Are all of the parks doing “rope drop” like this now where you can go in as soon as the parking booths open?

Yes, they don't want a massive crowd of people at the front gate, so they are opening earlier than the posted time. For example, AKL unofficially has been opening about 45 minutes early.

To control the crowds they hold back the people from parking. You may arrive at the parking lot early, but the park will have lots of people in it. Where did those people come from? They arrived by Disney bus.

At Hollywood Studios people have been walking to the gate from the Speedway gas station and boardwalk areas to try to get in at the front of the line.

I'm probably the only person who takes this approach, but I go right into DinoLand USA. I'm usually the first on Dinosaur and as we travel back in time, I jump off at about an hour before rope drop. Then I can stroll over to Pandora with no wait or crowds.

left obviously but last month we had good luck getting 40 min wait time for FOP after around 2PM. it built up to 100+ prior. We rode Dinosaur. Everest 1st with low waits. But if Avatar is important, i would go there first

Im going to wholeheartedly disagree here....speed walking past a half dozen families won't have a significant impact on the wait time at all.

Just stating my experience - it all depends on what significant impact means to each person. If you get on and off 9 minutes sooner, it might mean the difeerence between a 15 minute wait or a 45 minute wait at the next attraction (like NRJ).

6 families won't equate 9 minutes...thats the point. If you want to hit NRJ with a 15 minute wait, show up to the park 9 minutes earlier rather than trying to weave through kids, ECV's and families to find 9 minutes among people who obviously arrived before you did.
