DH is trying to plan a quick trip to the World. If we book now with the 40% room-only code, can we add the dining package closer to the date? We'll be travelling in January 2011. Thanks!

Hi. You would need to make a new reservation if you decide you want the dining plan. If you are thinking you want the dining plan book the package now. If a discount comes out we would attempt to add the discount to your reservation.

Hi,

From what i read fromthe OP is that they want to buy a room only with 40% discount and add a dining plan that they are going to pay for later on.
If this is a correct assumption then you can do this just book now your room with the 40% off and then add the dining plan where you have to pay for later on.

If you want to take adventage of the free dining then it's one of both discounts not both discounts so you have to choose between the room 40% off discount or the free dining discount.

Also ...just a tip.

Depending on the resort you are looking to stay at and how many people are staying in the rome, you may want to figure out what would be a better deal.

Generally, a deluxe is better with the 40% discount
If you are staying at a value, generally the dining plan is a better deal.

Two adults counter service free dining is about $70.00
Regular free dining $82.00

So if you are saving more that that on the room...I would stick with the room discount and add dining to it.

The first part is sorta true.

You can book room only now and later change to a dining plan, but it's not an easy process.

Except in the case of annual passholders, military personnel, and DVC members staying on points, you must purchase a resort stay as well as theme park admission to purchase a dining plan. Disney still books room only reservations and package reservations on two different systems. So if you book a room only reservation and later want dining (ie: a package), then Disney would have to book a new package for you, take a brand new payment (and if you're within 45 days of travel, you would have to at the FULL cost of the package), cancel your room only reservation, and refund your money. If the discount is sold out, it can still be done, but some agents either don't know how or don't want to because they'll tell you it can't be done. So it may take a few phone calls to do it. And when you fond someone who can/will do it, it does take a while to do it because they have to go through Guest Services to get it done.

Save yourself a LOT of hassle and if you're thinking about a donong plan, book the 40% offer with room and tickets now. If you have a way of getting discounted tickets, see what the full price would be. It may be worth it to skip the ticket discount to get the dining plan. Or, the discount on tickets may be good enough to skip the dining plan and just pay for food out of pocket.

Good luck, and have a great trip! :)

Thanks everyone!!

DH booked the room last night (with the 40% off code) and we're holding on the dining plan. Since I have a very limited diet (and yes, I know Disney can do amazing things in the realm of accomidating dietary requests), we're thinking that it might be cheaper to pay OOP. Still some more research to do!!!

Side note: we're going the week of January 16, which is MLK weekend. Psycho busy at the World?

Busy? Yes.

Psycho busy? Not so much. :)

Have a great trip!

If you believe that paying oop is cheaper go that way.

If you like to have things pre-paid but still think that oop would be cheaper just put some money on a pre-paid credit card like a visa you can buy and put the money on there.....
