Quitting = Money for a splendid Disney Vacation

Good for you, and I think it's a great idea to reward yourself, since I know how difficult quitting is.

Good for you!!!

I remember watching a show about a young woman who shopped constantly. In her closet she had over $300,000 in clothes, with $150K's worth STILL WITH TAGS ON. She could have bought a house and several new cars with what she spent. Think of all the great things you can do with the money you'll save. First WDW, next the World!!

Congrat's :cheer2: to you and all the other posters who have made such a significant and healthy change, not only for yourselves, but for those around you as well!!!

I love hearing stories like this!

Just wish DH would jump on the bandwagon!!

OMGosh!! Go for it! I'm a non-smoker, but I'm hooked on Chick-fil-A sweet tea... that crap adds up!

Good for you. :thumbsup2

Quitting is hard. I don't smoke but DH has quit 3 times. The last time seems to have stuck - it's been 4 years :woohoo: . He quit mostly for his health tho.

My Dad also quit for completely financial reasons. He got laid off from his construction job and told my mom she'd have to cut back on the groceries. She told him she'd cut back on the groceries when the cost of groceries was more than what he spent on cigarettes in a week. He quit that day. This was in 1969 - he hasn't smoked since.

Just wish DH would jump on the bandwagon!!

Me too, but at this point he says there's nothing that money could buy that he'd enjoy more than his cigarettes. :confused3 He's not a Disney junkie like me, obviously!

I quit years ago for the reason many women quit - I got pregnant with my oldest, and just never picked it up again after the baby (12 today! :scared1:) was born.

First off, congratulations on wanting to quit. it's the most difficult and the most rewarding this you will accomplish. I have been through it (many times) but this time for good. I have not smoked now for 2 years. and everytime I wanted a cigarette, I keep thinking that it would be SO easy to pick one up....but do I want to go through quitting again ? NEVER. So I never picked one up again. My motivation was the $$ but mostly it was that I had a brand new step daughter and I didn't want her growing up seeing me smoking. that was a powerful motivator.
Whatever you use as a motivator I hope it works for you. Also, my doctor put me on Chantix....it truly was a magic bullet. After 3 days I didn't want a cigarette at all. Now, it tells you to take 2 a day...I couldn't do that. it gave me HORRIBLE dreams. So I took one in the morning ( on a full stomach) and that worked fine. But that really did help me to quit. (and it also didn't make me want to snack as a substitute)
I wish you all the luck in the world . I promise you, after 1 week of not having a cigarette you will start to feel so fantastic. and smells become AMAZING and food tastes amazing. Life is just better.

I paid for our honeymoon but quitting smoking. In 6 mo I saved enough for 11 nights at all star sports and 3 nights at Old key west. 10 day park hopper tickets for me, dh and our ds. I have to admitt, I have not been able to save that money since.
Good Luck, it was an amazing feeling knowing I paid for it by quitting smoking.

Good for you!

I suggest putting at least $50 a week each in a piggy bank you can't get into and even more when you can. That way you won't be tempted to grab a little for this or that.

Of course if you're really disciplined some kind of savings would be even better. Just quitting smoking is a lot to deal with though.

I can't wait to hear about your travel plans!

woo hooo for you! :cheer2:

DH keeps saying he "wants" to quit. He was on Chantix for three months and never even cut down. He said it didn't work. :lmao:

I know you and your wife will do wonderful! Again - :cheer2:

Congratulations on your decision.

I quit about 14 years go. DH and I quit on the same day. It is the first time I tried to quit. I had smoked for about 20 years. I remember sitting at the kitchen table the night before the date and smoking our brains out. LOL At midnight - we took the remaining butts we had, cut them in half, grabbed the lighters, the ashtrays, etc and put them in the trash and took the trash outside.

At the time we took Zyban. I believe the new drug is Chantax. Or something like that. You take 1 pill a day and still smoke. On the first day of not smoking you take 2 pills/day. I remember the first morning waking up, and thinking as I drank my coffee - I would normally be smoking now - that's weird I don't have any "cravings". The physical addiction to the nicotine is out of your body in a few days. It's the mental addition that's tough. I didn't have a cocktail for a year - because I knew that would trigger me. I had previously used butts as a reward system while doing housework - I will wash 3 windows and have a cigarette. I will weed the garden and have a cigarette. All me breaks at work - had previously been spent with other smokers - out smoking. I sat in traffic a lot - so a concern to me was sitting in my car - so I had straws in the ashtray to play with. You really don't realize how much time you spend smoking.

Don't get me wrong - I still mourn the loss of my Merits. But I'm happy I'm smoke free. Just find something "else" to replace the smoking. Now when I do housework - my reward - If I do these 3 windows - I can spend 10 minutes on the Disboards!!!!

Now that I think of it - I could never had bought Disney Vacation Club if I had kept smoking!!!!
