Tried searching but couldn't find any clear explanation, so I figured I would ask the EXPERTS

Could someone please explain how the current offer of Developer Points works?? From what I gather, if we bought into SS or AKL before 2/18/2008, we would receive a per point discount plus Developer Points. What is the deal with Developer points?? Do they have to be used by a certain time?? Only good for home resort etc etc...any info would be greatly appreciated.

They can be used for any resort, but have to be used within 12 months and can only be booked at the 7-month mark (i.e., do not get home resort advantage).

Yes thats right if you buy 225points then you would get the discount and then the developer oints to if you are referred by a DVC member.
If you need a referral let me know.

225 pt minimum purchase
$96 per point net ($104 - $8 incentive) at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas
$94 per point net ($104 - $10 incentive) at Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
One-time bonus of 160 Developer's Points

Think of the developer points as a one time "hook" to get you to buy into DVC. If you are planning a 2008 WDW trip and you do not need the 11 month booking advantage, then the developer points can we a great deal as you could then bank your current year points into next year.

On the other hand if you are thinking of combining the developer points with your current year points to book a grand villa or 2 bdrm villa, then you maybe disappointed because the lack of the 11 month booking window with the developer points may preclude you from being able to book those larger villas.

It all comes down to whether or not the developer points have any value....to you and you alone !!!!

Please see the attached cut and paste I saw on DVC News web site about the current promotion that is being offered. Looks like the initial thresh hold is lower?? If so, that would make the deal pretty cool....now it's time to hope for a Fed rate cut tomorrow!!

DVC has announced that the current promotional offers will end on February 18, 2008. Additionally, they have also lowered the purchase threshold which permits new members to obtain some bonus points!

For the past several months, DVC has been running a promotion whereby new owners purchasing a minimum of 225 points at either the Animal Kingdom Villas or Saratoga Springs would receive a cash discount as well as a set of Developer's Points. The only catch was that the new member must provide the name of a current DVC member as a referral at the time of purchase.

Today DVC tweaked the offer, lowering the purchase threshold for obtaining the bonus points. Now new members need purchase only 160 vacation club points in order to receive a set of bonus points. With a purchase of 160 points and a referral from a current DVC member, new owners will receive the cash discount as well as 100 Developer's Points.

The current promotional offers are as follows:

New Member WITHOUT Referral

160 pt minimum purchase
