Hi everyone,

Here's our strategy:

Breakfasts in cabins
Lunch at parks
back to cabin for chillin out and early dinner
Back to parks to catch some night activities.

What has everyone done for quick easy dinner meals? Here are some of my ideas:

Spagetti, garlic bread, salad
Hamburgers, tatertots
Breakfast for dinner: pancakes, eggs and bacon

Any other quick and easy meals?

Thanks,
jill

iI'm looking forward to hearing some ideas on this too.

If you're driving, I'd do a crockpot dish. Like roast or use it to heat up brisket you've cooked ahead of time and frozen.

If you're flying and buying groceries there - hmm. . . pick up some charcoal and cook some burgers??

Seriously - I'm needing ideas too!:surfweb:

since we live in florida we go down often. Now first things first as much as you think you will be eating in so much, i highly dout it. you start out inteding to eat at the site but then it just becumes to much, or something happens and you eat out. we usually eat:

hamburgers
sloppy joes
spagetti
pancakes
cinimon rolls-usually for last morning b/c so easy to clean up
honey cooked ham-good for sandwiches
biscuts^^ ham to put on
bacon

but like i said you end up eating out alot, and alot of these can be put away and re-heated again in a mintue for a quick lunch or dinner, you dont even have to cook again

:woohoo:

Yeah I'm not all about fixing a meal after being in the parks all day, but I will do something like chilli and crackers, vegetable soup, sandwiches, hot dogs something where I'm not spending time cooking. Does the cabins have a crock-pot with crock pot liners, that will save clean up, it will be well worth it to pop some chilli on warm all day and come back to that?

We like to eat finger food....like vegy's and dip, crackers, cheese, lunch meat, hummus, spinach dip and stuff like that. We just pull it out of the frig and start eating. Also we buy prepackaged potato salad and mac salad. We buy some good deli treats that I wouldn't ordinarily buy. You could get some precooked Florida shrimp and cocktail sauce. And when time permits....we really love to cook on the grill. But it takes awhile to get the grill going.

My wife firmly believes that she's on vacation...no cooking at Disney!

We usually take a lot of "grab and go" breakfast items..granola bars, poptarts, etc so we can hit the parks early

Come back to FW for lunch (Sandwiches, chips) and a dip in the pool or a nap (my preferred break!)

Then a nice meal at one of the parks for supper!

We try to take a good selection of fruit for snacking, but it seems the chips always go first...hmmmm

I too am a no cooking at Disney person! However, my DH doesn't mind, and isn't into swimming, so he gets things started while I take the kiddos for a swim.

I just thought of Tacos.
and Brats

Keep em coming!

Oh ya, we are flying so no crockpot...

How are you going to get the groceries unless you have a vehicle. FW has a fairly limited selection to fix meals like you have mentioned so far.

In general what you are doing is what we often do except sometimes we have a later breakfast come back early for a noon snack and then an early dinner and when back at the parks or when we get back to the trailer another late snack.

Don't forget you can get the giddyup and go when coming back a little early and have not only dinner, but leftovers for lunch/snacks.

Go to Winn Dixie when you are there to get a few groceries and get some deli pizzas or make a french bread pizza: I have two adults and 3 growing teens (eat like horses) and we use:

2 loves of french bread from the deli
2 jars of pizza quick sauce (on the grocery aisle near the spaghetti sauce)
1 bag of turkey (lo-fat) pepperoni (on the grocery aisle where the lunch meat is)
3 cup bag of mozerella cheese shredded

may need to buy two disposable cooking sheets if the cabin doesn't have 2 cookie sheets.

Slice the bread lengthwise (it may be too long to fit both halves on the pan with out cutting them again to get them to fit).

Smear sauce (use all you want), put on the pepperoni (use all you want), top with the shredded cheese (use it all) bake in a 450 degree oven for 10-12 minutes. Minimal cleanup, hot and filling, oh so good! :worship:

Yes, we are renting a car. I think that we may use Garden Grocer though. Hate the thought of grocery shopping on vacation.

Like the French Bread pizza idea! Yummy.

We did breakfast in the cabin, lunch wherever we happened to be and dinner in the cabin.

But, we generally did not cook every day. The day after we arrived we barbecued all the chicken and meat we purchased, along with 2 nice steaks for that evening.

I ordered a bunch of frozen veggies as well as potato and macaroni salads and all we had to do was heat stuff up.

We also had ordered a bunch of fresh fruit and cut that up and put it in ziploc bags.

