Thinking about doing it now that the MNSSHP dates are up for 2007. Just trying to figure out dates for booking DVC...

Has anyone done this before or have any info to share?

I saw someone mention there is also a 5K at AK the day before? Anyone heard this or know of a link?

Thanks!

Shan, :wave2: The easiest thing is to visit disneyrunning.com. Robert has posted our race reports, as well as others, complete with pictures over there. It's a nice race, but don't expect characters..other than CM's with chef's hats on!

There was a one mile and a 5K on the Saturday before the 10K, but I don't see anything listed in the event information for this year. Hope this helps!

Hey Shan! Good to see you! I believe the 5K is Race for teh Cure. You may want to check Susan Komen.

We did the Race for the Taste last year and it was our first race ever and it was a lot of fun. Starting at WWS, running through MGM then to boardwalk, through countries in Epcot to finish. There is a 5k the day before and it is for Susan G. Komen, this year it was at AK.

I think the RFTwas great, but the best part for us was going to Epcot after and rewarding ourself at the food and wine festival.

I noticed for the first time this year they are offering discounted park tickets for that purpose.!!

Hope this helps

Angie

I did the race for the taste last year. It was great as I already had the vacation planned when I found out about the race. We stayed on property and the transportation to and from WWS was alright at best. It took about 3 hours to pick up my bib. If I were to do it again, I would figure out my transportation. I also had to take a taxi to the start in the morning. Come to think of it, the transportation was real inconvienent. Even after the race, it took an hour to catch a bus back to the hotel. If you have a car, it will be a breeze.
That was my first race through the parks and it was a thrill.
Good luck
Scott

DH did RFTT the last two years, and I've done the Komen Race for the last 3 years. They are both great races! The Komen info may not be up for a while. I checked the RFTT last night, and it said transportation on race day was only provided if you stay at Caribbean Beach AND book through Anthony Travel. If anyone is interested in going, but doesn't have a car, they might consider booking this way, or we can match up with other WISHers who have cars.

Hope to see you there! :thumbsup2

I'm signed up to do it this year and transportation was my big concern. I'm at the BWV so the finish is not a big deal, but I need to get to the start. Is a taxi the easiest?

Thanks everyone. So if we drive to WWOS and it finishes in Epcot how would we get our car back? Do they even offer bus transportation to WWOS???

I just drove my usual path I walk/run on Monday thru Friday and it is around 3.5 miles. I can do it very easily so I'm guessing working up to a 10K should be no problem. I was thinking I might should do the 5K instead, but I think I'll go for the 10K, if we can figure out lodging. I've already used up our DVC points for the year.

Thanks for the link Maherae! Perfect!

Our AP will also be out and I wasn't planning on renewing it until December so I did notice the ticket combo deal. Does anyone know if we have to use it same day as the race or can it be another day that week? I think it also said only Epcot or AK.
And where exactly does the race end?

Looks like the MNSSHP dates aren't gonna work for us to just go down a few nights without our girls. Bummer. I was thinking about maybe finally doing the Backstage Magic tour that Monday after....

We drove to WWS for start. The race ends in Epcot parking lot, they provided a bus back to WWS which we boarded very quickly and it was not hard at all to get back there.

I'm almost positive it says that you have to use the park ticket the same day and it is only for AK or Epcot.

Also if you already used all of your DVC points you may want to check out the deals that Anthony travel will offer (they aren't there yet but there will be a link on the RFT taste page) last year they offered a very reasonable rates for Caribbean beach and you can take the transporation they provide to start and then back to hotel from finish.

I used them for the upcoming Minnie Marathon to stay at Port Orleans and got a better rate than I was going to with AP discount.:)

Well that sounds easy enough Angie. Maybe we'll just look into the Caribbean package. I wonder if we can add on the DDP with that? Do you know?

You can ask but a friend of mine who is an AP checked into it one time and you had to buy park tickets in order to get the Dining plan, but it does not hurt to ask!!

I will be doing the Race for Taste for the first time this year

I think you will enjoy it was a lot of fun. :cool1:

Of course it was our first race so I might be making more out of it than it was. But it was a very good experience for us!!

I enjoyed the 1/2 marathon this year. I am so looking forward to another race at Disney.

Hi! I've entered the RFTT as I discovered it was on during an already booked holiday to WDW and it seemed like a good idea at the time! This will be the first race I've ever done so I'm very nervous but I figure we've all got to start somewhere... :yay:

RFTT was the first race we ever did, we did not know what to expect and I was very nervous:confused3

But it was so much fun, and perfect for being the first race. In fact it was so much fun that we went home the next day and signed up for the Disney Half Marathon:cool1:

The best part was going to the Food and Wine festival at epcot after the race and rewarding ourselves!!
You will have a great time

My DW and I are doing the double. We are staying at BWV and don't have a car. If anyone else is staying there, we'll share a cab!

BTW, a friend looked up the Komen on their website and it only mentioned one in St. Pete on the 6th.

My DH and I signed up and ran the RFTT in 2005--it was my suggestion. DH isn't too good with heat and humidity. Unfortunately, there was both in 2005. I ran well for me but he was not happy with his time. He said it was too hot and humid for him. He complained about his time but he finished before I did which he isn't too happy about when I point it out.

We drove to the start and the bus transport back to our cars was pretty good; they could use a bit better organization on that end but it wasn't too bad.

We enjoyed the wine tasting but was disappointed in the food part; if you live in the area it might be better but a couple of chefs cancelled out. I highly recommend the presentation by the rep from Twinnings at the British Pavilion. Great time and very civilized. I totally get afternoon tea....

If this is your first race, don't be nervous. It'll be a lot of fun and there are enough people there that you won't be running alone. First race I ever ran was so small that I was running alone for 1/2 the time and took 2 wrong turns!! But I did NOT finish last! That is my worst nightmare...

Hang in there and enjoy the race. It's the journey or something silly so they say...

Robert,

I'll be a BWV as well with out a car. Splitting a cab would be great. We'll have to hook up a little closer to October.
