pass the teens, too at some point but probably only because they stopped for some free food near the end. :)

I'm not sure if I'll do Bloomsday anymore. It's local and cheap, but the crowds and the early mornings (to catch a shuttle bus) are really tiring.

Unlike other races, you only get a shirt if you finish and no one knows the color or design until that day. This year, I immediately though of the WISHers when I saw that the color was lime green. :)

edited to add that my official time was posted: 1:45:11

Speaking of Columbus have you ever done the Nationwide Half? I did it in 2008 and thought it was a really good event. Flat, fast, and Oct in Columbus is usually good race weather.

I see that no one did the Pittsburgh full or half this year. I have that one on my list as one I want to do but there was a little issue this year at the finish involving a bomb (article). Someone posted about it on the Community board and I want to come here and see if we had any WISHers there.

Frank Debra's (deekaypee) DH was part of the marathon relay (I think), and she was going to be there cheering. She may have some info....

I ran my first full marathon on Saturday May 1st. I had a blast and will defintely do another, oops I am doing another (Goofy challenge 2011). I posted a race report on my blog. If you would like to read it, you can find it at http://bloomingtonrunner.blogspot.com. :cool1:

Stan Congratulations! You had difficult weather conditions and you still finished well. That's great.

See you at the DL 1/2
