Boyfriend is considering getting a FairFX card for our trip in May. If he does, will I be able to top it up online from my own bank account? Or will the bank account he's topping up from have to match his details??

Sorry if this seems like being nosy, but why don't you get a card each? At least you can top up one of them from your own account if you need to.

If you live at the same address it's not a problem. I used DFi bank card to top my fairfx card up last year with no problems it just said the address had to match

I already have a Nationwide Flex Account (best debit card to use abroad according to MSE) so I'm sorted, it's just him that isn't. Automatically we would get him a Flex Account as well but unfortunately Nationwide have put new stipulations in place so it isn't as "easy" to get one as it once was.

I got a fairfx card last yr along with loads of others on the dis!glad i did, no more using travellers cheques and its was accepted everywhere!!

Ok, looks like he's going to go for the FairFX afterall, as the Nationwide is a no-go :(

Can anyone tell me what happens with any remaining balance on our return?! Will he be able to transfer the remaining money back into his bank account or will it have to be left lying on the card?

I know obviously on the last day he could obviously withdraw anything that's on the account.

Oops never mind, found it on their FAQ's :thumbsup2

AAARRRGGGGHHH!

Sorry to post again but I need some help! Signing boyfriend up for a FairFX card and I'm typing in the postcode and then using "Find Address" so it's inputting the address itself via the postcode, which is fine. HOWEVER, it's saying "Sub-building/Flat" is invalid even though it was their automatic entry system that entered it :confused3 Boyfriend lives in a flat and I've tried editting it so it'll be accepted but it keeps saying Invalid! If I don't put the flat number in it won't go to the right address!!

Fairfx are really helpful.

I transferred some money over on a weekend and didn't get an email notification and a few hours later the money wasn't on the card. I panicked and contacted them. Within half an hour they came back to me and explained what had happened (no problem - I had transferred two amounts close together) and they were great.

We had quite a lot of money left on the cards towards the end of the trip. We decided to draw it off as we are going back this October and didn't want to leave $1600 on the cards. You can transfer money back to your account but there is a charge, £10 I think. We still have around $200 on each card.

We didn't do this as if it is in an account it is too tempting to spend! This way we get cash to take back in October and can transfer money across to the cards to use closer to the time we go.

It was the first time we had used pre-paid currency cards and it was brilliant. We kept a copy of each receipt when we used them and kept a note of the balance until we had got internet access. We didn't have any problems using the card or drawing money off it and wouldn't go back to CC again.

Another big fan of the FAIRFx card - thanks to the DIS.

We used it on our trip to WDW in 2008 and Washington in 2009. We forgot all about checking how much was left on teh card and were really pleased to discover that we had around £400 left on it - bargain!!! Cash we didnt know about!!

Sorry to drag this up....AGAIN! But I have another question!

Signed boyfriend up last night but he's one of the lucky one's who has to do an identity check (as always!). We've emailed them like they said but so far no reply yet and his account says nothing about his card application :confused3 Can anyone tell me what to expect from the identity check?
