We're just back from 10 days in Anaheim (and 7 days in the parks). I'm posting a few notes about the parks, and will try to post a full trip report in the other forum later this week.

1. Special ticket lines for longer tickets no longer being utilized. I've seen this change reported elsewhere, and we can confirm that they changed this on the 8th (or 9th). I spoke to a few CMs who confirmed what we saw: that people were unhappy with the special (and sometimes slower) treatment in the segregated lines. We did not notice the special lines as slower, but we were always within the first few families in line.

The new procedure was pretty flawless. CMs walked the lines to ensure tickets were signed, and that everyone had the appropriate ID. Once we hit the gates, we found it no slower than in previous years.

2. Monorail slides/pool closed at the DLH. We didn't see this one on the boards before we left, and our kids were initially a bit disappointed (though this didn't last long, there was so much else to do). A CM told us that there was no completion date available, but that we could use any of the other DL hotel pools. To use the GCH pools they instructed us to take our room keys too the front desk of that hotel (we didn't get a chance to use the other pools, however).

3. The parks were much slower than we expected. We walked onto most rides for our entire stay, with the exception of the peak periods on Saturday/Monday on the long weekend (and Fastpasses sufficed on those days). We rode RSR a few times each day (wide right worked well enough), and nothing else was especially backed up.

4. Park opening procedures (in general) seemed less organized. We found it odd that park opening was vastly different each day. This was compounded by the initial confusion of the changed extended pass procedure, and the ongoing confusion guests have with Early Entry vs. Magic Mornings. We even saw a countdown at DCA (one of the 4 mornings we were there). Rope drops differed daily, and there seemed to be more confusion in the gate lines due to poorly/incorrectly marked gates. Many lines were closed/merged at opening, resulting in a number of visibly angry guests. We had never seen this before, and we assumed that the changing procedures were causing the Cast Members some amount of disarray.

Overall, though, we found the gates and rope drops were reasonable enough even with the confusion. The CMs were helpful and fair, even if guests were unhappy. I'm guessing that early mornings aren't the best time for anyone ;-)

5. BTM looked like it needed some TLC. While the Fastpass refurb completed early this week, the ride itself was down much of our time in the DL park. We noticed a number of patches to the tracks (some cable holding the end portion of the track together), and many surfaces clearly need work. A few of the effects were down too, so this Winter's rework is timely.

We also noticed that Splash was down more than usual, but a few cooler days made it a much less important part of our trip. I'm guessing that Splash will be up for refurb in the next year or two, as it also needs some paint/cleanup.

Space Mountain was also down for extended periods (and the cameras were down for our last few days). It was otherwise in great condition, and we rode this many times (it's my fav).

We spoke to a number of CMs who confirmed the expected Innoventions work. One CM (at the hotel) suggested he had heard that it was scheduled to be shut down permanently in the new year, but after that no firm plans had been made. Walking through Innoventions, it was clear that it is ready for something (many broken exhibits).

6. DLH thoughts. I have to say that the DLH was much better than expected. Combining the huge, pristine rooms (extra couch/bed, double sinks, and separate toilet) with the amazing service, I don't think we'll ever stay offsite again. Our only complaint was that the food at the Tangora Terrace was some of the worst we've experienced at any DL counter service. Trader Sam's (and Steakhouse 55), on the other hand were both superb.

Food overall was much improved over a few years ago. I'll try to focus my trip report on the food and DLH, as they're things I wanted to know before we left.

7. Fastpass enforcement. We didn't see any Fastpass end time enforcement on our trip for us or anyone else, and we used a number of our passes after the end time (due to parades, a sick kid, meals, etc.). We also asked a two different CMs about it, and they said that they had not been told to enforce end times, and that they hadn't heard about it coming up. These CMs may not have been allowed to talk about it or they may have just not heard about it. One CM manager we spoke to (at the DLH bar) had heard about enforcement, but had no details (he did suggest that he thought they should be enforced personally, but only because it was more fair overall).

FYI

Trader Sams food is all prepared at Tangora Terrace. The only real differance between food at both locations is certain items on the Trader Sams menu are not on the Tangora Terrace menu.

