Quick WDW trip w/3 mo. old- Yes or no? Please help!!

Tracey, thanks for your concern. Yes, my in-laws do live in Metairie, all of my husband's family lives there. They're right now in a hotel in Florida, but tomorrow they'll be moving to a condo my mom owns in South Carolina because they can't afford the hotel much longer. MIL's house had at least 4 feet of water, but it had gone down with pumping last night to about a foot or 2. Well today that 17th St. Canal, which had flooded into New Orleans yesterday, flooded into their area today-they're only a few blocks away from it. So odds are the water level in their home rose again today. Their business had about 3 feet of water in it before the levee broke yesterday, but no word on what that is like now. They own a transportation company though, so all the limos, cars, vans, etc. are flooded and ruined. SIL's house had minimal flood damage, less than a foot in their home, but there are huge holes in the roof, and since they're predicting rain there in the next few days looks like their house will get more water damage too. No word though on the rest of the family's homes yet as BIL (he's a Jeff. Parish cop) hasn't been able to get out to those areas or hear from others yet. It's so sad to have all this happening to everyone down there. But really, don't feel bad about going on your vacation, we all have to go on with our lives despite the tragedies that occur, regardless of how badly we feel about them. I know my in-laws would be thrilled to know someone can go to WDW and enjoy themselves, even though that's not an option for them at this time-they're just happy to all be together and safe.

KristiKelly, I read it on a link someone posted on these boards, but it was before Madison was born, so at least 18 months ago so I don't think I could find it now. It was an article about ear pressure on flights with babies and it said that if they sleep during the takeoff/landing then their ears don't adjust to the pressure, it just all builds up. So then when you land there's all this pressure in their ears and they're in a lot of pain. It said to definitely nurse/bottle feed them during both takeoff and landing to make them suck, which relieves the pressure or if they won't eat then give them a pacifier, or water, juice, etc. Well Madison was too young for water/juice then so I gave her a pacifier, but on the flight where she slept she refused the pacifier too so I was really nervous about her ears but she was okay. (About the water, her dr told us right before we went to Disney not to give her water at all since she was breastfed, that too much water in a baby's system can dilute their blood and kill them! That scared me enough to not give her any water on the trip, but she did say about an ounce/day would be alright if she was really sweaty, but breastmilk was preferable.)

Jackson4, I'm glad that you all had such a good time. That's reassuring for me since we'll be leaving 9/24 with DS8, DD5 & DD3 monthes. I do have 2 questions: Where did you buy the clip on fan? Are they available @ Target, Walmart or Kmart? Also, you said that you flew down? Did it bother either of your DD's ears? We haven't flown since our DS was 2 and he had tubes at the time so he wasn't bothered by the pressure. I plan on buying some gum for DS & DD to chew on and BF DD3 monthes during take off and landing. I was just wondering what you did, if anything, for both of your children.

I bought the clip on fan online through One Step Ahead http://www.onestepahead.com/shopping/search/resultsmain.jsp?SelectCat=0&sSearch=fan
We did forget the fan one day and bought one of the fans at Disney for $17.00 (a little pricey) & hung that on the tray of the stroller & it was at the perfect angle to cool out little one off
The plane didn't really bother my 2 girls, I did buy gum too. My 3 year old did complain a little when we were landing (the novelty of the gum had worn off) so I gave her a few sips of water and she was fine, my 3 month old was asleep during takeoff, most of the way and once she woke up it was time for her to eat, so I BF too. Good luck & have fun!!!

Tracey1974, Did you take your trip and if so how was it?? We got back Sat., Mary Grace turned 3 mo. while there. She did as well as a baby could possibly do. She only cried if she was hungry, wet, or tired. It was hot but she loves hot weather. She only got sweaty 2 times the entire week. I used the baby care centers often. Just wondering how your trip went.

Hi Kristi! :wave2:

Just got back yesterday and what a trip! I will be doing a report hopefully later on today. Christopher did very well- just wish I could say the same about our brand new car. Have to go to the claims adjusters this morning..... :rolleyes1

Can't wait to upload some pix!

I'm sorry about your car but I'm glad you had a good trip. Can't wait to see your pics.

Hey Kristi!
Just posted some trip stuff on the reports board. How was your trip?

i'd go in a heartbeat. 3 mo is still pretty easy (and my kids weren't easy kids *at all*).

let's assume that he's not sleeping through the night, doesn't like the stroller/carseat etc etc. personally, i think all of it would be doable. the only very challenging thing, if a baby doesn't like the carseat, is the drive itself.

if breastfeeding goes as you hope (and i hope it does....i didn't like it * at all*, but i still 'stuck it out' for 4.5 y and 4 y b/c of the health benefits for me and the kids) it's soooo easy breezy to nurse with the baby in a sling in public, or in the baby stations or on a bench. if breastfeeding doesn't go so well, or you're moving toward bottles, it's a little more schleping, but nothing unmanageable...just make sure the formula is properly mixed with the water. it's suprising how many moms think it's okay to put the powder in first, then fill to the 6 oz line...when in fact the water needs to be added first, then the powder otherwise it's too strong a mixture. there are so many ways to accomplish that though.

if he doesn't like the stroller, you can use a baby bjorn or a sling or both (i liked having a couple of options:)) hopefully he'll like his stroller though...and if it's hot, you can get those fans that clip on to the sides of the strollers. they're fabulous. i would recommend the stroller w/o the carseat if he likes it. it's a little roomier and thus, less hot.

if he's not sleeping through the night, well...i don't see that that's any big thing either. one of my kids didn't sleep through the night till, well, till 4y 3m and we traveled alot in spite of it;)

i heartly, strongly recommend the _Happiest Baby on the Block_ DVD (way better than the book). and _The No-Cry Sleep Solution_ to get things on track in that department. I do lots of post partum doula work and those are my favorites of everything that's currently available. They're both just fabulous resources.

Your original message was written some time ago i just noticed......hope all is well:)
