So, DH and I were just sitting her talking and are kicking around the possibility of taking a quickie getaway on the 5th or the 6th. With all the stresses surrounding DD18 (take a look at my DD Drama post), we feel it would be a great idea to get away from it all until she comes home next week from her dreaded beach trip.

So, we were kicking around either going to Key West or back to Orlando for three or four nights. We're just planning on lounging by the pools and doing some nice dinners. I was just in Orlando in April before my cruise, but I LOVE anything Disney! We've never been to Key West, but my research is leaving me little to choose from budget wise.

Any suggestions?

ETA: I can spend four nights at Disney's Pop Century compared to three nights in Key West.

Disney- and enjoy yourselves!!

I vote for Pop Century at Disney.. You definitely need a break and Pop is so whimsical and lively, I think that atmosphere would be good for you right now.. You wouldn't even have to do the parks if you don't want that added expense - lots of other great things to see and do in that area (or further out if you will have your own car or a rental)..

You both need this.. Go for it!

I say Disney.

I'd go to Key West for longer than that and take advantage of some of the great things to do down there, to me it's a trip that needs more planning than a fly away vacation!!

POP! You can lounge by the big pool and watch all the other parents struggle with their kids, and think to yourselve's "at least for this night, that is not us."

I love this idea!! I LOVED Pop Century when I stayed there in April!!! DH didn't get to go, so it would be a new experience for him.

We won't be doing any parks...just lounging by the pools during the day and hitting Downtown Disney in the evening. Any other ideas for things to do in the evenings??

Thanks for the replies!!!

Wherever you are, at dusk, ask a CM where you can see fireworks from. It is fun to join in with what other people are watching from a mile or so away.

I love Downtown Disney at night with the lgihts, walk around down there for a night.

Maybe a fancy dinner at one of the resort restaurants, too? California Grill or Ohana and you could watch Wishes while you eat. :wizard:

Of course Disney would be my first choice...but DH just mentioned to me that prices on Enchantment of the Seas out of Ft Lauderdale dropped $500 per person for a balcony, some sort of Tuesday special. :thumbsup2

I like the Boardwalk in the evening at WDW too, as a place to stroll around, do a little shopping, maybe get an ice cream,w atch the street performers. If you're into Princess Diana, I think there is some sort of exhibit about her life at DTD, in the old Virgin Megastore space. We also like the "Monorail Hotel Tour"...ride the monorail and get off at every hotel on the line, have a look around, do a little shopping....

Hey! I responded to your other thread..hope it gets better sooner rather than later.

Last year dh and I went and did Carribean Beach. We had a wonderful 4 days. People watching, lounging and eating. We did a few things but mostly just did whatever we wanted. And you know what...it was the actually the first 'vacation' we have had in years. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get away from the stress of the 'real' world!

I just booked a quick getaway for DH and me to Key West for a little later in July. Key West is his happy place and he has been under a lot of different stress lately. So I thought this would be a good idea and he agrees. It will be my early 30th anniversary gift to him. He already said we are going to Disney next year for our 30th.

Good luck with your planning!

After everything you have been going through I think you deserve a break!! Go and enjoy yourself!! I have never been to the Keys so I would opt to do that for something different!
