From one Quitter to Another - WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't want to preach, but I just have to congratulate you on a VERY tough thing. I quit back in 2007 and I did a LOT of reasearch on how best to go about it and the most important little factoid that I learned was that IT IS EASIER TO QUIT DOING HEROIN THAN IT IS TO QUIT SMOKING. Wow!

Go to www.quitmeter.com - it's exactly what you are looking for.

Also, there is http://www.quitnet.com/community/talk/, a great community that really helped me. They also have a Quit Meter and they will email you every day/week/whatever to give you your stats. I still get one once a month or so with my quit date, # of cigs not smoked, $$ saved and LIFE saved.

Lastly, http://www.stqp.org/quitsmokingtimeline.asp A Timeline of what happens after you quit smoking (I posted this on my fridge the day I quit - it's still there)

If you have made it through, well, Heck Week, and survived, I think you are going to be okay. I don't know how much you smoked or for how long and what your 'triggers' are, but you can do it! Keep on keepin' on and go buy a big bag of DumDum lollipops (oral fixation + white stick = "Cigarette" for your brain. Worked for me anyway.).

(Oh, and cuz I wanna brag....
1072 days, 10728 cigarettes NOT smoked - 536 packs, 2m/21d life saved, $1650 NOT spent!):woohoo:

My Mom quit last year and has been treating herself with all the extra money.

This is something I did for myself too, kinda.

When I first quit, I would treat myself to something around $10 that wasn't disposable (not food, for instance) AND a dozen roses from The Fresh Market. These small gifts would be a way to reward myslef and REMIND myself to not smoke. I bought a pair of pants at Wal-Mart, a cute pair of sneakers, a few other things. Three years later, I still wear those pants and get a small swell of pride in knowing that I quit.

Also, a side effect? As you quit smoking, your sense of smell is repaired and I still remember the day when I walked into my house (past my dozen roses) and SMELLED them for the first time. It was amazing! I still buy myself flowers every year on my Quit Date.

(Of course, if I'd saved ALL of the $$ I didn't spend on smokes, I'd have about $1700 and coudl go on a WDW Cruise...dang it.)

Great links!

I used to have a ticker in my sig and it disappeared so now i put it back and I also love the timeline! When I first quit I spent an exorbitant amount of time looking up all the ways that my body was benefiting and recovering and stuff, I found it very helpful!

Congrats!!!!!!!

I am smoke-free for 14 years now and BOY, that was the hardest thing to do.

If you have trouble, by all means post here. There is a lot of support here.
