I haven’t run across this answer since reading about LLs since it started last year. This year, my extended family and I are going for 6-days. We’re not planning on buying LL during that time. However, my mom and I are going to stay another 6-days as a “split stay”—will I be able to book for just the 2 of us during our 2nd half of the trip?

Yes and you can book for your Split-stay 7 days before your first stay. As long as your split-stay does not have any gaps before it starts following your first reservation.

The rules are you are able to book for up to 14 days of your stay. So 6+6 = 12 you are able to book for all of your second reservation seven days before you initial stay's start date. This is also why MDE shows a 21 day calendar window.

ETA: still learning to make better sentences...