That was the plan from the beginning so I made sure to pack a small carton with extra plastic storage containers to hold all the cooked food. I also brought some really cheap grilling tools, condiments, and marinades in small containers.

It took a while to get together the list so we had complete meals but the thoroughness paid off. We had everything we needed and then some.

We used garden grocer but I wasn't all that thrilled with their selection, prices, and service.

I'm now working on the list and will be using wegoshop. Luckily, I saved my entire GG order as a favorite and I will simply edit it for the next order.

FWIW - we originally planned to have dinner out instead of lunch and then realized we were far better off having dinner in the cabin rather than going out to forage for food and wasting park time. Now we can have an early dinner, take a ride in the cart, and still have plenty of evening park time. An added bonus is that most of our favorite restaurants are virtually empty for lunch.

This is precisely why we used garden grocer. I didn't want to waste a few hours going shopping in an unfamiliar store. As well, I was concerned about buying too much food and of missing some items that were necessary.

I made my list and my husband and I went over it several times before finalizing and placing the order.

A word of warning with GG - they want you to reserve your place with an order ASAP but if you have to change it, they do not have an online system to accommodate those changes. You have to either call or email them in. I had adds and subtracts and never really found out what the net result of the changes were. They also purchased a few incorrect items.

An upside - they delivered before we even arrived and we found everything put away in our cabin. The downside to that is we had to check our order by taking everything out again.

As I said in my post above - we're going with wegoshop this time. Our time slot is already reserved (for March) without having to place an order this far in advance. We have to get it in 7 days before arrival, but I'll do it before then.

We did quite a few breakfasts/lunches at the camper this year. Breakfast stuff was usually egg sandwiches, bagels, that kind of thing. Lunches were mostly stuff we could grill...

Burgers
Sausages/Brats
Steak
Marinated chicken breast
Sandwiches
Grilled Cheese
Quick Pizzas
Pasta (cook extra and make pasta salad with the leftovers)
Salad

For snacks we had lots of dippy things, chips, pita bread, etc.. cheese and pepperoni, trail mix, microwave popcorn

We also did take out from Trails End a couple of times. Pizza was decent, chicken wings were good, nachos were ok.

Have a great trip! :stir:

We always do something similar, but substitute English Muffins for the french bread and use italian sausage.

Dang! THAT's where all those tantalizing smells were coming from! My invite must have blown off the door?

We live out of state and store our motor coach near WDW. When we get to Orlando, we go pick up the motor coach, stop at Walmart for groceries, then head to Ft. Wilderness. We usually buy more than we eat, but we offer UNOPENED food items to our neighbors around us at Ft. Wilderness. Families with children love to get additional milk for their cereal. Milk, amongst many items at Ft. Wilderness store is pricey. Remaining beer is quite popular as a give away item at the end of our stay too! As a side note, Walmart has pre-packaged pancakes in the frozen breakfast food area. Each package contains three pancakes. They are quite good and are done in about one minute in the microwave. They cost about $2.39 for a package of 24, individually wrapped in groups of three. I have been known to heat them up in the microwave, spread some apple butter on them making a very large three tier sandwich, grab my water and walk to the boat launch, on my way to the Magic Kingdom, eating my pancakes. We also hit the Dollar Store for snack items for the park. Granola, breakfast bars, Hot Tamales, etc. We buy what won't melt, while we are enjoying the parks.

Sorry to all the foodies....I eat to live, not live to eat!

Just thought I'd share a few things that we do for camping that could easily be tailored for the cabins, maybe you could get an idea or two from the list! :wave2:

Before we leave home I cook: (Maybe you could do this your first day in the cabin so you would only have to really cook the first day)

1) Scramble several pounds of ground beef, drain, cool, separate into ziplock bags, flatten, freeze. I use these packs later to make quick spaghetti sauce, taco meat, hamburger helper, beef and rice a roni, etc...

2) Boil, cool, and shred a chicken or two, divide into freezer bags. I use this for chicken and rice, chicken and dumplings, chicken and noodles etc

3) A big pot of rice, a pot of spaghetti, a pot of egg noodles, and a pot of green beans. Cool and separate into freezer bags-freeze

That way most everything is pre-cooked and all I have to do is thaw and put together and open a few cans of other side items!

The kids like walking tacos the best (single serve bag of fritos, put a scoop of taco meat, cheese, sour cream, etc into bag, roll top over, shake well, open and eat right out of the bag).

We also do the typical grill stuff and foil packet meals, here are a few recipes- http://peaceandcarrots.homestead.com/FoilPacketMeals.html
Good luck and have a great time!