Thanks for taking the time to share these observations. I'm eagerly looking forward to our April trip and like to hear that things are getting better despite Carsland's immense popularity. I am dismayed to hear about the less than smooth morning entry experiences, though. Seems so unprofessional and unusual to STILL be having problems at park opening.

being as you stayed onsite you probably didn't do this but I will ask just in case. Did you go to DCA at opening on a non EMH day? And if so did wide right work well for that? I figure you probably went to DL for MM on days CL wasn't having EMH but just incase I wanted to ask.

And a question you may have knowledge of is how long are the lines for the CL rides when the parks opens for everyone on an EMH day? Meaning if we go to CL at normal opening on an EMH day (we are staying off site this trip) and head straight to CL, how long a wait would we have from what you saw? Is it worth us trying that on an EMH day since we don't have an EMH pass ?

I'm also curious as to wether you went to DL on a MM/EE day and what your experience was with that. Did you get alot accomplished at your MM or EE hour?

Thanks for sharing your observations!

Yeah, we started every day at whichever park had EMH as the advantage is so huge. I was curious too what entry would be like at the other park, but we didn't find a reason to try it.

The CL lines were pretty reasonable on the EMH days. We didn't run or push our way to RSR, and we were always within the first few cars. The other CL rides had waits of less than 10min throughout the EMH days (and often throughout the rest of the day. We also found that RSR was reasonable through EMH (5 min, 20 min, 45min if you rode it over and over).

At normal opening I would guess that RSR would have a 45min-1hr wait, but after that we moved on to Screamin or Soarin ;-) It may be worth trying for a Fastpass on a non-EMH entry day, though we never bothered as the lines there looked like 30-45 min minimum.

As our stay fell on a weekend and we took Sunday off, we had three DL EMH mornings. As we (I) love the dark rides, we headed for Fantasy Land each of those days, and rode each of the dark rides a few times before the hour was up. I think our best day had 7 or 8 rides before the hour was up, the worst was 5.

After the EMH we headed off to Space Mountain, walking on it a few times (and grabbing Fastpasses for later). As BTM and SM were down on and off, we hit those after that. Really, we had very few waits (nothing longer than 25 minutes).

FWIW our strategy is mostly opportunistic: we hit the busiest things first, and ride whatever else happens to have a short wait. We only grab Fastpasses when they're nearby, and otherwise we just wander around and have fun. I doubt that this strategy works in the Summer, but in the Fall it was super duper.

We noticed that, but found that the breakfast items were especially bad for the price. FWIW, Steakhouse 55 was a much better breakfast value.

I suspect that Trader Sam's food seemed a lot better than it really was (something to do with large rum-filled beverages), and that the Tangora breakfasts weren't nearly as bad as they seemed (we just don't eat greasy breakfasts often).

It wasn't bad by any measure, but it did seem much less organized than a few years ago. I think that the new California Adventure and RSR popularity is stretching that park's procedures a bit. Combine that with the mess of multi day passes (and Disney scrambling to find a better way to handle it), things were in the midst of changing before our eyes.

I have to say that despite any chaos, the CMs were at the top of their game. They spent an extra amount of time with the guests in line, explaining how things were changing, and making the best of it. I really enjoyed the openings, even though they were different every day.

Thanks. This is encouraging. Can I ask what time you arrived at the gates for your DL EMH days?

We left our room about an hour before EMH, so we hit the security line about 45 min before opening. On the early openings on the weekend we were first in line by 10-15 minutes. On the later openings we were the 3rd or 4th family in the security line. On both types of days, for both parks, we hit the gates as the first or second family. This allowed us to walk into the parks casually and still hit the major lines as one of the first half dozen families.

We did see a number of families running and pushing their way once through the gates, but it didn't really buy them much more than the CMs (and guests) rolling their eyes. Practically speaking, rushing only buys a few minutes of savings at best, and then you would miss out on the lovely ambiance of each park.

We aren't fans of the TT breakfast either. Had breakfast there once right after it opened and haven't been back for breakfats again. Steakhouse 55 has one of the best breakfasts on property, IMHO. It just takes too much time in the morning to justify eating there mutiple times.

How I long for the Monorail Cafe!!!!!
