We were on the Magic last week and DS who's 18 was asked to provide photo ID to prove he was 18. It was a sea day and his photo ID was locked in the room safe and he couldn't access it. He's a young looking 18, but he is an adult. Has this happened to anyone else?

Wow, haven't heard that, but I personally think that's ok. However, the KTTW have an "A" or "M" on them. We assumed that was "adult" and "minor". The problem is your DS is still "M" for drinking, but old enough to be in the "adult" areas! Seems maybe they need to have a category for those in-between so no one has to go get their photo id!

It sounds like at some point it may have been a problem with having younger people in there, and they had cracked down on it. Hopefully it was resolved without too much trouble!

He just went back to the room. He was a little annoyed though.

He wanted to bring his passport with him to Serenity Bay and I was worried he might lose it so I told him no. No one asked him anything about age there.

Did you tell him that in 20 years, he'll be thrilled when people card him. :rotfl:

Or maybe that's just a female thing. I actually thank people when they do it - even if it's part of their standard procedures!

I got happy when I got carded for a lottery ticket last year :rotfl2: I told him one day he'd appreciate being mistaken for being younger. I don't think he quite believed me.

If he wasn't being disruptive, which I doubt he was, I think they should have given him the benefit of the doubt. The whole reason for it being adults is to provide a peaceful environment, not because anything there is inherently inappropriate for minors. I would personally have been mortified.. Sorry it happened to him.

All he needs anywhere is his KTTW card. It will indicate "A" for 21 and up, "B" for 18-20, or "M" for 17 and under. Any CM can read the card, or can scan the card for an exact birth date!

And much as it was a pain for him, I'm glad to hear that there was enforcement. This typically happens only after blatant abuses lead to complaints.

Our key to the world cards from last week had "21", on the card instead of ADULT.

Interesting....I guess we'll see what ours have in a couple weeks as we'll have a non-drinking age adult. Bottom line--it IS on the KTTW card because bar tenders are required to see the card of each person at the table even if one person is paying!

He did show his card but the CM said it needed to be photo ID. His card did indeed have a "B" on it. I think it wouldn't have bothered him as much if he hadn't seen people he knew that were younger than him in the pool with their parents. He didn't want to tell on them and get them kicked out too.

It is because of those younger kids being in the area abusing the rules that your son was carded. He should have had the CM card all of them, if they didn't in fact do it when he was gone.

The safes don't use a code,they use a card.

All of the safes on the ships have the key punch numbers now. We were happy to see that last year on the Wonder & this past January on the Magic.

I'd be glad to hear they are asking for ID to be in the adult areas. The only place I've actually seen that happen before is Palo.

And there's the key--there were people he knew were younger present, which probably resulted in complaints. I would hope that everyone was carded!

I do not understand the use of the photo IDs....unless they were concerned about the kids "shuffling" the KTTW cards to confuse the person doing the checking.

Don't understand why someone would be upset to be carded.....if someone is on the young looking side the CM has a right to ask them to see photo ID....someone who is an adult could have given their card to someone younger....photo ID would prove who he was.

I haven't cruised yet, but I can see why he was upset. He wasn't trying to do anything he wasn't allowed to do. From everything I've read about Disney cruises, you "only" need to carry your KTTW card on the ship. He showed his "proof" that he was allowed to be in the area and it still wasn't accepted.

I would understand it more if he was a young-looking 21 who was trying to buy alcohol rather than a young-looking 18 who wanted to be in the adult pool area. (Don't get me wrong, I am glad they're enforcing the rules, but he showed his KTTW card and that should have been "good enough" for this situation.) If people shuffling cards is a big issue, maybe they need to put photos or physical descriptions on the KTTW cards.

I don't think he was upset at being carded; I think he was annoyed at having to go to the room for the photo ID. Most of us don't carry our photo IDs around the ship. Guess they couldn't take the KTTW card into the Cove Cafe and scan it for the security photo.

I'm just glad to see evidence of enforcement.

I'm glad to hear they carded. Hopefully this will become a fleet-wide policy and help to keep the adult areas 18 and over. Too many people think that those rules don't apply to them, or that there kids are quiet so it doesn't matter. Disney has big ships and most of the ships are dedicated to families and kids. Three small areas are adult only and that policy needs to be enforced. If I'm in an adult area, I don't want to see kids- period. I don't care how quiet or nice their parents think they are.
