Quints By Surprise

I do believe it was IUI with a sperm donor. They used the same drugs and procedures with their older daughter and there were 4-5 good follicles seen each time. It is really remote that all of them would fertilize.

None of the girls are identical.

I saw a show on them a while back. On that show the husband was a jerk and all she cared about was her designer bags. She had more Louis Vuitton than the store. He kept saying "Nobody wants Quints" or something similar. I remeber because I was horrified by his comments. I wonder what the new shows will be like.

When you're on fertility drugs, they always warn you about the chance of multiples, so why would you be surprised when the warning is there!?

Interesting. I suppose not much in life is ever a surprise when you believe awareness that it could be a small possiblilty eliminates any chance of surprise.

You could get hit by lightning. Would that be a surprise? Surely you realize it could happen, right? So by your reasoning, it won't be a surprise if it does.

Like someone else said, everyone knows what makes babies, and that birth control isn't 100%, yet there are sure a lot of "surprises" around.

If you were standing in the middle of a lightning storm, would you be surprised if you got hit by lightning? Probably not.

Therefore, if you're on fertility drugs and IUI and were told that multiple births often resulted from it, why would you be surprised if you had more than 1 baby?

Abstinence is the only 100% effective method of birth control, so since nothing else is 100%, why would you be surprised if you got pregnant? If you have sex, no matter what form of birth control you're using, you STILL run the slight risk of getting pregnant.

I haven't seen all of the 1st season, but I have heard those critiques before. But this hasn't been the case in any of the shows that I've seen. Yes, she had LV bags. But, from my understanding, he was probably making at least $200-300K a year before the quints were born and the housing market collapsed (he's a custom homebuilder). So those bags could have been bought before the quints were born. I have heard him say that nobody tries for quints and I don't think there's anything wrong with that statement. He has said plenty of times on the show that they are a blessing and that he's happy to have them.

Is anyone watching this on TLC? I actually really like them. Unlike Jon & Kate, they seem to get along really well. The babies are cute and their older daughter doesn't seem bratty. Last week, Casey (the mom) took their older daughter to DW, while Ethan (the dad) stayed home with the quints. This week, the family did a 5k trail run while pushing the babies in a 5 seater stroller! So funny and inspiring at the same time! Gotta get back in shape, too!

Yep, I watch, and I really like them, but then again I did and still do like watching Jon & Kate plus 8 (Kate plus 8.) I will say the couples relationships are very different, and yes, obviously Casey/Ethan seem to have a very strong/happy relationship. I really like Casey...she just seems to have such a good attitude about everything. Personally, I have no idea how she does it, but good for her.

Their dr should have been monitoring them by ultrasound to keep track of how many follicles she had. And if she had too many not done the IUI. I haven't actually seen the show, are any of them identical?

I have BTDT with IUI. Absolutely there are ultrasounds before insemination. First, the doctor needs to see how many follicles there are. Hyperstimulation syndrome can have serious consequences. In addition, he or she needs to monitor the follicle size so that HCG can be given to trigger ovulation at the right time. Too early or too late and the artificial insemination will not be successful. They definitely knew that there was a possibility of higher order multiples on that cycle, and proceeded anyway. We did not proceed if there were more than 3 follicles. Triplets were the most my husband and I would consider.

Unless it was a natural occurrence and not due to medical intervention, there having quinta was not a surprise!

YOu are so wrong about her attitude. Yes she had a LV, but they didn't show a whole closet full. at least from what I remember and I have watched it several times. Also so what if she did, they were making fantastic money and she was working also. It is no ones business what they spend their money on. And really, no one would want quints. Come on. Way too much money and way too many babies to care for. Even Kate said the night they found out about the sextuplets was the worst night of their life.

Also, Casey has said REPEATEDLY, that she doesn't care where they live or what type of house they live in, as long as they are together. Doesn't sound like a bad person to me.

They were making big money before the quints, so what if they spent money on things. They have downsized, and it is obvious that they love those kids.

Now that I think about it, I've only seen 2 LV bags on that show. There is 1 purse that she always carries (through last season and this season) and she has 1 duffle bag. If all she cared about was her LV bags, I'm sure she would be rotating them out with each show.

I wonder if they're doing much better financially again, since she's back with a personal trainer. Or if comp'd by TLC or the gym as a good advertisement.

Why are you getting so nasty? I stated my opinion based on the first time I saw this show which was way back. I even at the time talked about it with another person who had the same take as me. I can have my own opionion you know. It seems from the new show that they have toned it down and maybe they really are wonderful sweet people but that was not what was shown the first go around. As for saying that nobody would really want Quints because it is way too much money etc. I disagree. Of course the reality is that from a health standpoint it is a huge risk and for that I agree that it would not be ideal and not something one would wish for. However- as a Mom of 5 I don't feel that we have way too many kids. We are quite happy.

I also think, that this couple (TLC did show another multiple show with a different couple last year) is in marraige counseling, because of what happened to Jon & Kate.

Unless it was the other show that I remember, but I do remember them filimg a session with their counselor and it showed that they are not the happy couple they appear to be. I remember being uncomfortable while watching the session.

But at least they are ahead of the game and recognize the fact that they do need some help and want to work on things.

That was a different couple. Husband was hot headed and out of control! Definitely stressful with that many children all the same age...can't even imagine!!

I caught this show a few weeks ago. The dad was putting in a camera so that they could see how the babies were getting out of their cribs. He made a few comments about not being handy. At first I didn't think anything of it because a lot of guys just aren't handy around the house so I was shocked to see that he owns his own business building custom homes. Just seems a bit odd

From what I saw, I did like the show but I think that it will grow old just like J&K+8 did.

NOt nasty, I think you have the wrong show. YOur opinion is just so far off from what everyone is seeing including me, I don't think they are even raised their voice even once. NOw there was another couple that had quints and yep he was nasty and wanted a certain type of house when they moved to Florida. He was an extremely nasty man, but Ethan is just a doll. Those aren't even biologically his kids, yet he is man enough to go through with something his wife was so desperate for, not all men are.

Also ,I have 3 kids, but I darn sure didn't want triplets. There is a difference in having that many kids and having them all at once.

I guess he could just manage mostly the design and business portion of his business and still not know how to actually build it himself? He did build the wooden awning over their patio, so maybe he just thinks it's funny or endearing to say he's not handy.

YOu are free to have your opinion, I really just believe that we saw a totally different show. I also don't believe that infertility treatments causes you to have to babies you are supposed to, you are medically playing with biology and no I am not against it at all, but if we were designed to have that many, it would be that way naturally, like dogs and cats.

I have stated that they might be wonderful people but in the shows that were shown last year when they were first introduced they did not come off that way at all. They came across as self centered and were constantly bemoaning what a burden the kids were. Perhaps it was creative editing but that is exactly what was portrayed. The newer shows (this year) from what I have seen do show a more loving and fun family. So while you think they are a ball of sunshine I have a bit of skepticism because of my first intro of this family. Perhaps my opinion will change as we see more of them. I certainly hope so because my first impression left me feeling bad for them all.
