Hi -

We currently are not owners but I see some smaller contracts out there on the resale market. I also just read on allears.net that the min purchase is 160. Does that mean we can't purchase say a 100 point contract on the resale market and have that as our only contract?

TIA

The 160 pt. min purchase is for direct buyers. You can own whatever number of point contract you can find on the resale market and that be your only one.

The minimum hasn't been 160 for a good long while. Some guides will quote a minimum of 100, but they'll sell 50 to a new member.

You can purchase any size resale.

I didn't realize you could buy less than 160 direct even if you were new. Hmm. This helpse out a lot actually since we want to purchase a few points direct in decembwr but haven't been able to pass rofr on a used contract. Thank you!

If you plan to buy resale and direct, get the resale done first. It's much easier to add on than trying to find a resale to match your direct UY.

I'd strongly second this plan.

Yes! the plan is to buy used and then add on new.... just have to find a used contract that meets my requirements & that i can snag fast enough. :)

If you already own resale, then you can purchase direct for a minimum of 25, not 50.

I researched DVC a few years ago and recall there was some discussion of Disney possibly limiting the benefits of resale contracts. One I specifically recall was the possibility that DVC members who didn't purchase direct would not be eligible for some benefits, like AP discounts. Did anything ever come of those rumors or do resale DVC members get all the same benefits as those who buy direct?

Folks who buy resale only are no longer members but owners.

As of 2011, resale owners can book DVC resorts and RCI resorts but cannot book Disney Collection (Disney Hotels/Cruises/ABD). As of 2016, resale owners do not qualify for Member Extras such as AP discounts, access to the Member Lounge, invitation to Member Events, etc.

The work up to the 2016 changes also replaced the DVC "Member" Card. All new cards carry an expiration date. Direct owners get a Blue Card with all benefits; Resale owners can print their own "plain" card from the website -- but it doesn't qualify for much.
