Quieter dining options?

When we ate at Shula's - looking for a quiet romantic dinner - the Dolphin was hosting an IT conference and we were next to a table of 15 IT executives on expense accounts drinking heavily (it isn't always the kids). I didn't find Yachtman quiet at all - but the wine room at California Grill was quiet. Artist's Point is often "quieter" - but there are no guarantees at Disney that the table next to you won't be populated by a drunk man, a woman with a loud nasal voice who peppers her speech liberally with four letter words, and their seven children who have been raised in a barn (although I suspect that is the absolute worst case - and frankly - not that much worst than the IT execs).

We get a drink "to go" from the lounge (or pour our own) and enjoy the quiet of our room.

You know where we had a really quiet dinner - Sci Fi. Maybe not the atmosphere you were looking for, but it seemed like all the people there were entertained enough that even the kids were quiet.

We also enjoyed our Coral Reef dinner. There were no screaming or running kids when we were there.

I know you asked about dinner, but I just wanted to let you know that quiet is one reason why I prefer my TS at lunchtime. I've found several resturaunts that are loud and bustling at dinnertime, that are much more relaxed and quiet at lunchtime-I found this with Coral Reef and Liberty Tree Tavern, for example. And while 50s Prime Time is always busy, it's much more "tolerable" at lunchtime as far as noise level.

Crisi:
One (of several) reasons why Mrs U and I ALWAYS eat at the bar at every WDW restaurant that has such an option. Away from the general mayhem (adult and kids) and thus far (we've been doing it each trip for the last 5 years) we've had relative peace and quiet!!

I take kids of my own, so eating in the bar is - well, we COULD do it, but I wouldn't. A Disney bar isn't exactly a harbor of vice, but I try and keep my kids out of bars on principle. But I'll keep it in mind - the kids WILL eventually leave home.

Another idea for relative quiet are some of the offsitelocations. Kids are in much of the Orlando area, but many resorts offer fine dining and are relatively empty or quiet - esp if you pick 'off' times.

:) I'm so greatful for all of the responses! I actually am making a chef mickeys breakfast reservation so that is all of the madness I want to get into!

Hubby daughter and I are taking an abbreviated trip next next May and we decided that we would try some sit down places for breakfast and maybe lunch or dinner... but last night we decided that we are probably only doing 2days vacay at MK and Epcot and I kindof was sad... BUT SO HAPPY WE'RE FINALLY GOING! :woohoo:

I like the idea of visiting the Boardwalk for pizza for some reason (maybe it was the wine pairing :rotfl: ) and finding a table and chillin' :cloud9: . And the WAve sounds great too (we're staying at CR).

I know in the end hubby doesn't want everymeal to be loud and busy... not too expensive but, of course the best of Disney and memorable none the less! :)

Don't count on quiet at Bistro de Paris anymore. We ate there last month. It was not an EMH late night at Epcot (which I thought would help). Oh, no. Our reservation was 8:30 pm. We went upstairs and the place was a madhouse with screaming kids everywhere. They were rolling on the floor, pulling each others' hair and so forth. The cacophony was unbelievable. I told the waiter the only thing missing was Mickey and Pluto visiting the tables.

Since they started providing kids' meals at Bistro, they have destroyed whatever romance and ambience were once available there.

We will not go back.

Quietest places we ate at were Sanaa, Yachtsmens, Artist Point, Citricos, The Wave and Jiko.

Coral Reef can be quiet depending on the time and where you get seated. Sanaa is generally quiet. Yachtsman usually is, but that can be hit or miss. My personal choice for a quiet meal, though, is Jiko. Again, it's all dependent on time and where you're sitting, but I guess I've been lucky because I've always enjoyed peace and quiet there.

Elizabeth:
Unfortunately Bistro has decided to become "kid tolerant". And that's a shame since it can result in the behavior you describe.
The nite we went I was suprised to see all the kids up there--tho that nite they were generally well behaved.

I wonder what made them decide to allow kids to order from the Chefs childrens menu???

The quietest meals I've had have been at Yachtsman, Citricos, Narcoosses, and California Grill. Honestly the quietest place I've ever eaten at was the bar right next to Yachtsman, the Crews Cup. I don't know if you can get a full meal there, but it was definitely a quiet place to have a drink and a snack. Same is true for the bar at the Boardwalk (I can't remember the name at the moment). Now the bar at the POLY, forget about it...it's a zoo.

It's funny you mention that because neighbors of ours went in October and dined at Bistro. When she was telling me about it eating in "France" I just assumed she meant Chef de France since I knew they had gotten the deluxe meal plan. Then she started telling me how they almost couldn't find it because it was upstairs. I asked her if it was Bistro and she confirmed it was. She paid OOP for it and they took their 3 kids. She picked it because she loves French food and thought it would be better than Chefs. I asked if the kids had any problems finding something to eat because I didn't think they had a kids menu. She informed that they did in fact have a kids menu. :confused3 I really thought she may have been mistaken, and they just ordered off the regular menu, but apparently I was wrong.
