Well, we finally are officially cruising! We've waffled on this for so long, but there was a good deal on September cruises using DVC points, so we're doing the 4-day Sept. 1. :D

My question is, are there any little sitting areas or alcoves where I can sit and read/cross-stitch/play a dice game with ds that aren't on deck? I take meds that make me react to too much sun exposure and we don't want to spend all our time in the cabin. Dh and I took a RC cruise about 6 years ago, and the only sitting areas they had were in the lobbies. Just wondering if DCL is any different?

There's LOTS of places to do such things :)

There's a nice area with big cushy couches and chairs right by guest services on Deck 3. The Promenade Lounge(also Deck 3) also has areas dedicated to what you're asking for as far as gaming. However, if you are just trying to avoid being in the sun most of deck 8(the pool deck) is in the shade of Deck 9 and has lots of seating available near the outside of the ship as well, and it is enclosed from the winds with plexiglas windows, so things like cross-stitch won't get scattered everywhere. I would sometimes go up there to do some book reading while the ocean goes by.

They have a library on board where you can play games, borrow books, and read. I've wandered in there a couple of times heading back to my cabin.

Actually, deck 9 is the pool deck and it's in the shade of deck 10.

There are also some benches outside on deck 4 that are up against the outer wall of the ship and the deck is very wide, so you'd be out of the sun there also.

I liked the areas that were just off of the atrium too, but they are not just on deck 3, but also on deck 4 and deck 5. Deck 3 has the small coffee tables set up but it's also the busiest area for foot traffic.

I enjoy the area inside the Cadillac Lounge and they also have the large tinted porthole windows. I don't drink alcoholic beverages but I've enjoyed specialty coffees and soft drinks there as well as bottled water.

You could also go to Beach Blanket Buffet and sit indoors with a very large view of the ocean, but they're only available during breakfast and lunch, until 1:30 or 2, I think.

You could also go to the area just in front of the Walt Disney Theatre and near the two shops on Deck 4 forward. There's a large sitting area there with comfortable chairs

Hope that helps

This is super! :D Thanks so much for all the replies -- I'm printing them off for reference. I can hardly wait for September! ;)
