Hey guys!

As some may not know, we're leaving for our Senior Trip this upcoming Monday. We had a quick meeting and some people had a few questions I couldn't answer, but I knew where to come! Thanks for your help!!

-Where is the nearest grocery store when compared to ASMO? Where is the cheapest?
-How far is the McDonald's from ASMO? Is it walkable in the morning?
-Should I fax or call ASMO to confirm our 'reservations' in the Toy Story section and to make sure they have us for 3 adjoining rooms?
-Do you think a small cooler filled with ice would keep milk and a few drinks (replace after you open a soda) cold if refilled with ice maybe in the morning and/or night?

Thanks so much for your help guys! Please respond ASAP, as we'd like to plan as effectively as possible before we leave! Thanks again!!

-i know there is a grocery store across the street from the downtown disney resorts (hilton, royal plaza, etc) but i have never been in it.
-mcdonalds is about 3-4 min. from asmo, however i don't think security will let you walk on any of the roads in wdw.
-i would call instead of fax your requests, but don't count on them being met unless you check in early in the day. toy story tends to fill up fast, especially if you need 3 rooms.
-they have refrigerators in the rooms now, so you should be able to use those instead of a cooler. if one is not in your room call housekeeping and they will bring you one for free.
-have a great trip !! :goodvibes

Hi, sorry I can't help with questions on the ASMO toy story, but why would you want to walk to McD's, when your hotel has a food court? I've never stayed at any of the AS hotels, stayed at POP, but I dont think McD's is in walking distance of any of the hotels. As far as nearby grocery stores, if you can get to a LYNX bus stop, they stop at WalMarts. Senior trip as in HS or over 65? You could always ask the concierge in the hotel as to the closest store and also McD's......why not rent a refrig for the milk and soda's? Cost $10 a day...split 4 ways is $2.50 p/p.

Forget walking to McD's. It's pretty far but not only that, it's more expensive than any McD's here in Ohio. You can eat just as cheap (same Quality if not better) in the food court.

Maybe the walk is the point? Good for you!

They have free fridges now? That's only for a medical need, right? Otherwise the cooler idea should work. The ice is free (cokes are 2 <choke> 50).

Not sure if the fax thing works anymore. We noted what we wanted when we made the ressie and got it (just got back from POP).

Here's more on groceries: http://www.intercot.com/infocentral/grocery/grocery.asp

Enjoy!

p.s. If you don't get the ressie note in ASAP, the fax will likely be the only way to go.

Thanks guys! Any more suggestions??

P.S. It's our High School Senior Trip...Not an over 65 trip. Haha, sorry for the confusion!

Can't help ya with the grocery store question. We used wegoshop. Worked out great for us to have everything delivered to our resort room.
McDonald's is close to the All Star Resorts but, I agree with a prev. poster, I don't believe you are allowed to walk on the roads. Plus, the food court is right there and for what you will spend at McD's, you could get more food and better food.
The refrigerators are not free in the Value resorts, yet. The cooler with ice should work though. Or, rent one for $10 per day.
Can't help ya with confirming your ressies either. I would call though. I think I remember someone saying that faxing doesn't always work any for making sure you get what you want anymore.

Yep, we do it all the time when we stay at the all stars. We just drain out the water in the sink and replace it with more ice periodically. We usually eat cereal and have a cup of tea with milk in the room in the morning before we head out and this works really well for us.

Again, thanks so much for the info!

And the reason I ask about McDonald's and how far it is is because while it may be expensive compared to other McDonald's...In my experience, Disney food is even more expensive. Please let me know if this assumption is wrong, as I've never stayed at the ASMO before, nor have I eaten at the food court. I'm just going by what I remember on previous trips, when we basically ate in the parks and suffered their outragous prices. If the food court is better value for the money, please, let me know! Thanks a bunch, guys!!

