Quilting

Though admittedly I haven't done much since my 2nd child was born. I can't wait for my kids to be old enough to play in another room while I'm sewing (they're 2 and 4). Right now they're always under foot, lol!

I am an avid quilter/sewer/crafter. Glad to see a fellow quilter here!

So Jen.....how long have you been quilting? What's your favorite method? Paper piecing, applique.....do tell, please.

In fact, I am packing for my trip to the Houston International Quilt Festival as we speak! Leave tomorrow for Dallas for a few days with my SIL and the we drive down to Houston on Weds.

Am I excited - you bet! Went 2 years ago and it is pretty much the disney world of Quilting.

Want to see some of my work?

Here you go....

I actually have just started Quilting and love it! Right now I am taking a class and we are each making a Split Rail quilt! It is coming along fine, I think!! :)

Well you'll have to post some pictures. I always love seeing what others are up to.

I've been quilting for a number of years, but due to our recent house addition, haven't been doing it so much of late. Just getting by with getting my BOTM (Block of the Month) done before the next pick up date.

I like to machine quilt baby quilts. They're so easy and small. I have made 3 talking blocks baby quilts. They're like tumbling blocks but the fabric for the top of each block is a kid friendly type thing from Keepsake Quilting. Right now I'm doing a tulip tote bag that is needle turn applique and machine quilted. I made 2 of these for my son's first Sunday school teachers.

I don't know how to quilt by hand but I do have 7 quilts on my living room wall that my grandmothers made that have beautiful hand quilting. They're the first thing I would grab if I needed to get out fast (fire, flood) after my dh and ds and pictures.

As much as I sew you'd think I'd be a quilter. But most of my machine time is garment sewing. I'm actually making myself an outfit at the moment, although lately most of my sewing has been theatrical costuming.

I was just talking with my cohort in costume crime last week about this very thing. She is an international award winning quilter, books published, etc. I was wondering if it is really worth saving all the remnants I have been with the idea of making a quilt for my daughter some day. She said go for it and when I'm ready (I figure when DD is in college - only 4 years or so away) we'd get started!

I am a quilter but a relatively new one.

Denise, you do beautiful work. I see you mainly machine quilt the tops? Looks like you like applique work the best? Again, beautiful work.

Question: Does MSN allow you to host there for free? I have my stuff posted at another board, which I could link to, but it would be easier to just post like you did.

Hi everyone! I'm a quilter! We just got back from another wonderful trip to WDW last Friday. Soon I'll be making another quilted wallhanging to display some of the great pictures we took! I'll post a picture when I'm done. Here is a link to my quilting site...

My dh says that he needs to ask the Air Force for a storage unti for all my fabric, or that I should downsize some of it, but hey in 5 years I could NEED that strange little scrap!!

Add me, we have a quilting group that meets every second Friday to quilt, well actually very little quilting goes on there, mostly eating and talking, but we almost all quilt at home and show it off on our Fridays. There are about 12 of us in the group and in the 4 years we have been together there have been 9 babies born and 3 more on the way in the group. I guess that is why we we don't get much done. I am in a block of the month club at our local quilting shop and I am also working on a snake quilt for my DS6.

I've been a beginning quilter for 3 years now! LOL! I know that sounds odd, but I have found it hard to fit in the time to quilt, but I really do like it. I have only finished one quilt top and am in the process of quilting it now (as in, I have been in that process for about 2 years!). I have "almost" finished a nine patch, but again, still not quite done. Geeze! I feel like a failure!

My youngest DD heads off to college next year, maybe then....:D

Keep with it, especially since you indicate you love it. It's a good stress reliever (unless you are a perfectionist, like me).

I really do love it, although I am working on that pesky perfectionist problem!

My DH has been telling me to get back to it, as he is already seeing depression set in with the thoughts of an empty nest next year.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! You know, I think I will head upstairs to check out where I last left off! :sunny:

:Pinkbounc Can I come upstairs too instead of sitting here at work?

Actually, I was home sick yesterday and basically sat cuddled on the couch all day, working on some hand quilting off and on all day while watching tv. I'm determined to have my two wooden soldier wall hangings done and hung for this year....didn't make it last year.

Sure!! Come on down!! :Pinkbounc

Sorry to hear you didn't feel well the other day....glad you are better now!

I had a great time getting back to quilting yesterday. Thanks for the nudge! I wish I could hand quilt (or that I had the patience to even try!). I am a machine quilter and my sewing station is set up upstairs... That's why I have to haul myself upstairs evertime I want to quilt!! I crochet when I am just sitting around watching tv. I find that very relaxing.

Good luck on your wooden soldier wall hangings!
