Quietest Resort For Sleeping

I currently have reservations in April at the Swan. As I think through my plans, I realize above anything else, we need a quiet place to sleep. Activity during the day and kids running around and having a good time are not problems for us, but when it's time to go to sleep, I don't want to hear noises all night long.

We stayed at AKL on our last trip and it was fairly quiet though had a room towards just off the main entry into the hallway - lots of footsteps back and forth. Other than that, we didn't hear much going on in rooms next to us.

So, as I think through my plans, I'd like to hear from you - what resorts do you find the best (quietest) for sleeping?

I'd say you are relatively safe at any of the deluxes, Swan and Dolphin included.

At the moderates, you have people walking passed your door on the outside concrete walkway. I remember staying at Coronado Springs, and this guy kept walking from his room and passed our room to get to his friends room several doors away. I don't know what kind of shoes he was wearing, but it sounded like he was wearing horseshoes, LOL! Clip clop, clip clop...back and forth, back and forth. Needless to say, it made for a difficult sleep until he finally went to bed himself!

We've always had very quiet rooms at both the Swan and Dolphin regardless of the location!

I would say the YC and BWI were probably the two quietest rooms overall that we've ever had at WDW. Our BWI room was gardenview, so it was VERy quiet at night--although I would think that BW view could be pretty noisy.

At GF and Polynesian we had lagoon view, and could hear the boat launch coming and going day and night, plus the howls from the haunted Mansion come over the water all day and well into the night. Didn't bother us, but it did bother a friend of mine a lot when she stayed there.

At the AKL we had very quiet rooms, except we could hear the Ankole Cattle braying at night, which didn't bother us, but I'm sure would bother others.

The BC just seems to have noisy hallways, it's better if you are at the end of the hall on an upper floor.

We also had a pretty quiet stay at POFQ except the guy pulling the Radio Flyer wagon across the cobblestones at 6:00am on Sunday morning

My DH took a nap every day at the BWI. It was pritty quiet there.

Since 1994, I have enjoyed the quiet of OKW. You would never know you are in the middle of disney mania. Layed-back, on a golf course, very peaceful. I found BWV a bit hectic especially if you face the boardwalk.

We have stayed at AS,POR,CBR, CSR with no problems at any of them.

We stayed at CSR in September and at first we were in Casitas and although I loved that section...it was a little bit busy with people going to conventions. We asked to be moved to Ranchos and the first time we even saw anyone else going into their room was the day we were leaving. It was so quiet it was spooky. We don't have kids so we absolutely loved it! We have stayed at many all of the resorts and it was the best place so far for peace and quiet.

Other than an AS resort, which I hear can be noisy at times, I think they are all pretty much the same. It really depends on what room location you get, and what neighbours you get.

Go for a garden view, and try to get an upper floor at the end of a hall, and you'll be fine.

We always put "quiet location" in our room request, meaning at the moderates we do NOT want to be upgraded to a "quiet pool" view as they are not quiet! Of course the resort does not know what your neighbors will be like, but most all our locations in Mods and Deluxes have been "quiet". I do take earplugs just in case. An advantage of the window type AC's are that they provide some white noise to mask noises. CR wing room and WL woodsview were very quiet, as were POR both times and CSR. Last week at CBR we did encounter a rude neighbor who got home with kids whining about 10pm. The mom proceded to yell at the kids to be quiet. It was the mom we heard, not the kids. Though not needed, we put the AC on and put the temp control to the medium setting so it was neither warm nor cold. It covered up that rude mom! That was only 1 night ever that we have had a noise problem at a WDW resort. I hope AKL is quiet enough next month .

Wow can you believe before I read your post I already answered it in my head and said the swan of course! And then your post said you are staying at the swan. We have stayed at YC, BC, Poly, Contemp and AKL. The worst experience we ever had was a screaming baby at the Poly. It was like 7 a.m. I was so mad I didnt know whether to call the front desk but I stuck my head out the door with my pj's on no less and lo and behold right next door to us was a mom who had parked her screaming baby right out in the hall. Didnt even apologize etc. Worse there were mousekeepers in the hall saying nothing, oh gee we dont want to upset the guests , Hello take your kid down by the marina or beach etc. My 3ds were oblivious but I am a light sleeper and hear everything and once I get up I can rarely get back to sleep. Also mousekeepers start early and guess what at the swan the housekeeper didnt even show up to clean our room until 4 p.m. We did not ask for this time. I was not thrilled but I think she just started at one end of the hall and our room was almost all the way at the other end so I could see why that happened. But it was the quietest. We slept until 9:30 am. and thats late for us.

I too am a very light sleeper and I found AKL to be the best room. We never heard a sound either from the hallway or neighbors and slept fine everynight. And this was December 27-31, when the resort was quite busy. We were also on the Zebra Trail, 2nd floor, so i'm sure there was considerable traffic to get to Mara, the pool, etc., though not like the 3rd floor has I'm sure. We then moved to the GF from Dec 31- Jan 4 and every night and morning we heard our neighbors on both sides and doors slamming in the hallways (Sago Cay, 5th floor). I didn't care as much as night, but when it was a day we wanted to sleep a little later, getting up every few minutes at 6am was unpleasant. Additionally, my mom had a room on the 1st floor and she had her tv on one night around 10pm at a normal volume and the man next door started banging on her connecting door saying that it was keeping his kids up. I think the walls just might not be too soundproofed there since we went to her room many times and her tv was not loud at all (and she's 57 so she's not at the age yet where she can't hear it so she makes it loud!)

When we stayed at The Contemporary in the tower it was very noisy.

We use a "sound therapy machine", set to ocean waves...lulls the kids off to sleep, and then covers the sound of the tv, or any hallway noise.

Works so well, we use it at home too

Quietest room we've ever had was at the Boardwalk Inn (Garden View). Loved that room.
Worst rooms were at AKL and GF (heard toilets flush at all hours).

Quietest was WL, 4th floor, Courtyard view. Heavenly, even Labor Day weekend. Noisiest was AsMu -- both from the room above and the walkway outside the door. Kids running at all hours, tired people yelling to be heard and banging doors. Plus, total strangers pounding on our door because they either forgot their key or couldn't make it work. Were surprised to see me in "their" room! Never again for me, but heavy sleepers don't seem to notice! Sorry, earplugs don't work for me.

The cabins at Fort Wilderness are absolute heaven as far as peace and quiet. Love it there.

Here's another vote for the cabins at Ft. Wilderness. We have stayed at the Poly, CBR, and the Wilderness Lodge. We LOVE the cabins for many reasons and the quiet is definitely a big reason we keep returning.

Does anyone know what type store carries white noise machines? I would like to have one but have never seen one in any store.
As far as the OP question goes, sometimes it's just the luck of the draw as far as sleep goes. I've had problems at PO Riverside, ASMU, ASSP, and the BC. At PO, the problem was an adjoining room, the door shared with a room of four adults who entered their room fairly late, turned on the television, and carried on a conversation, speakly loudly to be heard over the tv.
At ASMU, it was pool noise. At ASSP it was plumbing noise and someone flinging back a shower curtain like the killer in Psycho, and at the BC, it was noise from the hall. I've also experience people skateboarding at ASSP and late arrivals who open and close drawers, etc.
I think it helps to close the bathroom door and I wonder if it's best to stay on the top floor.
