We are going to my cousin's house tomorrow to take the kids trick or treating together.
We are going to head out when it comes dark, but will be there before so wanted to bring over a quick dinner-nothing really fancy and sit down, but something other then pizza, hot dogs, and sandwiches.... any ideas?
I will be making Black and Orange Spook Cups and maybe a Great Pumpkin Cake for dessert.

We've always have chili for events like this! It heats up easily, and, if you make too much, it is great for leftovers and to freeze!

We just finished making ours, and are ready to go trick or treating!

Well, we're just doing hot dogs, but I would recommend anything in the crock pot, such as the chili clh2 recommended, or beef stew or pot roast. Warm and filling is good--even though tomorrow looks reasonably warm in the Northeast, some costumes are skimpy and it'll be after dark.

Chili and hot dogs sound like a good combo. I'm not sure how many people will be there, but that along with a salad, rice, and rolls or such should be good.
Thank you
More ideas are welcomed, just in case I don't make the chili.

The Feasty Boys were on GMA this morning. They prepared Beans and Halloweenies. I'm going start it this evening for tomorrow night's sup (I'll cook it tomorrow night).

Ingredients
8 all-beef hot dogs
1/2 lb. ground beef
8 oz. bacon, chopped
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1 tsp. prepared mustard
1 tbsp. white vinegar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
16 oz. can of pork and beans
16 oz. can of red kidney beans
16 oz. can of navy beans
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 cup Monterey Jack Cheese, shredded
6-8 large hard rolls

Directions
Grill/fry hot dogs until thoroughly cooked. Remove, allow to cool and cut into bite-sized pieces.

While the hot dogs cook, cut the tops off the hard rolls, remove most of the soft middle — the hollowed out bread will act as a bowl, therefore it's important not to puncture the hard crust shell in any way. Rub the inside and lids with softened butter and bake at 350 degrees for approximately 10 minutes. Remove and set aside.

In a large skillet, being frying chopped bacon. Gradually add beef and onion. Once the mixture is thoroughly cooked, remove from heat, drain fat off the mixture and place in a large bowl or pot. (Ideally, this recipe is prepared in a cast iron Dutch oven just like they use to do it "out on the range." However, if your frontier cooking equipment is limited, a large baking dish will suffice!)

Mix with remaining ingredients, including the grilled hot dogs and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Ladle into bread bowls and serve.

This recipe is excellent during the colder months, but for that extra Halloween twist, try serving in small hollowed out, decorated pumpkins instead of bread bowls!

We always go out to eat Halloween night either right before or right after. No cooking! :)

We always do chili, sort of our Halloween night tradition.

But you could start a new trend - there is a family, actually an entire cul-de-sac around here that for many years has done a cookout for Halloween.

One family has a very large grill, and cooks hot dogs. One house supplies the buns, one the condiments, and one soft drinks. (There's usually someone else with a cooler with 'adult' beverages as well!)
This is what they give for Halloween.
We always try to start near there, so the kids at least have a hot dog in them before wanting all the candy. :sunny:

How about Sloppy Joe's. You can make ahead and just warm it up in the microwave.

I always make lasagna soup every Halloween. It can stay in the pot until the kids are ready to eat so it is convenient, and everybody loves it.

I will be picking up DS at daycare when I get off at 5, by the time we get home it will be about 6:30 and trick-or-treating will have already started, so my son will just be eating a happy meal in the car on the way home.

We always do "Mummy hot dogs". Probably not what you're looking for but wrap up your hotdog with the refridgerator croissant or bread stick (like pigs in a blanket) but leave about 1/2 inch of hot dog sticking out the end so it looks like a mummy. When they are done, dot the hot dog top with 2 dots of ketchup for eyes. Viola! Mummy hot dogs!

If you're looking for something else, I vote for the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Also easy!

Lasagna is another good one with garlic bread and a salad.
It maybe hard to believe, but I have never tasted a Sloppy Joe before. They used to serve it at school, but I just wouldn't eat it.

We are having chili, pigs in a blanket, maybe some cold cut sandwiches and some sort of a Halloween desert.

We used to do soup and cheese quesadillas.

Tomorrow, I'm going to try chicken wraps. I bought prepared chicken which we'll put on tortillas with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream.

It should be quick and easy and everybody can make one when they are hungry.

We don't have dessert on Halloween - for obvious reasons.
