Quick survey for those in the US - please help me test out an interesting theory

1. 4 blocks (3/4 mile)
2. Missouri
3. Missouri

My DD read/heard something rather interesting and I though the DIS would be a great place to test it out. Please answer the following questions WITHOUT reading any of the responses first. This is the one time it is a GOOD thing to poast before reading all the replies. :) Once enough people have replied, I'll come back with the hypothesis and whether or not it seems to have proven correct:

1 - How far is the closest grocery store from your house?
2 - What state do lyou live in (if you are not comfortable posting this information, you can just give the part of the county you live in)
3 - What state or part of the country have you lived in for most of your life?

Thanks!

1. Less than a mile (a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market)
2. Texas
3. The Southern part (Oklahoma & Texas)

Ah! Interesting experiment! :thumbsup2

I do actually speak in terms of time for my daily commute (An hour each way in normal traffic), but only because it SUCKS up so much of my day, so time is more noteworthy than distance.) ;)
Otherwise, I use units of distance.

1. It depends on what you consider to be a grocery store. Maybe 2 miles. But it's in a direction I never go, and down bad roads, and has higher prices. The nearest in any direction I'd actually go is 6.5 miles, although there's one 5 miles away along one of those routes that I don't consider to be a grocery store, even though they sell groceries.

2. Oklahoma

3. Oklahoma

1 - How far is the closest grocery store from your house?

1/2 a mile

2 - What state do you live in (if you are not comfortable posting this information, you can just give the part of the county you live in)

Massachusetts

3 - What state or part of the country have you lived in for most of your life?

Massachusetts (with 5 years in upstate NY)

Edit now that I read the theory... I almost gave it in time but since when most people ask how far they want distance I used google maps to look it up... My initial answer was 15 min if I'm walking....

1. Less than a mile
2. TX
3. TX

1) Closest grocery store to us is 2 miles south (Wal-Mart Super Center - which we avoid like the plague)or 3 miles north (Publix - which is a small, older one). Most of our grocery shopping is done at a Super Target that is more like 5 miles away from home, but is on our way home from work.

2) Florida

3) Florida

I am a Northerner, and reply in minutes if it's somewhere more than a walk away. Inside a mile (an easy walk), I say inside a mile. Outside of that walking-distance, I have NO idea how many miles away things are. If you'd asked how close our library is, for instance, I would have answered in minutes. Nearest park= less than a mile. Closest relative=20 minutes away. DH's commute=20 minutes. The girls' dance studios=25 minutes away and an hour away (our side of the city, other side of the city).

The closest grocery store is about 1.25 miles.
I live in Massachusetts
Sadly, I have lived in the relatively same area all of my life, although I do have aspirations of heading south at some point.
