If you book your car hire through Virgin you automatically go to the fast pick up queue at Dollar.

Other rental companies also have "preferred" customer schemes. If you signed up for whichever one you are renting from, you would probably get similar quick pick-up (but you would have to check the rental company's website for details...)

Boo

Thanks everyone. Ok, update on our situation:
Found out today that we have not booked with Dollar and it is in fact Budget. Problem is they don't have a base at Sandford, so we have arranged to have the car picked up through Avis. Complicated huh?

Anyway, I rang Budget up and asked them about a "quick pick up" and they said they said they do have their own version. When I mentioned about the Avis situation they said it shouldn't be a problem and sounded quite confident. I have just been to the website, as they instructed, to sign up, and it appears you have to organise a car rental at the same time as you do this. Obviously I don't want to do this as we already have car organised. Offices are now closed so I will have to find time during work tomorrow to ring them and ask how I can get aroung this problem.

Sorry to those who found Dollar info for me, thanks for your help though.

Definetely sounds that these express lines are the way to go. Just not sure how it will work in our circumstance though as I dont know if Avis will have a express line and may end up waiting in their queue anyway. I will continue on my quest never the less.

The idea of trying to be first off the plane unfortunately will not work with us as we intend to sit at the back of the plane nearest to baby changing facitlities. We also intend wait till everyone is off the plane to pack ourselves up anyway.

One question though: Does everyone who is going to be driving the car rental car have to be present when signing in? We are a party of six adults, renting two cars, and only one of those adults wont be driving. The suggestion of one going off to get car while others wait for baggage may not work in our situation if we all have to be there. If we all went that would leave one small female to get all six suitcases :rotfl2:

Yes, you do. However, it's worth going to the car hire desk first (Level 1). If there's no queue, then deal with the car hire first before going back for the bags (Level 2). If there's a big queue, get one person to wait in line whilst the rest go for the bags.

Really good idea, will do this, if all else fails with the express line. One question though: At SANDFORD, if we leave baggage reclaim to sort the cars, without waiting for our luggage, can we definetely get back to our luggage once the cars are sorted out? I only ask because this is something you can't do at Gatwick and Heathrow and thought I ought to make sure. Don't want a holiday spent without our luggage :rotfl2:

I assume not... (not for international arrivals).

Surely you should ALL stay with the cases until you get them through customs (i.e. reclaim cases, go through customs, then someone can wait with the cases - somewhere quiet - whilst the others go for the cars).

If there was a problem with the luggage (i.e. a case or two "didn't arrive" or a problem at customs, then if that bag belonged to one of the people who went for one of the cars you would be in poo...). Ok bad things don't often happen... but it is not unknown for bags to not make flights...

Maybe UKDEB is talking about Orlando, where you have a second baggage claim? The second baggage claim, is like a domestic baggage claim (you and your bags have already cleared customs...) - it isn't a "clean" srea that you can't re-enter.

Boo

Yes, apologies - I'd missed the fact that you'd be flying into Sanford. There's no double baggage claim to worry about there.

Dear Mr xxxxxx,
Thank You for contacting Airline Network. Unfortunately we do not have the facility of taking Express Profile Numbers as this service is not included in our Contract with Dollar. Only bookings made direct through Dollar may use this service.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Thank You
