The degree of sensitivity is important. I can hear fireworks from my apartment, so there isn't really a quiet place to see them.
The booms in Fantasyland are the loudest and most jarring, as well as being almost simultaneous with the light. There isn't an opportunity to prepare for the sound, and I still jump sometimes after seeing the show weekly.
When you move out to the beaches, there is a slight delay so you can be better prepared and they aren't quite as loud. Anything to muffle sound could be useful, but you would miss out on the music.
On a side note: There are fireworks during the castle show finale (they sound almost like fire crackers - lots of noise for not a lot of light)
There are also very, very loud fireworks during the Star Wars show in DHS. They are launched from the ground-level stage, so avoid that area during show time if at all possible.
