I read thru these threads and I am sickened by the polical bashing and name calling. It's clear who's a Democrat and who is a Republican - even tho they SAY they're not making this political! Holy smokes folks, there are people dying out there - quit whining and complaining about who's not doing what and get on your knees! This country and every politician - on both sides of the aisle - need our support to get the impossible done. America is in trouble! Every single American is needed in whatever small way we can. Dig into your pockets and pray to God for mercy.

I've been thinking the same thing. Thank you!

I can pray all day but I am still going to be angry and frustrated that citiziens of one the richest countries in the world are watching there own babies die in there arms.... I don't care if elected officials are democratic, republican or representives of Mars they need to get help to these people NOW! Bush just said on television the relief efforts are unacceptable so its not just the the people watching from the outside it is officials aswell saying that things went wrong!

People react differently to stress. Many of us are feeling lost and helpless. While I don't agree with a lot of the things being said or the way it is being approached, it's just the way some deal. Someone made a comment yesterday about ball games continuing, and I for one am a believer that we NEED those types of things to keep our spirits up. It does no one any good to wallow in the misery. Some could be aggravated by my choice to continue to find ways to joke and laugh even in the midst of all this horror, but that's MY way of dealing. Yes, we should all be pulling together and funneling that energy we have into doing something positive. Again, I don't agree with some of the choices people are making, but at the end of the day we are still blessed to be able to make those choices. I personally have tremendous faith in ALL Americans, and I think in the days ahead we really will be witnessing the strength and determination that we as a people have always exhibited in times of hardship.

If people want to discuss how things failed, and who is to blame, why do you care? Who's to say these aren't the same people donating time, money, resources AND are praying while they're doing it?

I have no issues with doing all those things if I choose to... just because I can discuss the breakdown of gov and who's to blame doesn't mean I don't do the other things.

Yes, but a lot of us want to know how things can be come like this when we are supposed to be able to be prepared for terrrorism and stuff like that! :earseek:

How organized and prepared is the system if we can't deal with natural disasters. You can get on your knees and pray all you want, but to me that isn't very pro-active.

I actually can't tell who's a Democrat and who's a Republican by their responses to this situation. Many Republicans are clearly unsatisfied by the President's response, and many Democrats are not saying that the President should be impeached because of this and that they understand why he is not landing in New Orleans.

People are angered at elected officials because of the situation down there, even though it may not be their fault.

Thank you for posting this thread! I too was sickened by the Bush bashing. Seems that since we are feeling helpless we are looking for someone to blame.

I agree completely. I've never found myself in agreement with more people who normally are opposite me in political beliefs than I have during this disaster.

There are a couple of predictable, never say die types of course,(see the post above me for an example) but for the most part, I don't see this as an issue that falls down party lines.

Even I said something nice about the President today...put that in your record books!!

Thank you! Well said...

I also agree! They need to spend less time pointing their fingers at who's fault it is and who's failing who and direct the energy on getting the job done!

We can bash Bush all he want because....this is it for him! He is lucky this wasn't his first term...

If anything I see a lot of people from both sides of the political spectrum come together and voice frustration and dismay at the same issues.

I fear that the situation is intrinsically political. We need to hold people to account so that this sorry tragedy never happens again.

Lives may depend on it.

Agree!

It is political. What you're seeing right now is the inability of elected officials to deal with a national emergency. This is what these people get paid to do. And they have failed miserably.

It is all about politics from spending 22 billion dollars on the Homeland Security Department to the lack of an adequate plan for a break in the levees. Someone hasn't done the job they were elected to do and get paid to do.

I agree with the OP. While I realize there is a political slant to every situation, there are some DISers (and you know who you are) who post the same political views in a harsh/accusatory/you must be stupid if you don't think what I think tone on EVERY THREAD. Come off it already, your posts on the DIS won't convince me to adopt your political beliefs. :badpc: :badpc: :confused3 :confused3

I came here to see what I could do to help, and I've spent two days sifting through the political bashing threads to find out where to volunteer, how to give, etc.
