Asking for a friend and can't seem to find the answer easily- they will be at DHS and have ressies for 6pm HDDR show...what is their best plan of attack? I told them to stay at DHS and then bus it over to FW but want to confirm that's correct. What kind of timeline should they be looking at? Do they need to get on another bus once they get there?

Also, what if they end up going back to the resort (POR)? What is their best bet? I mean, I'd say cab at that point, but if they don't want to, what is their best strategy?

THANKS!

If they stay at DHS, I would take the bus to the CR, then boat over to HDDR. If they go back to POR, bus to MK and boat to HDDR. If you take a bus to FtW, you're going to have to transfer to an internal bus to get back to Pioneer Hall. The boat drops you just down the path from the dock.

Awesome, thanks! I assume there is a boat dock at CR?
Also, what time would you suggest they leave either location for a 6pm show?

I would leave by 4:00 pm, take the bus to Contemporary, or WL, then take the boat to Fort Wilderness. The. Boat dock is just a short walk to Pioneer Hall. You will want to be there by 5:30. Boats arrive in good time, but you need to allow for wait time. Enjoy. HDDR is a favorite of ours, along with Fort Wilderness. If you have time after the show, take the private carriage ride $$ around the fort, or look for the wagon ride. Ma good way to see why so many of us love camping at Fort Wilderness. Enjoy.

... or WL, then take the boat to Fort Wilderness...

Unless the bus to FW from WL is right there when you get off the bus at WL, then just hop on the bus to FW. It is a quick drive and you are let off near Pioneer Hall.

taxi will not help getting Hoop Dee Doo as you would still have to get an internal bus to get there as no car parking or dropping off.

I was under the impression that all buses going to FtW drop off at the one spot, then you have to take the internal bus to get to your destination. I thought the park buses went to the Outpost stop, and dropped off there, then you took the orange Settlement bus to get over to Pioneer Hall. But, I could be wrong....FtW is most certainly my weak point in the transportation area!!!!

No, there is a bus between FW and WL that drops off and picks up at Settlement, it actual could be quicker than the boat if it is timed right.

I walked from FW to WL along the lake and then realized I needed to get back quickly. Since I passed the path to the docks on my way into the lobby at WL, I knew that boat had just left so I decided to try the bus. I waited for about 5 minutes when a bus pulled up with Fort Wilderness as the destination. I hopped on and about 5 minutes later I had gotten off at FW and had walked back to my rented golf cart and started back to the cabin.

If I had waited for the boat, I would have waited at least 10 minutes before getting on the boat.

Here is a map and at the bottom right corner are some notes about the buses at FW: wdwinfo FW map.

The bus from WL to FtW is actually the FtW Yellow shuttle.

  • From WL, it goes directly to the
  • Settlement (Pioneer Hall & HDDR), then continues thru the campground via the Yellow route to the
  • Meadows (Pool, Bike Barn, Campfire Circle, Trading Post) and the
  • Outpost (parking lot, check-in, buses to parks other than MK).

Also, all internal buses from Outpost go to the Settlement, not just the Orange.

Well, knock me over with a feather! See, you learn something new everyday. With enough rime, I might be able to figure out FtW!!

Beware of bad weather. Lightening threat will shut down all water transportation between CR & FW/WL. No experience with other routes during storm approach.