Well, congratulations on becoming a Senior! Best of Luck in the future! DD did a graduation trip in 2000 ....5 friends flew down and stayed at Ft. Wilderness Cabins....had a great time....the Cabins have a full kitchen, so they didn't have to worry about the cooler and ice! Being under age to rent a car does throw some pins in plans, but they managed....the six of them pooled money, got a cab(two of them went shopping with an agreed upon food list)...and the rest is history...DD did an internship in WDW in 2002.....graduated from SUNY Fredonia as a certified Elem Ed Teacher in 2005...moved to FL in July of 2005...and is still working and having a magical life in WDW!!!!

Have a great time on your trip!

Ahh... So you aren't walkingto McDs for the exersise? :rotfl2:

I believe the pancake and french toast platters are $5.99 ish at the food court.

You can get a refillable mug at the food court for $11.99 (good for the length of your stay). It's something like $2 a shot otherwise.

Most Disney meals are plentiful - you can split to save money or bring breakfast foods. If you try to walk to McDs you're going to lose a LOT of time. Is losing an hour of park time worth saving a dollar or two?

Thanks for the help everyone! I guess as one person pointed out, we would lose time if some walked to McDonald's. But what if I'm an early riser? This trip isn't going to be gung-ho, some people will be getting up later than others. We have 3 cars, plus the onsite transportation for the sleepy heads. As you guys probably know, money is hard for a Senior to scrap up, so saving a dollar or two isn't that bad of an idea. I looked at the menu for the breakfast at the food court, and it seems that filling items would cost around 6 dollars. While not horrible, does anyone know what McDonald's charges for say, 2 McGriddles? I can always come back to the hotel and fill up on juice with the mug, so two sandwiches at McDonald's would be fine for me. Anyone have a guess on the price? Thanks again, guys!!

Oh, and would a kids meal suffice, say, my girlfriend. She's not a huge eater and I'm just curious if "scrambled eggs, biscuit, potatoes or bacon" will fill her up. What about me? Haha, like I said, we're all about saving money! Again, thanks for the help!!

RedSox -- respectfully, I think you'll have a better time if you can relax a little on this one. If you bring back a family some day, you'll be amazed (or shocked) at how much more you'll be spending.

If you like, buy some (or a lot of) bread and take it down to the food court. POP had something that looked very much like a toaster last week and I imagine AS would have the same.

Also, one or more in your party can be the designated backback carrier. Add a little bit of bagged ice. Unless something has changed in the last few years, the bag inspector won't mind what looks to be snack items (sandwiches, fruit, etc.). If it helps, put the bag in a locker (out of the sun) and return later.

From another board, the rules are:

~No Glass
~No Alchohol
~No metal silverware (plastic is OK)
~No coolers larger than back-pack size or rolling coolers

Enjoy.

I believe I'm undertaking this trip while staying relaxed. School's out, everyone's going off to colleges, it's one of the last times we'll all be together, so it's not all about the rides and stuff like that. It's just as you guys know, money is an issue with people are age, or any age for that matter, and I was just wondering how to save a few bucks. I appreciate all the advice, though! I am getting extremely excited about the trip! Thanks for the help, guys!!

If you're intent on going to McDs, go one day. Then don't go the next. See how much more time you have and how less crazed it will seem. And with the cost of gas these days, won't the small savings be eaten up by the use of gas?

While WDW is great, it is spread out and it's not all that easy to get from one place to another, especially if you're not used to it. I guess I just don't see the advantage of making sure breakfast come from McDs. And believe me, I am the queen of traveling on a budget - people don't always believe me when I tell them about the bargains I found. I understand where you're coming from, but I just think you'll be super stressed if you try this.

To save cash, we bring snacks with us - granola bars, fruit snacks, etc - so we don't pay a lot and can suffice on split CS meals.

Yes, find another way to save $1. You'll be wasting gas and/or time, and it just isn't worth it when there are more fun things to do.

I guess I see what you guys are saying. It looks like it may not be worth it to eat breakfast at McDonald's. Thanks for the help guys! Anyone have any other info about little things to do in or around the ASMO?
