My DD is going to her senior prom this Friday. After getting the dress, shoes, jewelry, stockings and buying the ticket, all is set......or so we thought. DD had decided months ago to go "Stag" to the prom, so they got 6 friends(5girls&1guy--one is a "couple", but all are good friends) together to rent a limo.
Now the question of flowers comes up...on Wednesday night before the prom! (personally I hadn't even thought of this.....cause it's the guy thing! ooops!
So, should she wear one....without a date?? Should I buy her one?? What about the other girls?? Should I just go to the store on Friday and pick up 4 corsages just for the single girls? (I am assuming that the one girl going with a date...that he will provide one for her....or should I not assume that?)
They are all coming to my home on Friday at 6...to catch the limo.
Hoping all you knowledgeable DISers out there can help....
Thanks......I'm a little confused!!
This is the 1st and last prom(I think)!!!

If you want to buy her one, I think that would be nice. :)

Can you call the other girls mothers and find out what they have planned?

I would go ahead and get them all one of their own, you can't be too sure and don't want to have hurt feelings. Worst comes to worse, you get one of your very own for that night!

:D

My DD 17 doesn't really care for corsages...prefers the wrist ones if any. I can undersand your confusion... especially since this is a "group" thing and not a "date". Can you touch base with the other moms? I think it would be nice if the parents gave the "single" girls the corsages. I do think the flowers add such a nice touch to a special/formal evening.....

Around here, even the floral dept at the supermarket can do crosages pretty quickly...but you'd need to know the dress color schemes/preferences if you get them for all of the girls...........

Good luck, wishing your DD a good time :)

It sure would be nice. I would check with the other moms too if you feel close enough to them.

I think it would be a wonderful gesture for you to do that!

I agree about the wristlets though, especially if any of the girls are wearing strapless dresses. Wristlets are just more practical :)

Check witht he other moms and see what they're doing, if anything.

I do think it would be a nice gesture though.

And good for your daughter for not sitting home moping!!!!

Yup, check with the other moms and see if they have something planned for their daughter. I would get your own daughter a wrist coursage matching her dress and if she doesn't want to use it to the dance, she will be able to use it while you take pictures of her and her friends. Hope they all have a great time.

Well, while watching AI tonight DD and I chatted about the gals dress colors. I've got everything from my DD's black with pink trim, pinkish purple, cobalt blue, black & white and a periwinkle thrown in there with these 5 gals! UGH!!!
She said she'll ask all the girls tomorrow at school about the flowers and if they just want me to pick them up or if they have already made plans for them.
And DD said....Yes...the Ones for the wrist Mom...not the kind you pin on a dress...we don't want to look like a bunch of dorks! (hey....what do I know...I'm only a mom and it's been many many years since I went to a prom!!!)

NHAnn-....yes I am going to Stop n' Shop and/or Shaw's in the morning with her, after she takes her Last final exam. I'm sure it will be cheaper on me too!
The group thing is a great idea around here...lots of kids are doing the same. They have a great "Celebration" party after the prom from 11pm till 5am where they do all kinds of activites...palm reading...wear Velcro suits and jumping onto a wall(?) dancing...all kinds of food and prizes galore!(last year they gave away 2 laptops and 2 desktops...plus cash prizes also...all donated by the community!)And yes I am going to Stop n' Shop and/or Shaw's in the morning with her, after she takes her Last final exam. I'm sure it will be cheaper on me too!
And the parent prom committee calls you if they want to leave before 5am...otherwise they bus them back to the school and parents pick up is 5:30AM and at least we know they are safe!

Thanks for all the tips on the flowers....just pray for no rain from 5-6pm so we can do pictures at the beach!!! ::yes::

I know Pop Daddy.......Long Post!!! :teeth:

We did that my sophomore year and my dad bought me a corsage.
He did my senior year as well

i went to my prom alone junior year and actually made my own corsage ( i was tazking a floral class and got free flowers!)

A new spin on the old wrist corsage which most will have...see if someone can make a bracelet of small roses. It is looser and much different. I didn't like the tight elastic and it broke on me. The band didn't match and was rather big on my wrist. A bracelet of roses is soooo pretty, my friend had one, she was the only girl with it and we were so jealous.

Another quick suggestion:

My son went to his prom about 3 weeks ago and the hot thing is a "prom bouquet", a smaller version of a hand held bouquet. At least that's what all the girls in his group (10 of them) wanted. I had also suggested a wrist corsage, but my son nixed that. I guess the girls must just leave them on the table when they dance.

Hey, how should I know? My prom was what, 1977??

I was just going to say that. DD went to the Sophomore Semi 4 weeks ago, and that's what everyone had. DD's was 3 roses, some baby's breath and greens.

Altho I can't quite picture the wrist BRACELET, it sounds really nice too!

The florist can probably guide you in the direction of what's most "in" in your particular area.

Hope they all have a wonderful time!
