All current input appreciated!!!

  1. Drive car to Fort Wilderness, park, take internal bus to HDDR
  2. Take bus to MK, take boat to Fort Wilderness, walk to HDDR

Do the boats from MK to Fort Wilderness stop at every pebble? or do they ever do a direct non-stop ride?

How often does the internal bus run at FW? how long should I estimate to get from car park to HDDR?

I am going this Sunday, Labor Day weekend for 4:30pm check-in.

Thanks!!

I have never used the internal busses at FW so I can't comment there. But we are staying at POFQ at the end of September and will also be attending HDDR. I know our plan is to hop on the MK bus and then take the boat launch over. Fort Wilderness is the first stop once the boat leaves the MK. It takes about 15-20 to get there on the boat.

I think I am going to take the bus & boat. It seems longer in distance, but I think it may be shorter in time.... It's funny because leaving from POFQ, we will drive by FW... so it is counter-intuitive.

Bus & boat - it's more fun. The boat is now direct from MK to FW and Hoop is a very short walk from the docks. Have fun!

Thanks.

If you have a car driving is certainly faster. The internal buses(unlike park to resort buses) run in continual loops all day long, so your wait for a bus should be no more than 10 min. Since to get to HDDR you can take any of the 3 internal buses your wait should be less, depending how many others on on the bus or waiting at other stops along the way your ride would be between 3 min(no stops) and 15(stopping at every stop on the longest route).

We have done both bus and boat. Probably the car/bus route:drive: is a little quicker, but I hated stopping at all the internal stops at FW :headache: and it wasn't as scenic. When we stayed at Poly, we took the monorail to MK then the boat to FW. The kids loved the boat :boat: and luckily on our trip it didn't stop anywhere on the way--it did stop at CR and WL on the way back though.

I think the HDDR is right near the boat dock....so I would do Bus/Boat.

Besides.....I think Booze is included....might not want to drive;) :dance3:

Sorry to hijack, but have a similar question.

If you took a cab, would you be taken directly to HDDR, or would you still need to take internal busses at FW?

I believe you still need internal buses. I am about 94.3% sure:crazy: :upsidedow

Generally a cab should drop you off at Outpost, you would take a bus from there. Occasionally a gaurd might allow a taxi all the way in, but in all my years of camping I don't recall seeing a cab back by HDDR.

I decided to take the bus/boat option. It took 1 hour, 15min to get to HDDR from POFQ. It took this long, because we did not make it on the first boat going to HDDR due to long lines (everyone was going to HDDR!) at MK. We had to wait for the second boat. If we had made the first boat, we would have been there about 4:15pm, but the 2nd boat got us there about 4:45pm... which caused me stress. I was worried they would give away our table... but it turned out that HDDR has empty tables to spare at that seating. Go figure.... during free DDP too!

Next time, I will drive and take the internal bus option. I think it would have been much quicker.

We take a cab to Fort Wilderness, then the internal bus to the HDDR. This cuts travel time in half. On the way back, we take the boat to MK etc. We are not in a hurry at this point. Cab ride is around $13.00
