Hi!
I hope it's okay to post this here - if not, please let me know. My daughter is doing a project for school. She decided to focus on autoimmune diseases. If you have a couple of minutes, please consider taking her survey so she can collect data.
Thanks!
THE BACKGROUND
I recently wrote a research paper that was about an autoimmune disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis. I focused on that disease because many of my family members are effected by it. This made me think about everyone else who has an autoimmune disease. I wanted to show people that everyone is connected and people care about each other. So, I want to begin a social interaction/art project. It is based on an essay called the Spoon Theory © . This essay described how it felt to live with a long term, debilitating and often invisible disease. The author used spoons to illustrate how quickly energy is lost during the day with an autoimmune disease.
I've decided to do an installation art piece that demonstrates what the author was trying to say in the Spoon Theory © . I am going to call my project the Spoon Connection. Using a series of colored spoons, I will be creating a 3 dimensional display which shows how people are affected by these diseases either themselves or people they know.
Participating is easy! All you have to do is answer a few simple questions, which shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. I will take that information and integrate it into the Spoon Connection display. Keep in mind you do not have to include your name or any other identifying information if you participate.
TO PARTICPATE
STEP ONE: Please take a few minutes and read the Spoon Theory © . This will allow you to
STEP TWO: If you are not familiar with autoimmune diseases, please visit http://www.squidoo.com/list_of_autoimmune_diseases. This page provides a comprehensive list of the types of issues covered in this experiment.
STEP THREE: Please go online to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/N22J5PJ to complete a short survey.
STEP FOUR: Pass this on to anyone you think would be interested in participating in this experiment.
STEP FIVE: If you would like to see the finished art piece sometime in the Spring, please send me an email so I will be able to send you photos.
I would like to gather all of the data from the surveys by December 6, 2010.
If you have any questions, you can send me a PM.
