I'm going to do my shirts today, and I'm using Amy's transfers. She recommends a folded pillow case or towel on a hard surface. Is there a reason I can't just use my ironing board? :confused3

ironing boards have a few problems--
1-they usually have padded cover on them. even that slight amount of padding can make a difference.
2-they usually have small holes in the metal for air flow. you want the pressure even and the holes in your ironing board will mess it up.
i have found-->never question amy. she knows all (when it comes to transfers ;-)
good luck!

I used a pillow case, my ironing board, and a manilla folder. I removed the cushioned ironing board cover and placed the manilla folder on the ironing board to cover up the holes. I then placed the pillow case over the folder and then placed my t-shirt over the pillow case. I did not separate the t-shirt over the ironing board. I kept it together. It worked out great. As soon as I finished ironing, I removed the shirt from the ironing board and laid off to the side to cool off. I made 38 t-shirts this way. Hope this helps!

Thank you for the advice! I'll give it a try tonight after the kids go to bed and see how it goes. :goodvibes

I did mine last night using Amy's transfers. I did them on my kitchen table with a cardboard cake board inside the shirt. Worked like a charm!

Now THAT is a great idea! Cake decorating is my hobby, so I always have cardboard cake boards handy. Thank you! :goodvibes

I did it!! I ironed 22 T-shirts in about 2 hours. Amy's transfers are AWESOME!! Thank you to everyone who answered my last-minute-panic question. :goodvibes This is why I love this sub-forum. Everyone is so kind and helpful!! Next project: tie-dye Mickey shirts. :rotfl2:

Sorry I wasn't around yesterday to help with this...

Thanks to everyone who helped the original OP. I agree with her - I love how kind and helpful everyone is on our little corner of the boards!

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this board...I'm so glad I found it!! It is awesome!
I don't have enough posts to PM Amy about her transfers yet, but I was wondering where is the best place to buy t-shirts? I would love to do a few for both of my daughters. Thanks!!

Kimara - who made your adorable mouse head w/ a crown? I would love to get one for my girls? Sorry I couldn't PM you! My girls LOVE princesses! princess:

I bought all of my shirts at www.jiffyshirts.com. Their prices were some of the best on the net. They had a LOT of variety and their shipping was great - I got all of my shirts within 3 days. I used both Gilden and Anvil shirts for my transfers and they are really nice. :goodvibes Oh, and Amy's site is www.amymickey.com.

I got my t-shirts from AC Moore with they had the 5 for $10 or 4 for $10 deals. The white shirts are a little thin, but worked out OK. The colored shirts are a little thicker. Congrats on the shirts...good luck with the tie-dye!

I used a folded pillowcase on my wooden cutting board. Have to use lots of pressure and the ironing board isn't good for that. I put all my stuff on top of my dryer since there is a handy outlet and the dryer is very sturdy and it worked like a charm!!

dismommy2 - I have several versions of tiaras on plain Mickey heads in my Photobucket Mickey Head Hats folder.

Here is one!

We went to Disney last September and I made all of my shirts, around 50 of them. They turned out beautiful.... However, when we put them on we started to have some problems. Any designs that I put on the front of my shirts cracked and my daughters lanyards started rubbing theres off as the day wore on. When we returned home from our trip, we washed all of our disney shirts and they all faded and ran and were completely ruined and unwearable. I did not use Amy's iron-ons. I used cotton shirts from Academy, a local sports store, and the transfers were wiltons from micheals. I really want to do shirts for our upcoming trip this September but I am worried that they won't turn out. Any suggestions on what I did wrong....

I did my homework here on the boards and asked around before purchasing transfers, and the overwhelming consensus was that Amy's transfers are the best for both ease of use and durability. Some people said that the Avery transfers were OK, but didn't last as long (started to crack and peel after a few washings). I would also recommend that you use jiffyshirts.com where you can get the heavier cotton T-shirts for around $3 each. Good luck! :goodvibes

I have made some in the past as well and was curious what I did wrong as well. My shirts were all cracked too...I was wondering if it was the shirt or the transfer. I think I'm going to try Amy's transfers this time!!
