DH hates to fly. He is not afraid, he does not get motion sickness. He has terrible anxiety and stress (doesn't have control that kind of thing). The doctor prescribed Xanax for him. I am hoping it will help. I would love to hear what experiences others have had using this. Thanks a bunch! PS--hurry, we leave in 22 hours! :earsboy:

My dh also suffers from anxiety and stress. He is also prescribed Xanax. It worked wonders for him on our flight to Orlando.More relaxed than i thought he'd be!If it worked for my dh , who suffers from sometimes heavy stress im sure it'll work for your dh.Good Luck and have agreat vacation!!!! :earsgirl: :earsboy:

my DH :smooth: really is afraid of /hates flying. The
doctor has him take xanax before he flies- he says it
really does take the "edge" off. no side effects, no
residual ickyness (is that a word? :bitelip: ) before
me, he only flew twice in his life, now, even though
he gets a little nervous a day or so before , I have gotten
him to go on 10 air trips in the last ten years, it will
be 11 with this trip-- and 4 of those were international!

I was prescribed Xanax for anxiety/panic, and it GREATLY helps me fly. As another poster said, it takes the edge off. I am now actually able to enjoy my flights. My mind doesn't get fuzzy, I'm not zoned out...I'm just myself without the anxiety. It's a wonderful medication. Thank goodness it's there for those of us who need it.

DH & I looove our Xanax. He was prescibed it last year after a major heart event. Sometimes he gets overwhelmed with the stress of work, kids, worry, heart flutters and next thing you know he's yelling and all stressed out. He can take a Xanax and be back to normal within the hour. I take Xanax occasionally for situational anxiety (like when DS18 was hospitalized for a suicide attmept). It helps me a great deal when I go to the dentist--I have terrible panic attacks there; it's not pretty. Xanax helps me cope so I don't barf, cry, & hyperventilate.

Queen of Anxiety here! My Dr. also prescribed Xanax when I told him how worried I was about an upcoming trip a few years ago. It is the best! It doesn't make me drowsy, just takes all these butterlies out of my stomach. My anxiety was so bad (I can't believe I'm actually telling how neurotic I was), after white-knuckling the armrest on a flight from NJ to Vegas, as soon as I got off the plane, I ran to the nearest bathroom and threw up. That's how bad my anxiety was.

My first xanax flight is coming up. Can any of you tell me how much you take - how far ahead of the flight? Sounds like it does leave your system quickly which is good. Thanks.

Holly used Xanax for a few of our flights. I helps a LOT. She hasn't taken it for the last couple, just to see if she could do it.

Holly's mother flew down a few weeks ago. it was her first time in a plane for 20 years. She was VERY anxious about it. She took Xanax and was fine.

Be sure to take it 20 or 30 minutes before your flight. It takes a bit to kick in. Best to have it in full force when you take off.

I am resistant to Xanax...my brother's experiences mirror the others here, but for me it takes an hour to kick in, and in order to get any effect at all I have to take enough to knock me out. That's fine with me, though...better to sleep than to have a panic attack. I only need it for really turbulent flights. Try it before your flight because there is no way to predict the effect 100 percent.

Great stuff! It doesn't make me drowsy at all. Actually, it was prescribed for me to stop my panic attacks when driving.

I use it for flying plus occasionally for anxiety/panic attacks. It helps me a ton. I take .5 1 hour prior and the other .5 30 mins before. It does make me a little sleepy though.

I haven't flown since early 2001, my first trip flying again is May. I'm worried and anxious, but I keep trying to remind myself that the Xanax really helped.

Perfect Xanex story for you:

I am afraid of flying 30,000 feet above the Earth in a little cylindrical tube....
So I "borrowed" Xanax from a friend. On one of our trips, the plane was going UP and DOWN....It was my kids' first flight and the first time they experienced this and they were going, Wee!! It feels like we're on a roller coaster!!!

Normally, I'd be like those cartoon cats whose claws are buried deep inside a ceiling while hanging upside-down thinking I was going to die....But I replied, Oh, Yeah, just like a roller coaster, with a smile!!!!!! :teeth:
So yes, It Helps Dramatically!
Although I do have moments of clarity when I realize that I am 30,000 feet above the Earth...But then I automatically calm down. What a weird feeling :earseek:
I take one tablet an hour before flying and when we get off the plane, I am absolutely FINE and I am normally a Napper :p

I am not afraid to fly, but, boy, it sure sounds more fun on Xanex...

Seriously, I have taken Xanex and it is really great, I took it for a few weeks to get me through a rough spot and while taking it, I was fully functional and aware and CALM. You can't beat that.

work..his bottle is already packed for our may trip!! :teeth: I'll
post back and let you know tonight, and believe me, this rx has
been a vacation godsend....

Okay...I know it's past the 22 hours the original poster stated, but just could not resist sharing this xanax story even though it's nothing to do with a plane. My mother took xanax for years before she died...no, it wasn't what killed her...anyway... When I married my first husband Mom saw how major-ly stressed and freaked I was getting so on the morning of my wedding, Mom greeted me with a glass of orange juice and one of her xanax..."Take it honey...trust me, I'm your mother". So, I was a good daughter and popped one...I think they were the 25mg ones. Well, as the day progressed I felt fine...not overly mellow, but absolutely not high strung. Later that afternoon as I was getting dressed in the church here comes Mom...yep! She had another one of those xanax for me...I took it like a good daughter again. Well, as I stood in front of the minister and all of those witnesses, I looked over at my groom, noticed his boot-near (I swear that is how a local florist spells it...lol) I noticed it was several mini white carnations NOT the double white rose one I had chosen for him. It didn't even phase me. On the video later I noticed as the pastor was speaking there is a shot of me looking over and kind of sighing as if I was thinking "oh, well".

Like I said before Mom took xanax for many years...she raised 4 daughters - the last two were wild children...and when she was in hospice care she hated morphin for the pain. Her drug of choice was a xanax and a percoset...calmed her down enough to deal with the pain I guess.

Oh, well...that is my xanax story...

This is the solution to my fear of scary rides! :bounce: Take Xanax for breakfast! It seems such a waste to go all the way to FL from Seattle and be too big a coward to ride RnR and ToT. Does anyone have a spare Xanax? I'd only need one for that morning in MGM. This is like a lightbulb going off! Why didn't I think of this!?

I'd like to know if anyone has done that? I'm also too scared to ride those specific rides, yet my husband loves them. Is it possible that you can take a Xanax and ride those rides without fear? Anyone ever do it?

I take 0.25 mg (mainly before monthly meetings with my boss) and it really does not have any effect except that I stay calm and don't get mad during the meetings...when I fly I take one and it takes away the butterflies that I always get when the wierd noises happen. I would like to point out, though, that Xanax is illegal to "share". You have to have your very own prescription.
